Feb 17, 1761, William's widow asked for an account of money expended by William in paying debts of his brother, Lemuel, deceased, for whom he was administrator. Mar 10, 1761, the probate court allowed money for the support of his family. "estate being settled". | 12817 | Lemuel was in a regiment stationed at Howland's Ferry, Tiverton RI, 1778-79, one year, and was in Sullivans expedition. He moved to the state of New York during the war and also served at times in that state. Biography Lemuel Steward[1][2] was born 6 April 1759, in Stonington, New London, Connecticut.[3][4] Lemuel Stewart of Little Hoosick, NY, married Rebecca Rose of Preston [5] on August 18, 1782[6], and they had six children together.[7] He died at the age of 69, on 8th March, 1829, in Grafton, Rensselaer, New York, USA[8][9] "Lemuel was in a regiment stationed at Howland's Ferry, Tiverton RI, 1778-79, one year, and was in Sullivan's expedition. He moved to the state of New York during the war and also served at times in that state."[10] From Genealogy Chart for Descendants of Lieut. William Steward: "Moved to NY with his parents' family and the John Church family about 1780 and settled at Hoosick (likely Petersburgh area), and removed to Grafton in 1796." "Buried near his home just across the present road at Shaver Pond, now know as Lake Elizabeth." From Grafton Historical Society newsletter dated, Dec. 2014. Posted by pvella92 on Ancestry. Not sure if it's copyrighted material. Posted here by Margaret Sheldon Kleimola "But upon fulfilling his contract Owen decided to move on and he sold his property including this house to Lemuel Stewart of Petersburg on July 2, 1796 according to Rensselaer County Records Book. (p 106) In Families of Petersburg, Hilda Allen Moon writes Lemuel Stewart first came to Petersburg with his cousins the Church brothers from Stonington, CT following his service in the Revolutionary War. Lemuel supposedly first married an Indian wife by whom he had one son John. His second marriage was to Rebecca Rose with whom he had eight more children. When Grafton became a town in 1807 Lemuel Stewart was a justice of the peace for many years and Grafton town clerk for the year 1814-1815. He recorded his sheep's ear marks in the town's minutes book on March 29, 1809. In 1820 a new road was proposed. The Troy- Petersburg Turnpike was incorporated and a new, improved toll road was built. The new road by-passed this house so Lemuel Stewart had it moved over 800 feet from a location south of its present location to the present location. 16 yoke of oxen were harnessed to complete the task. How they must have struggled to drag this huge building uphill all that way! That was about 1830 and it has stood on the present site ever since. Legend says the third story was removed prior to relocation. I guess that explains the mysterious stairway to the stars- a door to nowhere at the top of the second floor. The property included 220 acre farm. At least ten sugar maples were planted by Stewart somewhere across the front area of the house. Lemuel Stewart and his descendants lived in this house and farmed the land. Lemuel's daughter Deborah became the owner of the house along with her husband Benajah Allen sometime after 1834. Several of Lemuel's Sr. children had moved to Pennsylvania, leaving his son Eliphalet II, daughters Deborah Stewart Allen and Rebecca Stewart Church still in the area. Benajah Allen, a widower with 11 children, married Deborah Stewart in 1834 following the death of his first wife. Benajah and Deborah had one child, a son named Stewart Allen the following year. In 1850 the agricultural census lists the property valued at $5000, $200 worth of farming equipment with 5 horses, 6 milch cows, 8 oxen, 16 other cattle, 9 sheep, a swine for a total value livestock value of $760. It also had more than 20 bushels of oats but no wheat, rye or tobacco. With 168 acres of improved land and 50 unimproved it seems that much was being used for pasture rather than crops. When Benajah Allen died in 1856 the will of his mother-in-law was finally probated, fourteen years after her death in 1842. Her personal property was distributed between son Eliphalet, and two daughters Deborah and Rebecca. Some her children were not mentioned at all including those who moved to Pennsylvania about 1834." | Stewart, Lemuel (I85043)

| 12832 | Lena Pierce - 1881 - July 20, 1939. Daughter of Winslow N. and Harriet Walworth Pierce. Wife of Walter Nicholson. Married June 3, 1904. Newspaper Obituary - Friday, July 21, 1939 Oswego Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Pulaski Woman Falls From Boat And Loses Life - Mrs. Walter Nicholson Believed Victim of Heart Attack Near Alexandria Bay - Pulaski, July 21 - The entire community was shocked Thursday evening on receipt of the news of the sudden death of Mrs. Lena Pierce Nicholson, 59, widow of the late Walter Nicholson, of Lake street, Pulaski, while she was enjoying a few days vacation with Mrs. F. E. MacCallum at the Waggoner cottage on Wellesley Island near Alexandria Bay. Mrs. Nicholson had apparently fallen from a motor boat in which she with Mrs. MacCallum driving it, her daughter, Thelma Nicholson, and Jack David, all of Pulaski, were taking a ride from the vicinity of the Boldt Castle to the International Bridge. They were making the turn at the Kepler blinker buoy, when the daughter suddenly called out, "Where's mother," and when Mrs. MacCallum did not hear her, called out a second time. Mrs. MacCallum turned around and saw Mrs. Nicholson's body floating about 150 feet astern. With the aid of the daughter and Jack Davis, she succeeded in getting the body into the boat and headed back for the bay, in the meantime asking residents of Cherry Island to phone to have Dr. Harold L. Gokey at the dock to meet them. Dr. Gokey was at the dock but Mrs. Nicholson was dead when brought ashore. His examination showed that there was no water in her lungs, and it is believed that she must have suffered a heart attack and stood up, falling out of the boat. Dr. Gokey reported to Undersheriff Ray Johndrow of Jefferson county who investigated the accident, that it was his belief that Mrs. Nicholson must have suffered a heart attack or stroke before falling into the water. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Winslow Pierce and was born and brought up near Fernwood. She was married to Walter Nicholson in 1902 and for a time they lived at Barnard's Corners, later moving to Pulaski. He had been a farmer and RFD carrier up to the time of his death eight years ago. Mrs. Nicholson is survived by her daughter, Miss Thelma Nicholson; a brother, Ben Pierce of Hastings; a sister, Mrs. Theodore Shaul of Buffalo, and several nieces and nephews.
