14801 Newspaper Obituary - (Source Unknown) - James G. Stark - James G. Stark, 287 W. Eight St., died Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the Syracuse Veterans Amistrations hospital after a lingering illness, in his 75th year. Born in Pulaski he was the husband of the late Sadie Reynolds Stark, a member of the West Baptist church, a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Stark was a carpenter by trade and worked for several years at the Long Candy Works. He retired about 15 years ago. Surviving are: one son, John Stark of Oswego; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Hamilton of Syracuse and Mrs. Beulah Byers of Baltimore, Md.; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 11, in the Familo funeral home, corner of W. Fourth and Oneida Sts at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Artemas P. Goodwin, pastor of the West Baptist church officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski cemetery. She was born January 15, 1942 in Sandy Creek, NY, a daughter of Eliza Stewart Weaver. She attended Sandy Creek Central High School and worked for many years as a waitress and barmaid for Howard Johnson's Resturant, The Bel Aire and the Kahkwa Club. She enjoyed playing canasta, bowling and traveling with her husband, George.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include her husband George Rogala, two daughters; Kimberly (Joe) Shoop, Kelly "Brian" Tingley and a son Todd Chapman all of Erie. Craig was born August 14, 1943 in Pulaski, the son of Ernest and Julia Guthrie Stevens. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1961. Craig married Darcy Weisenburger on May 9, 1964. He was employed by Schoeller Technical Paper in Pulaski for 41 years, retiring in 2005. He was a member of the United Paper Workers Local #1066. Surviving: his wife, Darcy M.; two sons, Gary E. (Melissa) Stevens of Clay, John W. (Jeanne) Stevens of Pulaski; one daughter, Darcy M. (Chad) McCarty of Pulaski; Chad (Erin) Seyer of Cicero; one sister, Judy L. Stevens of Pulaski; 10 grandchildren, Savannah, Joshua, Sydney, Griffin, Owen, Ian, Holly, Presli, Kadin, and Adara. Funeral Service will be at 4 p.m., Monday, June 14, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Neal Brillhart officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Donald was born April 1, 1934, in Oswego, N.Y. to his parents, Warren L. and Eudocia DeForest Stewart. He attended Mansville High School in Mansville, N.Y. and served in the US Air Force for four years. He was the traffic manager for transportation at Good Fellow Air Force Base, and retired from there after 35 years. Donald married Mary S. Talley on Aug. 31, 1955, in San Angelo, and they shared 48 beautiful years together. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Warren L. Stewart, Jr. He is survived by his loving family; wife, Mary S. Mrs. Billings was stricken ill Friday on her way to Lee Memorial Hospital to visit a family member. Born Dec. 17, 1927, in Lacona, daughter of Harry and Dora Stewart Cook, she attended school in Sandy Creek. She married Phillip V. Billings on Jan. 26, 1946, in Lysander. Following their marriage, the couple lived in the Mannsville area until the late 1970s, when they moved to Zephyrhills, Fla. They returned to the Mannsville area two years ago when Mr. Billings became ill. Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Phillip E., Fulton, John A., Adams, and Robert L., Rodman; three daughters, Linda M. Bailey and Rae R. Tennant, both of Mannsville, and Tamar L. Wood, Crystal Springs, Fla.; a brother, Vernon Cook, Fulton, 14 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. 14808 Newspaper Obituary - (Source Unknown) - Emma Lura Caster - Vernon - Emma Lura (Look) Caster, age 93, went home to be with God Sunday afternoon, December 16, 2012. She passed away at Oneida Extended Care Facility with her daughter at her bed side. Emma was born on October 3, 1919, in Sandy Creek, NY, the daughter of Albert and Hazel Look. She was united to James H. Caster on May 28, 1938. He passed away in May of 2001. They had been married 63 years. Emma was a wonderful mother and a loving and devoted wife. She took great pride in caring for her family, preparing wonderful meals and keeping a beautiful home. Her family and friends will remember how much she enjoyed gardening, especially pulling "those darned old weeds". She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew her. In her later years, she was blessed to have a very close and caring friend, Ed Pekola. Everyone who knew them thought how sweet it was that they could share time together in the afternoons playing cards and drinking a glass of wine together. Emma is survived by her sons, Edward J. Caster and his wife, Nancy, and their children, Michelle and Tim, and James A. Caster and his wife, Eunice, and their children, Jim and Amy; also Jim's children, Heidi, Rachel and David Caster and David's wife, Tina. Surviving also are her daughter, Janet Lowry and her husband, Ralph, and their children, John, Ralph, Pat and Kathy Lowry; her youngest daughter, Joy Osborne and her husband, William Osborne; and Robert Reed, her deceased daughter's husband. Emma was predeceased by her husband, James (Jim), and her daughter, Carol Reed, who passed away September 5, 2005. The family would like to thank the nurses and the staff at Oneida Extended Care for the care and compassion shown to Emma. Mr. Stewart had been a farmer and a mechanic in the Town of Sandy Creek most of his life.

