Mrs. Gurley had lived with her husband, who survives her, about eighteen years. She was greatly beloved. The deceased had been a member of the Baptist church for more than fifty years and in most excellent standing both financially and spiritually. It has often been said of her that "she was such a good woman." She was a good wife, a good mother, a good councilor and consequently her Christian life was greatly to be praised, so far as man can judge. She was born in 1822, was one of eleven children, nine of whom survive her. She follows four children heavenward and leaves one son. Great was her faith in God, and she especially delighted to converse on that subject. When speaking of the blessing that came to her church this winter, she said that it seemed like a shower direct from heaven in answer to prayer, in which she believed with all her heart. She is missed not only by her immediate relatives, but is mourned by all the members of her church and the whole community. The whole world suffers when a believer passes away, but what is our loss is her gain. God took her home at last. | Phillips, Rebecca Ulrich (I57775)

| 1423 | April 28, 1898 ~ Charles H. Jones, age 59 years, 9 months, 3 days, Married, Farmer, born in Richland Township, Son of Pliny Harlow Jones born in Richland Township, and Hannah Jones born in Richland Township, Died in Richland Township of pleurisy, chronic diarrhea. Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, May 4, 1898 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Charles H. Jones, one of our best known and most respected citizens, died at his home in this town, April 28, 1898, after an illness of about three weeks. He was a son of Pleny H. Jones, one of the earlier settlers of the town of Richland, and was born in 1840 at the place of his death, the premises which had been his home in his boyhood and of which in his mature years he became the owner. At the opening of the Rebellion he was among the first to respond to the call for volunteers, enlisting in the fall of 1860 in Company K, 81st Regiment, New York Volunteer Infantry, from which he was honorably discharged in 1863 after a service of three years. In 1864 he married Vytie M. Brown who with his three sons, C. Edward Jones of Pulaski, New York, Frank E. Jones, of Bratford, Canada, and Claud H. Jones, Buffalo, New York, survive him. He had been all his life an industrious and energetic business man, owning, operating and managing successfully one of the largest farms in the town of Richland, and was expecting soon to retire from active business life and enjoy rest well earned by years of constant toil having just reached the goal to which all men look forward and which so few ever live to realize. In politics he was a republican and was always recognized as a very potent force in local political affairs. His genial hospitality, his sterling integrity and his blunt, unquestioned honesty had won for him a great number of true and loyal friends by whom he was highly esteemed and whose confidence he shared in the highest degree, a mute witness to this fact was the large gathering of friends and acquaintances from this and neighboring towns who with the members of Post Butler G. A. R. assembled at the funeral services at his late residence on Saturday afternoon, thus giving a silent testimonial to the sterling excellence and manly worth of their departed friend and associate. | 1424 | April 29, 1885 - Daniel A. Delano, age 56 years, Married, Lumberman, born in New York, Resident of Richland Township for 21 years, Son of Frederick Deans and Olive Delano, died in Pulaski of softening of the liver. Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 7, 1885 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - April 29th, 1885, at his residence in this village, D. A. Delano, aged 57 years. The deceased was born in Watertown, June 27th, 1828. His parents were regular attendants of the Presbyterian church of that city, then a large and flourishing village. It was under the religious influence of that denomination that his youth was reared. His intellectual training and culture was had in the schools and academy of that place. September 30th, 1852, he was married to Miss Caroline M. Yendes of Burrville, the loved and devoted wife who still survives to mourn the loss of a most affectionate and generous hearted husband. In 1877 they celebrated their silver wedding amid the warm congratulations of their many friends at a period of life in which they both seemed to have scarcely passed the bloom and vigor of youth, giving promise and prospect of at least another gathering and greeting on that festal occasion when the golden anniversary should dawn upon them. The deceased possessed by nature a cheerful, genial disposition and a kind and sympathetic heart. Generous, helpful and considerate of the feelings of others, he won for himself only friends. He never made an enemy. Throughout a long period of failing health, even when he seemed to be near the grave, he was still cheerful and hopeful, and although disinclined to converse on the subject of death, expressed himself as neither afraid nor unwilling to die. He was a regular attentive attendant on the religious services of the Congregational church of this village, and a generous supporter of it. His death has called forth from a wide circle of acquaintances only expressions of profound respect for his character and memory and sorrowful sympathy for the bereaved. | Delano, Daniel Aylsworth (I54112)

Thus passion he carried to the gold regions, for at times the fish in the Sacramento river were more tempting than the gold in its bed.
