| 13107 | Lodiwick Mott Willis - December 3, 1821 - May 5, 1889. Son of John and Susan S. Mott Willis. Husband of Mary Ann Hess & Emeline R. Howard Willis. Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 16, 1889 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - South Richland - The sudden death of L. M. Willis cast a shadow over our community which will be long in passing, for the reason that Mr. Willis came here forty-five years ago and has been a busy, energetic man, a friend to all, and those who came to him in need he never turned empty-handed away. The bitter experience of being left in very early life a fatherless boy, enabled him as he came to manhood and met often with trials that crushed and bowed him to the earth, to sympathize more with others. He chose for the companion of his youthful days, Miss Mary Herr, sister of Mr. Martin Herr, of this place, but like flowers that we love most and best, she faded, drooped and died. Later, he married Miss Emma Howard, who still survives him, with his two sons, two brothers and a sister. The loving, faithful wife and sons will most miss him, for to him have they looked for counsel and advice. There are those among us who flit out and in before us, and we become accustomed to letting them do, and we never think that they may die, but the new made grave in the cemetery, the empty chair at home, the sad, tear-stained faces and aching hearts of this lonely wife and sons, all remind us that Mr. Willis is surely gone - gone to return no more. Funeral services were held at his home on Wednesday afternoon, last, Rev. J. W. Simpson, of New York Mills, officiating. A large audience listened with breathless silence and interest with to his well-chosen, comforting and impressive words, made still more impressive because of the sorrow he himself felt at the loss of this, his friend. | Willis, Lodiwick Mott (I76520)

| 13111 | Lois L. Olin - September 26, 1931 - January 20, 1946. Daughter of Glenn E. and Gertrude DeGarmo Olin. Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, January 24, 1946 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Girl Fatally Injured in Auto Mishap - Lois Olin, 14, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Olin of Richland died early Sunday morning from injuries received about an hour before when she was crushed between two cars. One of the cars, operated by Dayton Whaley, 27, Richland was standing still and the second which was driven by Harold Castor, Altmar R.D., came from the rear. According to investigation by trooper Donald Murphy, the accident happened about 1 a.m. Sunday on the Potter street road, town of Albion, a short distance north of Altmar. Lois, with two cousins, Franldin and Mary Sampson, had been attending a box social and dance held by the Defiance Fire Company of Altmar in the school gym. They were on their way to the Sampson home, just north of the village when overtaken by a car driven by Whaley who was bringing home a number of young people from Richland from the dance. The trio got into the car, rode out to the Sampson home, and Lois got out of the left rear door and started around the back of the car. The Castor car, headed in the same direction, struck the Whaley car in the rear and apparently the girl was pinned between them. Dr. A. B. Thompson was called, but could do little to save the girl. Death apparently resulted from a fractured skull and extensive internal injuries. Others injured were Castor, who suffered facial and mouth lacerations and lost several teeth, Mrs. Mary Dingman, 24, Richland, lacerations of the hands, her two children, Althea, 8, and Beverly, 6, who suffered minor lacerations and brush burns, Lena L. Person, 19, Pulaski, injuries to the lower right leg, all passengers in the Castor car. Mary Sampson, 18, Altmar, passenger in the Whaley car, bruises and shock. Other passengers in the Whaley car, who escaped injury included Anita Warren, Charles Gerdon, Orla Reynolds and Willis Waite, all of Richland, and Franldin Sampson, Altmar. Harold Castor, driver of the moving car, was arraigned before Justice Rex Weldon of the town of Albion late Sunday and sentenced without fine or bail to Oswego County jail for 10 days on a charge of driving an unregistered vehicle. The driver of the motionless car, Dayton Whaley, was arraigned on charge of having improper registered vehicle and fined $5. Miss Olin's body was released to Funeral Director Norman W. Brown of Altmar, but investigation of the accident is being conducted both by the State Police and the Oswego County District Attorney's office. The girl was born in Albion on September 26, 1931, the daughter of Glen and Gertrude DeGarmo Olin. She had made her home in or near Altmar until four years ago when the family moved to Richland. She was a student in Pulaski academy in her junior year and was a member of the choir of Richland Methodist church and of the Girl Scouts of that village. Prater was said at the family home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with services, conducted by Rev. Donald M. Cobb in Methodist church at 2 p.m. Burial was in Richland cemetery. | Olin, Lois L. (I30355)

