1254 Amelia Abigail Stowell Davis - November 19, 1830 - February 28, 1905. Daughter of Elon and Abigail Anderson Stowell. Wife of James Freeman Davis.
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, March 15, 1905 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Amelia A. Stowell Davis - Mrs. Amelia A. Stowell Davis was born into this life November 19, 1830, in Orwell, New York, and entered into the life eternal on February 28, 1905, in the 75th year of her age. She was the daughter of Elon and Abigail Anderson Stowell who moved to Orwell from Wilmington, Connecticut, early in their married life. In 1850 she was married to the late Dr. James F. Davis of Orwell. She is survived by four children, Dr. Clayton H. Davis, of Pulaski; Miss Ellen A. Davis, of New York City; Dr. Lavinia R. Davis, of Oneida, New York, and Freelon J. Davis, of Pulaski. In the earlier period of her marriage she resided for several years at Pulaski and Mexico, but the greater part of her life was spent in Orwell. The family lived until 1879 upon the homestead where she was born, and thereafter, upon the farm owned by her, just south of the village of Orwell. Part of 1885 she spent in Oberlin, Ohio, where her children were students in college, and while there she became a member of the First Congregational Church of Oberlin and maintained her connection with that church during her life. She served the Orwell Sunday school as superintendent most efficiently for some two years in the seventies. During the last seventeen years she has been an enthusiastic member of the W.C.T.U., rarely able to attend the meetings, but always mindful of its financial claims. In 1892 she was a delegate to their state convention at Newburgh and in 1888 and 1891 a visitor at New York and Boston. The best blood of New England was hers by direct descent on both sides from a long line of Puritan ancestors who gave their country and communities stanch and patriotic service in peace and in war. Her family record goes back to Sir James Whiton, who followed the standards of Cromwell to victory, but emigrated to this country after the Restoration in 1660. Her great-grandfather and grandfather, George and Thomas Anderson and her grandfather Samuel Stowell, fought bravely through the war of the revolution. Her father, Elon Stowell, was a man of much reading, of genial spirit and most upright life, a pillar in the Congregational church of his town. And thus, to this true daughter of New England came a goodly inheritance of its spirit, its sturdy intellectual and moral fiber and strength of character, akin to its own rock-ribbed _. Here, too, was the characteristic New England reserve, so far as the world at large was concerned. To those only who knew her best was it given to fully appreciate her strong and unique personality and her exceptional endowments of mind and heart. She possessed a mind richly stored with the treasures of literature, including a familiarity with the Bible rare in these days, a brain keen and logical and a marked gift of literary expression, apt and vivid through speech and pen, which often made her conversation and letters memorable. Hers was a many sided nature with a broad outlook upon life, a spirit hospitable to all fresh thought and in sympathetic touch to her latest years, with all great world movements, especially in the realm of philanthropic activity. Her heart was wholly in the temperance reform and in everything related to the advancement of women. With a keen sense of justice, deeply rooted in her soul and an answering rectitude of purpose, her innate perceptions of right and wrong were never confused by sophistries and no fellowship with _ or hypocrisy was possible to her. Converted in the early years and of a deeply religious nature, her religion expressed itself by deeds rather than by “much speaking,” deeds announced by no blaze of trumpets, but “falling noiseless as the snow,” unknown save to those whom they benefited. Through many toilsome burdened years, crowded with household cares beyond her strength, she wrought unremittingly for the comfort of her family and education and training of her children, to whom she was ever comrade and counsellor. In steadfast loyalty to her highest ideals, she sacredly fulfilled every obligation which life laid upon her in fullest measure and her own life was fragrant with the perfume of unselfish service, which gave and "asked not again.” The memory of her laborious, _, self-sacrificing life, her spiritual influence and example will remain her children’s most precious heritage.

Obituary of Samuel Mattison

Samuel Arthur Mattison, of Altmar, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, July 11, 2021, surrounded by his loving children and wife, due to a short but valiant battle with liver disease. Samuel, known to many as “Arthur”, and to others as “Red”, “Sam”, “Uncle Sam”, and even “Uncle Bucky”, was born on October 1, 1941, son of Samuel O. and Irma J. Mattison (nee Pratt), in the Town of Pulaski. After graduating Altmar Parish Williamstown High School in 1960, Arthur earned his Associates Degree in Dairy Science from Morrisville ATC in 1962.

Upon graduation from Morrisville, Arthur worked at Sealtest Ice Cream for two years before rejoining his father on the family dairy farm that he eventually purchased and expanded as Mattland Farm. Arthur was passionate about working the land and caring for his cattle and loved the Farm where he was raised and where he, in turn, raised his children.

At Morrisville ATC, Samuel Arthur met Susan Roesch and they wed in 1963. Art and Sue raised five children and opened their hearts and the Farm to countless other relatives and friends throughout his life.

