Nelson, died late Friday evening at the Evergreen Nursing Home where she had been a patient for eight months. She had been a resident of Orwell for a great many years. Funeral services were held at the Taylor Funeral Home Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Combs of Brownville, a former pastor of the Orwell Union Church, officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Orwell. She is survived by a son, Bruce W. Nelson of Rome and a grandson, David Nelson of Schenectady and a granddaughter, Mrs. Mary J. Nickele of Pacific Grove, California, and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Carroll E Nelson, died in 1954. Mrs. Nelson was born in Borodino, New York, September 18, 1863, the daughter of Thomas and Elsie Peck Milkins. She spent her early life in Borodino later coming to Orwell with her parents. She attended schools in Mexico and on October 18, 1953, she married Glenn Gates in Camden. They resided in Parish until 1963 when they moved to Hannibal. She worked as a waitress until she and her husband bought a restaurant in Hannibal. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Fulton. Surviving besides her husband are a son, Rusty Gates; five brothers, William, Herbert and Robert Lewis of Pulaski, Donald Lewis of Syracuse and John Lewis of Martville; five sisters, Mrs. Adeline Vincent of Mexico, Miss Ellie Lewis of Fulton, Mrs. Dorothy Gorton of Pulaski, Mrs. Beverly March of Memphis and Mrs. Carol Marley of Fulton. She enjoyed painting and quilting and was the author of “Great Grandma Ives’ Redwork” a quilt stitching method book. Born on November 26, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio Linda was the daughter of Robert Earl Manross and Clara Marie (Tillis) with two siblings Robert Manross of Ohio and Bonnie Manross of Florida. She graduated from high school where she was an active member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and the Girls' Glee Club. In her youth, Linda’s passions included singing in the choir and roller skating. Linda began her career as a secretary at Regal Diamond Products in Wickliffe, Ohio, and later volunteered as a candy striper at the local hospital, reflecting her caring nature and deep compassion for others. She had early aspirations of becoming a nurse but her life took a different path when she met her future husband, John Allen Horth, in 1966 through a mutual friend. Together, they built a life full of love, and they were married for 45 wonderful years. Linda was a devoted wife and loving mother to their four children and in-laws and/or their significant others: Pam Howard (previous husband Brian Howard, current significant other Bobby Orellano) Clinton, NY; John Horth Jr. (significant other Tammie ) Sandy Creek, NY; Kimberly and Mark (spouse) Vrooman Pulaski, NY and Janet and spouse Fred. She was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren-Billy Howard (Fiancé’ Sandtana Cool); Joey and Morgan (spouse ) Peterson; Thomas Vrooman (significant other Brooke Grant) ; Hannah and her fiancé Mike, Morgan, Andrew Howard (significant other Chantel Hammond); Ericka Vrooman; Emily, and Jacob (significant other Brittanie) - and 4 great- grandchildren-Stella, Brycen, Alessia, and Carter. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Linda’s life was one of kindness, dedication, and deep love. She was a caring soul, always putting others before herself. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of warmth, devotion, and a deep sense of family. Linda is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her siblings, several nieces and nephews along with great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She will be missed tremendously by her family and by everyone close to her. She was one of the most avid fans of the Dallas Cowboys since the inception of the team when she was a young child. She loved to spend her spare time with her family in El Paso and Arlington, with her father "in the mountains" in Cloudcroft, with her dogs at home, and taking an annual vacation to Las Vegas. She took each day of life in her stride, living it one day at a time. Throughout her long illness, she remained positive, always. Linda was preceded in death in 1974 by her younger brother Roy Textor. She is survived by her mother Anita Lowe Hufford of El Paso, her father R.J. Textor and his wife Marise Textor of Cloudcroft New Mexico and Houston Texas, her sister Debbie Textor Heggem and her husband Scott Heggem of Arlington Texas, her daughter Tara D'Elosua Sifuentes and son-in-law Jeremy Sifuentes of El Paso, her son Brian Maker and his wife Lily Cordell Maker of Arlington Texas, and her step-daughter Angela D'Elosua Krieger and her husband Mike Krieger of Plano Texas. She is also survived by grandchildren Ashli (age 10), Logan (age 8), and Riley (age 4) Sifuentes all of El Paso, niece Wendy Heggem Holt and her daughter Taylor Holt of Arlington, niece Tammy Heggem Shugart and her husband Ashley Shugart and son Paden Shugart of Arlington, and step-grandchildren Joey (age 14) and Josh (age 12) Krieger of Plano. Linda is a 1972 graduate of Eastwood High School and later received her Associate's Degree in Business from El Paso Community College. She had a forty year career in the insurance industry in El Paso, most recently employed by HUB International brokerage for many years and previously by J.D. Williams (currently called JDW Insurance). She was a long time active member of both the Federation of Insurance Women of Texas and of the Insurance Professionals of El Paso, and served in leadership roles, most recently as the chair of the by laws committee of the state organization. She was awarded the Insurance Professional of the Year from the El Paso organization three times, in 2011, 1996, and 1984.The El Paso organization has honored Linda by announcing they will sponsor an award named in her honor this year, the Linda Maker Service Award, to be presented to a person who goes above and beyond in the service of both the state and local organizations. | 13000 | LITTS Post-Standard, The (Syracuse, NY) - November 25, 2009 November 22, 2009 Clarence "Pete" Litts, age 92, a life resident of Pulaski, died Sunday. Clarence was born December 28, 1916 in Richland. He graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1934. He attended Cornell Agricultural College. Clarence married Florence "Beak" Cates on May 15, 1938. He was employed on various construction projects in Central New York from 1958 to 1988. He previously operated a dairy farm from 1938 to 1961. Clarence was a member of the Carpenter's Local #747, Oswego, and the NRA. Surviving: two sons, James (Jane) Litts of Pulaski, John (Mary) Litts of Holliday, FL; four daughters, Janet (George) Pfluger of Altmar, Joan Fox of Lamarque, TX, Jean (David) Harvey of Mexico, and Julie (Clarence) Robst of Clearwater, FL; one brother, Robert Litts of Pinella's Park, FL; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