| 13130 | Lorenzo Nicholson - January 7, 1834 - August 24, 1899. Son of Joseph and Dimis Loomis Nicholson. Husband of Esther Jane Edick. Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, August 30, 1899 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - South Richland - Died, at his home, August 24, Lorenzo Nicholson, after a long and painful illness, which he bore with a marked degree of submission. Mr. Nicholson was born in Richfield and was one of a family of eight children, six of whom still survive. When a small boy he came with his parents to this town, where he has since resided. In his youth he married Miss Esther Edick, daughter of the late William Edick. His health has been failing steadily of late, and life seemed a burden to him, although everything was done for his comfort that the hands of his devoted wife and children could do, but they could not hold back the dread messenger of death and as he quietly heard the summons, without a struggle visible to those who were watching, he yielded up his life to Him who gave it. He is survived by a wife and three children, Mrs. Charles Palmer, of Cleveland and Will and Walter Nicholson of this place. Two brothers and four sisters also survive him as follows: Joseph Nicholson, of Washington state, Henry Nicholson, of Scriba, Mrs. Maria Waters, Mrs. M. Hess, Mrs. William Conant, of Mexico, and Mrs. married Joslyn, who resides at his late home. Funeral services at the house, August 26, Rev. D. G. Cluistman officiating. Interment at Willis cemetery. Newspaper Obituary - Thursday Evening, August 31, 1899 The Oswego Daily Palladium - Oswego, New York - South Richland, August 30 - On the 24th occurred the death of one of our neighbors, Mr. Lorenzo Nicholson, after a long illness. The family consisting of a devoted wife and daughter, Mrs. Charles Palmer, Cleveland, New York, and two sons, William and Walter Nicholson, of this place, have been bereft of a kind and indulgent father, and the neighborhood a good friend, kind and ever obliging. He will be missed, but most by his immediate family because he has been shut in from mingling with those outside of his own home for nearly two years. He had two brothers, one in the far away State of Washington and one in Scriba; four sisters, Mrs. Maria Waters, Mrs. Martin Hess and Mrs. William Conant, all of Mexico, and Mrs. Mary Joslyn, who lives in his late home. That he was respected was manifested by the large crowd of people who gathered to pay their last tribute to their friend and neighbor. The funeral services were held from his late home on the 26th, the Rev. D. G. Christman officiating. The bearers were M. Barnard, L. M. Brown, C. H. Hicks and A. Rockfellow. | 13146 | Louis Jr. was born in Canada in 1830, a time when there was turmoil in Quebec, Canada. The English were trying, and in later years, succeeded in taking over Canada from France. It was during this period many French residents of Canada migrated to the U.S. They did not want to live under the English monarchy and most men fled Canada because they did not want to serve in the French military. Louis's parents migrated to the U.S. in 1857 and settled in Malone, N.Y. Louis was married to Elizabeth and probably immigrated with his parents. On the 1860 census of Malone, N.Y., Louis is listed as Lewis Lamaka, the same as his father was listed. Louis lived just a few houses away from his parents Louis and Marguerite and his brother Joseph. He was working as a day laborer and two of his children, Louise at age 4 and Michael at age 1, who is also listed as "Maglor" on the 1870 Malone census report, were living at home. On the 1870 Malone census report, Lewis was working as a farm laborer and the number of his children grew to 7. Louis was at age 36 and Elizabeth was listed at 30 years old, which is not correct. Her actual age should have been 34. The children living at home were; Louisa at 14, Maglorium, listed as Maglor at age 12, Phillip at age 9, Isarel, listed as Esweill at age 7, Adolphus, listed as Dolphus at age 4, Jeremiah at age 2 and Lewis at age 1. The 1880 Malone census Listed Louis at age 50 and Eilzabeth at age 48. Their age actually should have read Louis, 46 and Elizabeth age 44 years old. Louis was now working as a laborer at the Malone Paper Mill. His son, Riley, was also working at the paper mill. The children still living at home with their parents were; Richard, who is actually Michael, who was also listed as "Maglor" at age 22, Phillip at age 19, Riley at age 18, Adolphus, listed as "Dolfey" at age 15, Jerry at age 12, Lewis was now 10, Lena at age 6, Gilbert at age 3 and Amos at age 2. Louis was age 81 on the 1910 census report and his wife Elizabeth was age 76. Their son Gilbert and three of his children, Julius, Rosa and Armenia were living with Louis and Elizabeth. Gilbert was widowed and had not married a 2nd time yet. There was a nephew of Louis and Elizabeth, Julius Morse at age 28, living there also. | Lamica, Louis (I60181)