In 2001, Arthur sold his herd, but, with his eldest son and business partner, Mark, continued to board cattle for 14 more months. In 2008 he sold Mattland Farm to Mark and his wife Angela. Upon selling the farm, Art stayed occupied for a few years by delivering mail for the US Postal Service and then driving bus for Oswego County BOCES. After working for over 48 years, Arthur fully retired in 2010, and further pursued his passions of playing golf, assembling and operating his model trains, woodworking, and watching and cheering for his grandchildren in their athletic and performing arts ventures.

Arthur was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Pulaski, NY; was instrumental in initiating and growing the Salmon River Ice Hockey Association, where he volunteered as a coach and member of the Board of Directors for many years; and served on the Planning Board for the Town of Albion. Arthur’s passion for golf led to his playing in leagues at The Pines Golf Club, and more recently, at Streamside Golf Course. In 2018, Arthur, together with Bob Oakes, won The Pines Golf Club Thursday Night League, and in 2020 Art won the Wednesday Morning League at Streamside, playing with partner John McConville.

Arthur is survived by his bride of 57 years, Susan; daughters Michele Madden (Edward) of Altmar, Melinda Harvey (Andrew) of Amherst, NY, and Marylynn Collins (Alan) of Chadwicks, NY; sons Mark C. (Angela) of Altmar, and Matthew O. (Kelly) of Elma, NY; grandchildren Emily, Allie, Andrew, Abagail, Lillian, Mattison, Hannah, Mikayla, Charlotte, Margaret, and Arthur. He is also survived by his sister, Jean M. Densmore of Orwell, and brother, George P. Mattison of Newnan, Georgia. He is predeceased by his sister, Mary Washburn (2019).

Arthur’s family invites you to call on them, Monday, July 19, from 4pm to 6pm at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski and to a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, July 20, 11am at St. James Episcopal Church, 24 Lake Street, Pulaski.

Donations in Arthur’s memory will be graciously accepted by the APW Alumni Scholarship Fund, c/o APW Alumni 33 Easy Street, Parish, NY, 13131 as well as St. James Episcopal Church.

1278 Andrew J. (Andy) Renwick
Published Jul 31, 2018 at 4:00pm

Andrew J. ‘Andy’ Renwick was born on April 18, 1989 the son of Joseph and Karen (Ammann) Renwick at Rome Memorial Hospital. Andrew attended Ridge Mills Elementary School from K-6th grade under the loving guidance of Mrs. Paula Gratch-Gilroy who taught him both to strive to achieve his personal best, while embracing and celebrating his individuality. He also formed two special friendships with Dustin Colgan and Jason Nowicki who both encouraged Andrew to try new experiences and were there for him while he did so.

Andrew graduated from Camden Central High School Class of 2007. He was fortunate to have a core group of friends who both watched out for and encouraged his ever increasing independence. He and his family were especially proud of the awards he earned on class night for overcoming obstacles and for his academic achievements. While in High School, Andy was a member of the Camden Wesleyan Church Youth Group, where he enjoyed volunteering to help others while enjoying the fellowship of his peers and his youth group leader, Mr. Robert Mastin.

Andrew was employed seasonally for the last nine years with Puma Accounting. He enjoyed the various office duties he completed and the friendships made while working. As a youth, Andrew’s hobbies included making maple syrup and raising sheep with his dad and growing pumpkins and gourds to sell at his roadside stand. Andrew was an avid fan of NASCAR, following Jeff Gordon from 2000-2016, and most currently, Chase Elliot. He had been to many different racetracks, but his standout favorites were Charlotte Motor Speedway and “The Monster Mile” in Dover. He visited the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the garages of many racing teams. He was a fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed going to Yankee Stadium, as well as attending SU basketball games at the Carrier Dome, especially SU vs. Duke.

Andrew was a greeter/usher at the United Church of Camden Presbyterian Church until its closure and then attended worship at the Camden Wesleyan Church. He was also a member of the ARC social group. Andy was a participant for the Camden Relay for Life for twelve years and was a Salvation Army kettle bell ringer. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and going for walks throughout the community. Andrew was “a big guy with a big heart” with a penchant for treating others. He was a true loyal friend to many and lived by his mantra “smile-life’s too short.” Andy had an amazing recall and enjoyed posting “little known facts” for all to enjoy on Facebook. He was looking forward to his upcoming trip to Disney World in November and everything Christmas.

Andrew is survived by his parents and his canine companion Kosmo T. Kramer, half-brothers, Paul Renwick and John Renwick of Grand Junction, CO, uncles and aunts, Michael and Susan Ammann of Mt. Airy, NC, Mark and Katherine Ammann of Sylvan Beach, Diane Ammann of Camden, Matthew Ammann of Marcellus and Stephanie Pierce of Pulaski, cousins, Michael Scott, Makenzie Ammann, Diana and Dillon Holstein, Megan and John Shetler, Sarah and Scott Ammann, Katie and Zach Ammann, Patty and Jay Degraw, Debra and Frank Burm, and Harvey and Robin Wagonmaker. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Thelma Ammann, paternal grandparents, Clifford and Lucy Renwick, uncles, Scott A. Ammann and Walter C. ‘Chuck’ Ammann.

