10001 February 4, 2012 Richard "Dick," born January 25, 1921, in Oswego, NY, passed peacefully at his home in Sandy Pond on Saturday, February 4, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Richard's parents came from Germany. He grew up in Oswego, NY, where he graduated from Oswego College of Industrial Arts and purchased Bower Printing Company, which he ran until 1977. Richard was a veteran of WWII, where he served as a mechanic while stationed in the Philippines. He continued to use his strong hands-on skills throughout his professional and personal life. Richard was an avid fisherman and hunter. Those who knew him were familiar with his passion for collecting "antiquities!" Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma; children Richard Jr. (Nancy), Donna (Jim) Lo Dolce, Susan Mooney (fiance Tom), Thomas (companion Jackie) and David (Kathy); sister, Louise Stafford; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Richard was predeceased by his parents, Regina and Leopold; siblings Edward, Frieda Winchell, Walter and Grace Rubley. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a short service, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Summerville Funeral Home, 1997 Harwood Drive, Sandy Creek, followed by a gathering and buffet at the Lacona VFW, Salisbury St. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Friends of Oswego County Hospice, 70 Bunner Street, Oswego, NY 13126-3309.

10002 February 7, 1912 ~ George William White, age 78 years, 9 months, 4 days, Single, Retired contractor, born in New York, Son of Calvin White born in New York, and Sophia Stowell born in Connecticut, Died in Richland Township of general arteriosclerosis, myocarditis.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, February 14, 1912 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - George W. White - The death of George W. White occurred Wednesday night at the residence of his nephew, George White, on the old White farm in Meacham district. He was born in Millard, Otsego County, May 3, 1833. He has made Pulaski his headquarters for many years and in 18_6 started the work of construction on the village waterworks system, one of the best in the state. More than half a century ago Mr. White was prominently identified with the work in construction with the building of then addition to the Pulaski Court House and of the entire force of mechanics employed there during that period was the last survivor. About ten years ago he constructed the dam and _ in Salmon River at this point. Mr. White never married. He was known all over the state as a contractor. The funeral was held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, February 13, 1907 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - W. P. Dillenbeck - William P. Dillenbeck, of Mexico, who was spending a little time in the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. J. Smith, suffered a stroke of paralysis, last Thursday, soon after 12 o'clock. Mr. Dillenbeck had eaten his dinner and gone to the barn, when Mrs. Smith heard him call and I'm going to him found him in a serious condition. Assistance being procured, he was removed to the house when he lapsed into unconsciousness and died Friday morning. Mr. Dillenbeck had been in poor health for a number of months, but was about as usual up to the time he was stricken. He was about 63 years old and is survived by a son, Willard P. Dillenbeck, of Syracuse, and a daughter, Mrs. Frederick J. Smith, of Pulaski, also three brothers, Henry L. Dillenbeck and Jacob J. Dillenbeck, of Pulaski and Charles Dillenbeck, of Antwerp, and three sisters, Mrs. _ Scott, of Pulaski, Mrs. Thomas F. Hall and Mrs. Homer Petrie, of Los Angeles, California. The funeral was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Smith Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, Rev. Frederick Maunder officiating. Burial was made at Mexico.

Fern L. Smith, 87, Springbrook Apartments, died Wednesday at Oswego Hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Daysville Cemetery, Richland.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Surviving are four sons, Irving, Mexico, Paul and Lynn, both of Pulaski, and Douglass, Denver, Colo.; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Cora Maitland, Richland, and Freida Akins, Rose.

A daughter, Lillian, and a son, Lucien, died before her.

Born June 6, 1904, in Albion, daughter of George G. and Elnora Richardson Mason, she was a graduate of Dugway School. She resided most of her life in Pulaski.

She married Chauncey J. Smith Dec. 30, 1922. The couple were the owners and operators of the Smith Bait Shop, Port Ontario. Mr. Smith died Sept. 1, 1990.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Pulaski Wesleyan Church.

Marguerite H. Denny, 78, of 511 Albany Ave., retired attendant at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center, died early Sunday in A. Barton Hepburn Hospital.

A funeral Mass will be said at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Philip T. Allen, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the McLellan Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph L.; a son, Joseph P., Atlanta, Ga., former mayor of Ogdensburg; a daughter, Martha E. Kirby, Apalachian; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Louis (Mary) Marse, Ogdensburg, and several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Mildred Thompson and Maude Wright, and a brother, Walter Hynes, died before her.

Born in Ogdensburg on Jan. 3, 1911, a daughter of Richard and Mary Gonyea Hynes, she was educated in the local schools.

She married Joseph L. Denny June 20, 1938, at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Edward Burns officiating.

Mrs. Denny was employed as an attendant at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center for many years, retiring in 1974.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Cathedral.

She is survived by a son, Paul Squires, Fulton; two daughters, Norma Coffin, Lacona, and Jolene LaCelle, Pulaski; a stepson, William F. Coffin, Tully; two stepdaughters, Gladys Figary, Fulton, and Eva Cooley, Manlius; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Born Oct. 8, 1907, in the town of Orwell, daughter of Abner and Mary Hanley Squires, she attended Sandy Creek district schools and was a lifetime resident of the Orwell-Sandy Creek area.