Since the death of her husband, David F. Carter, in July 2011, she has resided at Mountainside Senior Living in Crozet, Virginia. She was born June 7, 1931 in Richland, Oswego County, New York to Thomas William and Frances (Stewart) Davis. Joan grew up and attended school in Richland, New York. She married her husband November 14, 1948 and they lived in Ira, New York until 1960 when they moved to Lynchburg, Virginia, and later to Charlottesville in 1962. Joan worked as a secretary in the Emergency Room and Private Clinics of UVA Hospital, and later for Dr. John K. Youel. Her family is a very important part of her life and she found special enjoyment in her grand and great-grandchildren who she helped care for in their young lives. She had many dogs during her adult life who were a comfort to her as she struggled with serious health issues. Joan is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 64 years, daughter Jacki, and brother, Thomas (Bud) Davis. She leaves behind her daughters Cheryl (Cherie) Snead and husband Ronald, Beth Gibson and husband Don, granddaughters Julie Garton Edwards and Megan Garton, the grandchildren's father, Larry W. A previous marriage had ended. Surviving besides her husband, El Paso, are a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Angela) Krieger, Plano, Texas; a son, John L. Jr., El Paso; five sisters, Mrs. William (Jean) Norris, Coldspring, Texas, Mrs. Ronald (Carol) Rudd, Melbourne, Fla., Barbara Raymo, Plover Wis., Sharon Saumier, Ocala, Fla., and Mrs. Ronald (Martha) Worns, Pulaski; a brother, Richard Stewart, Ellisburg; a grandson, and several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. James (Robyn) Simmons, Fort Worth, Texas, who helped care for her during her illness. Previous to that he was employed for a period of time with the Sal Caruso Cheese Co. Frank was a hardworking, devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather whose life centered around his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, whom he took such pride in. His memory will forever live in their hearts. Denice was born in McGill, Nevada on January 28, 1938 to Keith C. Murphy and Winona Linnarz Murphy. She grew up in McGill with her brother, Alan Murphy (deceased). Denice married John William Barainca in 1954 and they had three daughters: Wendy, Jacqui, and Janet. In 1964 Denice and her family moved to Utah where John pursued an education at Brigham Young University. Denice took a job at BYU and continued to work for the university until her retirement in 2002. During that time, she earned a bachelor and master degree in library and information sciences. She was an avid family history researcher and served as a family history extraction specialist. Denice was preceded in death by her daughter Jacqui Barainca Suker (Randy Suker). She is survived by her husband John Barainca, her daughters, Wendy Pipkin (Marc Pipkin) and Janet Rock (David Rock), as well as fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Falcon Park Ward, 9119 South 1300 East in Sandy, UT. Billings , 73, formerly of Mannsville, died Thursday morning at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, John and Julie Billings , 8661 County Route 97, where he had resided and was under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County. Mr. Billings was a carpenter for various construction projects throughout Central New York and also was self-employed. Previously, he worked at Seal-Right, Fulton, and at the Bird's Eye plant at Red Creek. He was a member and past master of Rising Light Masonic Lodge 637, Belleville. Born Nov. 4, 1926, in Fulton, son of Edward and Bessie York Billings , he attended school in Fulton. He served in the Navy during World War II and participated in the Normandy invasion. He married Dorothy M. Cook on Jan. 26, 1946, at Lysander. They lived in Mannsville until moving in the late 1970s to Zephyrhills, Fla., where Mr. Billings was