Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, January 20, 1870 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Fatal Accident At Orwell - On Friday evening last, a painful accident occurred at Orwell, by which an estimable young lady lost her life. It seems that Miss Dwight, daughter of O. E. Dwight, Esq., of Port Ontario, has been teaching school for some time past at Orwell. On Friday evening Miss D. started from the school house to her boarding place. She was overtaken by an acquaintances who had a load of logs upon a sleigh. He asked her to ride, and as the walking was bad, she accepted. Arrived at a steep hill near Bennett's Bridge and in going down it the neck yoke of the team broke the sleigh slued suddenly, and the load was overturned, the logs falling upon and crushing the young woman in a horrible manner. The driver was not seriously hurt, and immediately summoned help. The logs were removed, but the poor creature under them gasped once or twice and expired. This is a sad case, and has cast gloom over the community, not only in Orwell but in the vicinity of Port Ontario, where the young lady and her family are well known. The body was taken to Port Ontario on Saturday. - Palladium.

Low (married February 8, 1872 at Salem, Washington County, New York.) [Note: For more info on Thaddeus Wood, please find him in this cemetery.]
Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, March 22, 1905 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mary Frances Fifield Low - Mary Frances Fifield, daughter of Francis and Mary Fifield, was born in Castleton, Vermont on March 18, 1840. She was educated in the public schools of that village but later removed with her parents to Salem, Washington County, New York, where she spent her early womanhood. In 1860, she came to Pulaski to engage in business, having previously learned the millinery trade. In 1868, she married, for her first husband, Thaddeus Woods, of this village, who died in 1869. On February 8th, 1872, she married Dr. Frank S. Low, of this village, to whom she bore one son, Dr. Charles Edwin Low, both of whom, together with two brothers, Frederick W. and Francis N. Fifield, survive her. After a long and painful illness, which she bore uncomplainingly, solicitors only for those whose tender ministrations, night and day, contributed to her comfort, she fell peacefully into the slumber that knows no earthly awakening on the morning of March 16th. Mary Frances Fifield Low was possessed of an executive ability given to but few and to those rare qualities of mind and heart that characterize true womanliness there was the added virtue pf a consistent painstaking every day devotion to home and family. Her death marks the closing of a life that has impressed the world for good a life richly embellished with all that belongs to symmetrical womanhood and those who knew her best will suffer most. The funeral services were conducted at the home Saturday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, by Rev. W. N. Hawkins. Mrs. Minnie Seamans Peck and Miss Bessie Davis rendered "Nearer My God to Thee," with Miss Mary L. Paul as accompanist. A profusion of beautiful floral tributes were placed about the casket.

13590 Mary Grout Carnes - May 6, 1868 - August 7, 1896. Daughter of Henry and Julia Grout. Wife of William D. Carnes.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, August 12, 1896 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mary Grout Carnes, who died at her home on Pulaski street, Richland, August 7, 1896, was born in the same place, May 6, 1868. She was the youngest child of Henry and Julia Grout. Since her father's death in 1889 the subject of this sketch has lived at the old homestead and has been the constant companion and comfort of her mother, who is left in extremely poor health. Two brothers and one sister survive her: Conductor William H. Grout, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Charles Grout, of Kane, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. H. E. McNett, of this place. On July 4, 1891, she united in marriage with W. D. Carnes, of this place and formally of South Richland, foreman on the railroad, who, with two little sons are left to mourn the loss of a loving and devoted wife and mother. Mr. Carnes will remain with and care for the aged mother as was requested by his wife. While constantly caring for her mother, who was afflicted with erysipelas, she contracted the disease and in less than ten days death claimed her as its own. There was a lingering hope that she would recover Friday morning, about five o'clock as a change was noticed and she passed quietly and peacefully away at 6:30 without regaining consciousness. Her funeral was held Sunday with a short service at the house after which the remains were taken to the church where a very impressive service was conducted by Rev. Jago of Orwell. He took for his subject Rev. 21:4. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in Richland cemetery. A profusion of beautiful flowers were presented, some from Syracuse, some from Sandy Creek, while nearly every friend in the immediate vicinity remembered her. The bearers were Messrs. Albert Washburn, H. O. Wright, M. Mitchell, of Richland, and James Mitchell, of Norwood, members of the I. O. O. F., of which Mr. Carnes is a much honored member. Those from a distance to attend the funeral were W. H. Grout, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Charles Grout, of Kane, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Eastman Carpenter, of Oswego; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Watson and two sons, of Mexico; Mr. and Mrs. Carnes and two sons, of South Richland; Fred Carnes, of Pulaski. Too much cannot be said in praise of the dear departed as she was an exemplary woman. Although not a member of the church she was a regular attendant of the M. E. church and died fully trusting in the Lord. She was a woman who was always ready and willing to do unto others as she would others do unto her and to give help and comfort in any way that it was needed. She was a kind and thoughtful neighbor, a dutiful daughter, a loving and indulgent wife and mother and her loss is deeply felt through the entire community, whose sympathy is with the grief stricken family. Dearest wife, thou halt left us and thy loss we deeply feel; But 'tis God who has bereft us, He can all our sorrows heal. Dearest wife, how we miss thee from our fireside and our home; Never more to know thy presence, ever more to walk alone. But we know 'tis righteous judgment, and God doeth all things well, and we'll strive to do His bidding, so one day with thee we'll dwell.