One of his adult life goals was to be an organ donor. He not only was able to achieve this, but to influence several others to become donors as well. His giving nature truly knew no bounds.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2018 from the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. 1294 ANGELLA MAE LEWIS, 23 - THE FATAL MISTAKE DEATH ON THE HIGHWAY
Syracuse Herald American (NY) - December 28, 1997
When Angella Mae Lewis was in high school, she signed a pact with her mother, Jackie Brockett. It said that if Lewis ever needed a ride home, she would call mom and get one, no questions asked.

"We both signed the contract," Brockett said. "It was on our refrigerator for a long time."

Angella Mae Lewis, 23, of 39 Harrington Road, Parish, and her stepsister, Gabrielle Fisher, 19, were headed back to Fisher's home March 16 at 5953 Hare Road in Central Square, Brockett said.

Oswego County sheriff's deputies, however, said Fisher was drunk. Her vehicle struck the back of a stopped snow plow on state Route 104 and county Route 29, deputies said. Her blood-alcohol level was tested at .13 percent, said Paul Stoner, head of the county's Stop DWI program.

Sheriff's deputies charged Fisher with driving while intoxicated. She pleaded guilty to driving while ability impaired on Oct. 10 in Scriba Town Court. Fisher received a $300 fine plus $25 in surcharges and had her license revoked for one year.

Brockett said she feels no anger or bitterness toward Fisher, who had known her stepsister for at least 14 years.

"There was nothing to forgive, in my opinion," Brockett said. "I went back to her place, and she was weeping, saying she was sorry.

"I told her it wasn't her fault. I didn't know she had been drinking. She's feeling guilty for everything and my heart just goes out to her."

Lewis' 3-year-old daughter, Shaleena Anthony, still asks for her mother. Shaleena stops her aunts, her grandparents, anyone who may know.

"She's always asking, `Have you seen my mommy?"' said Serina Lewis, Angella's sister. "We always tell her the same thing. We tell her she's in heaven."

Lewis also is survived by her mother and stepfather, Jackie and Timothy Brockett of Parish, her father and stepmother, Edward and Julee Lewis of Hastings, sisters Pamela Schubert and Lorretta Hadlock, both of Pulaski, Amy Proulx of North Syracuse, Vanessa Lewis of Hastings, her maternal grandparents, James and Veronica Proulx of Hastings, and her maternal great-grandfather, George Veitch of Tuscon, Ariz.

PARISH WOMAN DIES IN CRASH THE CAR IN WHICH SHE WAS RIDING HIT THE REAR OF A SNOWPLOW EARLY SUNDAY IN SCRIBA.
Post-Standard, The (Syracuse, NY) - March 17, 1997
A 23-year-old Parish woman died early Sunday morning after the car she was a passenger in crashed into the back of a county snowplow, Oswego County Sheriff's deputies said.

Angella Mae Lewis, of 39 Harrington Drive, was riding in car driven by her stepsister Gabrielle Fisher, 19, of 5953 Hare Road, Central Square. The car rear-ended the snowplow on state Route 104 and county Route 29 in Scriba, deputies said.

Fisher was headed east on Route 104 at 1:26 a.m. when she drove into the rear of the plow stopped at the intersection.

Lewis was taken to Oswego Hospital and was later transferred to University Hospital for severe bleeding and internal injuries. She died at 6:13 a.m. Sunday. Fisher was taken to Oswego Hospital for facial lacerations. She was treated and released Sunday morning, a nursing supervisor said.

The driver of the snowplow, Thomas Wilson, 36, and his passenger, Edward McGrath, 43, both of Oswego, were not injured.

Wilson said he and McGrath were working the night shift when the accident happened. Wilson was stopped at the intersection waiting for traffic to clear so he could back up the sander plow, turn around, and head in the opposite direction.

"I let a couple of cars go by and waited for a third car to go around and it didn't. It hit the back of the plow," Wilson said Sunday. "I saw them coming but I couldn't move either way."

Wilson said there were snow flurries at the time, but visibility was clear.

Fisher was charged with driving while intoxicated and was issued a ticket to appear in Scriba Justice Court April 29, deputies said.

Neither Fisher nor Lewis was wearing seat belts.

Born in Syracuse, Lewis was a life resident of the Parish and Central Square area. She was employed by Cooper Clement/Scan Corp. of Mattydale.

Called Angel as a nickname by some, Lewis's first name was spelled with two "ls" instead of one because of an error on her birth certificate, said her mother, Jackie Brockett.

"It was a mistake, and it just stuck. She got upset when people spelled it wrong," Brockett said.

Brockett said her daughter was always lively and out and about. She said Lewis lived for her daughter, Shaleena Anthony, who will turn 3 next month.

"There weren't too many people who knew her who didn't like her," Brockett said. "Her name was Angel in my book, and she was the name."
