John ran a store for a time in Littlejohn settlement for land speculator Dewitt Littlejohn. Oswego native Littlejohn was a board member of the Ontario & Western Railroad and served as New York State Assemblyman. When Littlejohn's finances turned sour so did the affairs of the Brown family. Erskine Dead At Pulaski ¬Veteran Railroad Man, 90, Had Been In Failing Health Since Spring - Pulaski, August 25 - John C. Erskine, 90, veteran railroad man, and one of the oldest residents of Pulaski, died Thursday evening at his home in North street. Mr. Erskine had been in failing health since last spring, but had only been confined to his bed for about a month. He was born in Holmesville, now Fernwood, April 18, 1849, having celebrated his 90th birthday last spring. He was the son of John and Clara Simmonds Erskine, who were among original settlers of the Fernwood section. He spent his early years on the farm, helping his father clear the timber from the place. W. & O. railroad and was in railroad employ for more than 50 years, retiring about 20 years ago. He was a construction foreman on bridge work in the old days when stone foundations were the style, and he was in charge of the stone work on many of the bridges in northern New York. Since his retirement he had lived at home except for several visits a week to the old home at Fernwood which he helped his sisters maintain. He preserved his faculties wonderfully for a man of his age. He was an attendant of the Methodist church and was an honorary member of the R. W. & O. Pioneers. | 12156 | John C. Jones Obituary John Constantine Jones, 88, resident of Pulaski, passed away with his family by his side on May 24, 2024. John enjoyed a 35-year career at Pulaski High School as a P.E. teacher, varsity baseball coach, and athletic director. E. church where brief funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. O. Barnes and the Masonic burial service was recited by the master and officers of the Lodge. Besides Mrs. Alsever and Mrs. Morris there is one surviving sister, Mrs. Ida Salisbury Craig. of Chicago. Three brothers survive, Smith E. Salisbury and Frank L. Salisbury, of Chicago and William E. Salisbury. of Toledo. The following is from the Syracuse Journal, Monday evening: "What appears to have been a strange case of telepathy in the lives of twins ended with the death of John E. Salisbury, in Chicago on Saturday. In early life he sustained a serious injury, which in years after caused him considerable suffering and finally resulted in his death. His trouble was not constant, but periodical, and strangely enough, his twin sister, Mrs. Nelson Alsever of this city, always suffered in sympathy with him. When he was 10 years old the boy injured one of his knees, from the effects of which it was supposed for years that he had fully recovered, but later he was attacked by acute pains, which it was believed, were the result of the injury in early life. After several of these periodical attacks it was remarked that the twin sister suffered at the same time. On Saturday Mrs. Alsever was depressed in spirits and she felt that her brother must be likewise suffering. Her condition grew gradually worse in the afternoon and about 4 o'clock she received a telegram from Chicago announcing the death of John." | Salisbury, John Edwin (I68299)