active in flea markets. They returned to the Mannsville area in 1996. Mrs. Billings died Oct. 11, 1998, after which Mr. Billings went to live with his son and daughter-in-law. Surviving besides his son and daughter-in-law are two other sons and their wives, Phillip E. and Barbara, Fulton, and Robert and Debbie, Rodman; three daughters, Linda Ellis Bailey and Rae Tennant, both of Mannsville, and Tamar Wood Rude, Zephyrhills; a sister, Mrs. Harry (Jane) Savage, Oswego ; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was born July 13, 1916; son of Frank Mandigo and Eva Stewart Mandigo of Pulaski, N.Y. Richard Mandigo graduated from Pulaski High School in 1931 and received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Science from Cornell University in 1938. After graduation from Cornell University he was employed as a Herdsman in Rochester, NY and as an acting 4H Agent in Jefferson County, NY. In 1940 he married Barbara Belle Keeney and returned to Pulaski, NY to own and operate the Stewart family farm (since 1876). He was a member of the Pulaski Baptist Church, a sixty nine year member of the Pulaski Grange, Past President of the Farm Bureau, Past President of the Oswego County Cooperative Extension Executive Committee, Life Member of the Pulaski Historical Society, and served on the Board of Directors of Spring Brook Apartments, Inc. Richard Mandigo retired from farming in 1973. From 1973 until 1986, Richard & Barbara Mandigo traveled extensively; visiting cities, friends, and historical sites in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and the South Pacific. From 1986 until 2001, Richard & Barbara Mandigo spent winters in Umatilla, Florida and summers in Pulaski, NY. From 2001 to 2010, Richard & Barbara Mandigo lived at Lake View Terrace in Altoona, Florida. Barbara Mandigo continues to reside at Lake View Terrace. After many years of employment at Smith Corona she worked at the Burger King in Dryden until 2005. She enjoyed bowling and square dancing. Vaughn was born in Syracuse, N.Y., on Jan. 27, 1950 to Eugene and Edith Stewart McGrath. He grew up in the Eastwood neighborhood and graduated from Henniger High in 1969. After high school, Vaughn attended The Art Institute of Boston as well as Boston University. He enjoyed a career in Web and Graphic Design and Illustration and ran his own business McGrathics for 30 years. Vaughn is survived by his brother, Stewart McGrath (wife Patricia) from Anderson, S.C and two sisters, Cynthia Wodrich (husband Kenneth) and Wendy Mouille (husband Michael), both from Sonoma, CA. There are two nieces, Nicole Roberts and Caitlin Mouille and one nephew, Thomas Joseph Rooney. He was also loved by two grand nephews, Thomas Joseph Rooney Jr. and Noah Tomas Rooney. Vaughn was preceded in death by Eugene and Edith McGrath and his niece, Heather Travers. He was an avid ocean sailor and sailboat owner, glider pilot, artist, cabinetmaker and stain glass designer. He completed the requirements to achieve his U.S. Merchant Marine Captain's license in 2008. His interests were in antiques, American Flyer trains & antique toys, history, and automobile and yacht racing. Vaughn had a wonderful sense of humor and kindness that will be truly missed. Newspaper Obituary - 1905 Sandy Creek News - Daniel Upton - Daniel Upton was born in the town of Sandy Creek, N.Y., September 29, 1828. His parents, James and Eunice Upton, came to Sandy Creek from New Hampshire in 1809 when this country was a complete wilderness. In 1867 he married Miss Lovina Widrig. They had two children, Libbie who died in young womanhood and William who resides in Brownville, N.Y. His wife died in 1890. In 1893 he married Mrs, Wilder who with the son William, a stepson Herman Wilder and two sisters Mrs. Susanna Bryon and Mrs. Aluna Bidwell, survive him. His funeral was held from his late home September 10 at 2 o'clock p. m. The Rev. Mr. Newberry of Sandy Creek Baptist church officiating.