She married Ernest L. Coffin May 24, 1958. She had been married previously. Mr. Coffin died April 2, 1979.

Mrs. Coffin was last employed by the Oswego County Sanitarium, Orwell, for several years until it closed. She also had worked at the Ideal Rest Home, Orwell, and the Thomas House, Sandy Creek.

Surviving are three sons, LeRoy R. and Lawrence, both of Richland, and Leon H., Watertown; seven daughters, Beatrice Balcom, Rodman, Bonnie Graham, Orwell, Maureen Lance and Phyllis Pitcher, both of Richland, Betty Castor, Adams, Wilma Dingman, Belleville, Texas, and Viola Martin, Adams Center; 85 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; and three brothers, Eddie Berry, Rodman, Walter Berry, Woodville, and Cecil Berry, Pulaski.

Born in Rodman Jan. 14, 1914, the daughter of Dee and Nellie Putman Berry, she attended Rodman schools and had lived in Ellisburg most of her life before moving to Richland 10 years ago.

She married Cornelius W. Dingman Sept. 18, 1933. He died June 9, 1967.

Mary Louise Jordal, 61, Penney Road, town of Henderson, formerly of Watertown, was dead on arrival early Tuesday at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown.

She was stricken ill at home and was driven by her husband, Herman C. Jordal, to the hospital, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Upon arrival, hospital personnel found her dead in the car, and were unable to revive her, detectives said.

Although death was believed caused by a heart attack, an autopsy was to be conducted today.

A graveside service will be held in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood, in the spring.

There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski.

Surviving are her husband, Herman Calvin Jordal; two sons, Robert and Ronald Jacobs, both of Cape Vincent; two daughters, Joanne Cirigliano, Phoenix, Ariz., and Katherine Martin, Cape Vincent, and four sisters, Katherine Bourcy and Patricia Marra, both of Watertown, Vivian Boulton, Dexter, and Jane Crossley, Scotia.

She was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Watertown, a daughter of Ira and Katherine Devine Peters. She graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy, Watertown, in 1949.

Mrs. Jordal lived in Watertown most of her life, moving to Henderson in 1981.

She married Herman Calvin Jordal Aug. 16, 1978.

She had been previously married.

(Vreeland) Janas, 67, of Stone School Road, Fleming passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon March 15, 2017 at the Westchester Medical Center, awaiting a heart transplant, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Auburn on April 10, 1949, the daughter of the late Floyd and Elizabeth Shortsleeve Vreeland and had been a life resident. She was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Margaret was extremely devoted to her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She always had delicious cookies on the counter, dinner in the oven and sauce on the stove. Margaret loved to sew, craft, quilt, paint and draw. She previously worked at Auburn Wire, Hillcrest Dairy, Juno Glass, Janas Trenching, Janas Farms, and was most proud of being employed as a skilled seamstress at MacKenzie Childs in Aurora. Margaret was a proud member of DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and LICA (Land Improvement Contractors of America), where she had the distinct honor of being selected as the LICA wife of the year, a former Brownie leader and was very passionate about researching her genealogy. Margaret enjoyed many things, but her 'true" love was her family. She will be sadly missed but will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved. She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Michael Janas of Fleming; five children: daughters Robin (Frank) McKay, Jennifer Janas and Sarah (Jason) Leszczynski; twin sons Benjamin (Sara) Janas and Frank (Jacqueline) Janas; and grandchildren Peter, Natalie, Nathan, Sarah Grace, Joshua, Emily, Jack, Mariska, Anna, Grace, Jarek and Elias. 10050 FLEMING - Michael Joseph “Fred” Janas Jr., 44, of Fleming, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 30, 2015. He was born in Auburn on Feb. 19, 1971, the son of Michael Sr. and Margaret Vreeland Janas, and had been an area life resident. “Fred,” as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was a Union Springs High School graduate, class of 1989. He soon entered the Army and was in the National Guard for several years, serving our country proudly. Michael currently owned and operated, Digger Enterprises, LLC in Fleming. He was a very gifted and skilled equipment operator. Besides working most of the time, which he loved to do, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mike’s most cherished and special times were those spent with his beloved daughters and the rest of his family. His life was all too brief, but captured the hearts of many in the time he was able to share with them. He leaves behind a legacy that will never be duplicated again!! His beautiful, blue eyes and infectious smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by two loving daughters, Natalie and Grace Janas; parents, Michael Sr. and Margaret Janas; sisters, Robin (Frank) McKay, Jennifer Janas, and Sarah (Jason) Leszczynski; brothers, Benjamin and Frank Janas; nieces and nephews, Nathan, Sarah, Joshua, Emily, and Anna McKay, Peter Kowaney, Jack Scharick, Mariska and Jarek Leszczynski; grandmother, Teresa Janas; great-aunt, Lorna McLean; as well as several other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and close feline companion, “Cassie.” Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at 10 a.m. this Saturday in St. Mary’s Church for Michael’s Mass of Christian burial with the Rev.