1895 Landmarks of Oswego - Upton, Daniel, was born in Sandy Creek September 29,1829, the only son of James and Eunice (Knowlton) Upton; he a native of Connecticut and she of New Hampshire. They came to Sandy Creek in a very early day. Mr. Upton was in the war of 1812. He was a farmer and lived and died on the farm now owned by our subject. The father of James Upton was one of the first settlers of this town. Our subject was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools. He has always been a farmer, owns 200 acres, and follows general farming and dairying. Mr. Upton married in 1857 Lavina Widrig, a native of Herkimer county, and came to Sandy Creek when five years old. Subject and wife have two children, W. D. and Lydia, who died aged sixteen.

He was a 1961 graduate of Carthage Central High School then served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966. He received his AAS degree from JCC and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree from SUNY, New Paltz in 1977. He worked for the Monroe-Woodbury School District then returned to Carthage, working at the Crown Zellerbach Corp. until the mill closed. He was an Art Instructor at Fort Drum for 20 years, retiring in 2004. A former marriage to Lelita Lago ended in divorce. Rodney is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cait Schadock of Adams, two daughters: Ellen (Russell) Hausmann of Bloomington, NY, from his previous marriage, and Abby Schadock-Hewitt of Greenville, SC, 3 Grandchildren, Ryan, Steven and Lorren Potter and a Great Grandson, Owen Potter-Krieger, two sisters: Donna (Roger) Hoch of Carthage and Linda (Gary) Weir of Lakeland, FL and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She spent her younger years living in Lowville, before moving to Oswego. Through the years, Joan spent her winters in Oswego, and her summers at her home on Brantingham Lake in the Adirondacks. Joan was very active in Oswego. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Boards of Directors at St. Luke Health Services, and at Riverside Cemetery. She had formerly served on the Board of Directors for the Oswego Hospital, and was the first woman to hold the office of president of that organization. She had also been active in AAUW, Winter Club, Oswego County Hospice, the Oswego Children's Board, and many other organizations throughout the years. She was a life member of the Oswego Country Club. Joan was a 1945 graduate of Oswego High School, a 1947 graduate of Penn Hall Junior College, and a 1948 graduate of Syracuse University. Joan and her husband, Clark Morrison III, were married on December 20, 1948 in Oswego. Clark passed away on June 26, 2006. She is survived by her four children, Clark (Cecily) Morrison IV, of Oswego, Nancy Morrison (Charles) Zysk of Baldwinsville, Graham McM. (Kathy) Morrison of Carpentersville, Illinois, and David J. Howlett, 64, retired rural mail carrier, died early Friday morning at the Veteran's Hospital in Syracuse, where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He had been seriously ill the past six months and in ill health for several years. Services were held Monday at 2:30 p. m. at the Pulaski Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Vander Hey, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Pulaski Cemetery. The American Legion and Veterans of W.W. I Barracks 149 served as color guards. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lillie Bush Howlett; five sons, Dr. Harlan Howlett of Pleasant Valley, Alfred of Tully, William of Fresno, Calif., Charles of Belmont, Carl Howlett at home, and a foster son, Ron ald Tanner, also at home; two daughters, Mrs. James (Lois) Roberts of Pulaski and Mrs. Anthony (Coral) Rinaldo of Oneida; 19 grandchildren; five brothers, Frank Howlett of Utica, Arthur of Boyes Springs, Calif., Carl of Clayville, Albert of Syracuse and Russell of Pulaski; three sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Ruth) Fort of Syracuse, Mrs. Robert (Frances) Lynch of Waterville and Miss Irma Howlett of Utica and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Howlett was born in Pulaski on June 25, 1895, the son of Cedric Arthur and Ina Miller Howlett. He lived with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan J. Howlett from the age of four years, until 14, when he was adopted by them. He was graduated from Pulaski High School in 1914 and attended Canton Agricultural College for two years. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1917 and was married to Miss Lillie Bush on April 12, 1923. Before entering the employ of the Pulaski Post Office as a rural letter carrier in April 14, 1930, he had been employed at the Regal Paper Co., for a few years. He retired from the post office on Oct. 1, 1958. He was a member of the Pulaski Baptist Church since boy hood and had served as a [trustee of the church. He was a charter member of Robert Edwards Post, 358, American Legion, and of the Salmon River Barracks, Veterans of World War I, in which he held various offices. Stewart, 81, lifelong resident of the Richland section, who died Wednesday, March 24, 1937, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bernice Lyons, Pulaski, where he had resided for about 15 years. Mr. Stewart was born in Richland, June 15, 1856, son of Draper and Anna Marpole Stewart. He married Melissa Damon in Orwell about 62 years ago. She died April 9, 1915. Mr. Stewart for many years worked as a carpenter for the New York Central railroad and also conducted a farm near Richland. He is survived by one son, Fred B. Stewart of Pulaski; two daughters, Mrs. Blanche Price of Futon and Mrs. Bernice Lyons of Pulaski with whom he lived. Other survivors include three brothers, Draper Stewart, Richland; Lemuel Stewart of Syracuse and Edward Stewart of Mexico; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Dolly of Syracuse, and Mrs. Ward Stinson of Pulaski; three grandchildren, Robert Stewart, Richland; Mrs.Hazel Harrington, Pulaski, and Ernest Lyons of Syracuse.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 25, 1937 Oswego Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Pulaski, March 25 - Ethel Stewart, retired farmer and railroad worker, died Wednesday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bernice Lyons, Erie street. He had been ill a long time. Mr. Stewart was born July 15, 1856, son of the late Draper and Anna Marpole Stewart and was a lifelong resident of Richland and Pulaski. For several years he was a bridge carpenter with the New York Central Railroad. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Lyons and Mrs. Blanche Price of Fulton; one son, Fred Stewart, Pulaski; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Stanson, Meacham District, and Mrs. Nellie Dawley, Syracuse; three brothers, Draper Stewart of Richland, Edward Stewart of Mexico and Lemuel Stewart of Syracuse, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Lynns home Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. C. W. Chapman of Richland Church of Christ officiating and burial in Richland Cemetery.

Mandigo, 45, died at her home on the Spring Brook road, about one mile east of Pulaski, Monday morning after an illness of about one and one half years. She had been a patient in Oswego County sanatorium for several months. Eva Stewart Mandigo was born August 28, 1884, daughter of Joel W. Stewart and Mary E. Stewart on the homestead where she had lived her entire life. On June 25, 1908, she was married to Frank M. Mandigo. She is survived by her husband; one son, Richard, and three sisters, Mrs. Charles Howlett and Mrs. Delia Bush of Pulaski, and Mrs. Rose Fillmore of Thompsonville, Conn. Mrs. Mandigo was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, the Co Workers class and of Pulaski grange. 14846 Newspaper Obituary - April 11, 2010 The Seattle Times - John Marvin LOOK June 23, 1923 ~ April 4, 2010 John was born in Seattle and except for his time in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he lived here all his life. His great-grandfather came across the plain in a covered wagon settling in the Chehalis area. During John's time in the Navy he was stationed from Adak, Alaska, to Saipan in the South Pacific. He served in the Seabees (Construction Battalion) who were preparing to build the docks in Japan after the initial landings. He had already been issued his rifle when the Atomic bombs were exploded. After the war he returned to Seattle and graduated from the University of Washington where he courted and married his wife of 63 & years, Patricia Baker. Upon graduation he worked in finance at the University for 17 years. He then moved to the Boeing Company for 20 years. He retired as Director of Insurance and Employee Benefit Trusts. John was an avid golfer. He was on the Board of Inglewood Golf Club when they were able to buy the land. He later was President of the club. He served on the Board of Desert Horizons Golf Club, Indian Wells, California where he and his wife spent their retirement winters. He is survived by his wife, Pat, brother William E. Hall of East Wenatchee, niece Sandra Hall, nephew Ron Hall and several great nieces and nephew. John was predeceased by an infant daughter, Shirley Ann, mother and father Pearl and Chester Hall and adoptive parents Maye and Joel H. Look.
