Mr. Stewart is a veteran conductor on the R. W. & O. R. R. His many friends deeply sympathize with him in this his deep affliction. Deceased was thirty-eight years of age. The funeral will be held on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 18, 1892 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Richland - Although last Friday was very inclement indeed, the funeral of Mrs. Draper Stewart was largely attended at the Church of Christ. The floral offerings were superlatively beautiful. The was a floral "Gate Ajar," presented by the railroad company, and a floral device with the word "Sister" on it, presented by George Mellen, and many other flowers. The bearers were George Purdy, Frank Rowland, Brent Washburn, William Averill, Charles Field and L. J. Rounds, of Lacona. The services were conducted by Dr. Belding, of Troy. Rev. Hancock, foster Pratt, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Potter, all of Orwell, with Mrs. G. D. Purdy, of Richland, as organist and soprano singer, composed the choir. The music was pronounced very superior indeed. The interment was in Richland cemetery. Mrs. Stewart was a woman of great loveliness of character; one who always made friends, never enemies. Next to her bereaved husband her loss will be most felt by her brother, whose life almost seemed bound up in her life. There is and affection between a brother and sister unlike any other, and when the grim messenger takes one of the twain, "It is hard to part." Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 18, 1892 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - editor Democrat: The subject of this sketch, whose maiden name was Maria L. Mellen, was born at Sullivan, Ohio, November 19, 1854, and passed away to her eternal rest at her home in Richland, February 19, 1892, in the 38th year of her life. No sadder news was ever conveyed to the people of Richland and vicinity than the announcement of her death, and many were the friends that were unable to realize that they could never see her face again in life. Her illness was of many months' duration, with intense suffering much of the time, yet she bore it all in the spirit of true Christian patience which had characterized her life and actions, and had won a large circle of friends who deeply feel their loss in this early death. Mrs. Stewart took great delight in church work, and was very active in everything which she thought would make the community better, and especially anxious to see the young giving their energy to a life of purity and right living. Her death creates a vacancy in the church society where she was associated, that years of toil cannot fill. Many sorrowful hearts far away, would have been glad to have mingled their tears with those that wept at her grave. With special sadness does her death come to a brother, and her husband, who said that no unkind word ever escaped her lips during their 17 years of married life. Thus has passed away a true wife, a loving sister, a devoted friend and neighbor, to that land where sadness and death are never known. The many beautiful floral offerings spoke in silent tones of sorrow, of the abiding love and friendship in many hearts. Her funeral was at the Disciples' Church at Richland, on Friday, February 12, 1892, conducted by Rev. Dr. Belden, of Troy. S. C. M. Black River, New York. Vitals - February 9, 1892 - Maria L. | 16363 | Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 15, 1877 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Casket - Maltby - At the residence of his parents, and Pulaski, February 6th, 1877, of consumption, Bernice D. Maltby, aged 23 years. The sympathy of this community has been especially drawn out toward the parents of the deceased by this event, and the loss of an only son and toward the young wife left behind with an infant child in her arms. To the parents, the feeling of loss is intensified by the remembrance of a devoted, _ love and helpfulness constantly manifested toward them, and on which they were relying as their dependence in old age. But the deceased has left behind the strongest possible consolation by which to sooth the sorrows of desolated parental hearts in the evidence he has given that he had made his peace with God, and that death to him is gain, eternal gain, though present lost to them. His Bible was his constant companion, especially in the last months of his sickness, and in periods of intense pain and suffering, he was accustomed to say that he found his only but sure relief and prayer. He spoke often of his wish that he were able to appeal to his young friends and associates to seek the Savior and make full preparation for death in the hour of health and strength; assuring them that they would not make that preparation too soon, nor love their Savior too much, nor serve him too long or too well. May it be said that "being dead" he yet speaketh. | Maltby, Bernice Doane (I19027)

| 16366 | Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 17, 1859 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died of typhoid fever, in the town of Mexico, Oswego Co., New York, January 28th, 1859, William Augustus Sampson, aged 26 years, 3 months. The subject of this sketch was born and reared on the spot from which he took his exit, we trust, to find a new and happier home above. He was a young man of fine intelligence, cultivated habits and generous sentiments, to which were added the adornments of a meek and humble Christian spirit. By these sterling qualities he was endeared to all, and occupied a large place in the confidence of all with whom he mingled. Little less than three years ago he was united in marriage to an amiable and Christian lade, who had been reared in the family of Mr. Walker, of Union Square, of whose companionship he was deprived by death one year ago this present month. She was the idol of his fondest affections, and her dying counsels, sank with melting influence into his heart. Bereft thus of the light and joy and hope of his earthly pilgrimage, he learned the frailty of this passing life, and at once commenced a search for durable riches, from which he gave himself no rest till he found the "pearl of great price." Having found "peace in believing and joy in the Holy Ghost," his affections were transferred with their cherished object from earth to the home of unbroken ties above, and he entered with increasing zeal and fervor upon the mission of a Christian disciple, and labored with much success in the vineyard of his Lord, till called to his account. He fell in the midst of his years, but fell with his armor on. A large community feel and mourn his loss, while doting parents and a sorrowing brother are left to finish their journey alone; but our hearts respond. | Samson, William Augustus (I30245)

| 16369 | Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 18, 1875 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Casket - Richardson - In New Centerville, February 13th, 1875, Freeman Richardson, aged 84 years. Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 18, 1875 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Obituary - The late Freeman Richardson was born March 2_th, 1791, in Barry, Massachusetts. He united with the Baptist Church in Barry, at the age of 1_years. Removed to Ellisburg, Jefferson County, New York, in 1813, was married the same year and joined the Army as a volunteer, serving until the close of the war. He died February 12 and was buried in Woodville, Jefferson County, New York, February _, 1875. However, aged our friends maybe, we still mourn their departure, and think death an unfeeling tyrant, who spares neither age nor youth. But why need we feel thus when a good old Christian soldier of the cross is called from earth, one who has tried to serve his master faithfully, who has set a good example to all around him, who has finished his work on earth and has done it well. How much more appropriate would it be to rejoice that his weary pilgrimages over, and that now he may enjoy the rest so much needed. He was ready for that journey, with his _on waiting to hear his master's call, "Come ye blessed of my father, and _the joys prepared for you." It is a beautiful _ to _ an aged person thus fully prepared to _ death, like a _of wheat all ready for the harvest. To such, death comes naturally, like a lamp with the oil burned out, just flashes and fades away. Death coming just as life is complete and calmly and peacefully the end is reached. They can say, "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for Thou art with me, and Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me." When a Christian has reached this point in his progress, earth no longer allures him, heaven draws nearer and nearer, until it seems that there is but one step from this earthly to the heavenly, just one link between the _and the spiritual, waiting just outside the pearly gates. They seem to catch a glimpse of the Angels in waiting, and of glory beyond. Mourn not for such, but think of them _from all harm, happy beyond all that earth can afford safe in the arms of Jesus, and _with him to all the glories of that _ house, where he can forever dwell among those green pastures, and beside the still waters. Who would not so live is to receive such an inheritance, who would not die and hope of such a gracious and eternal home, where all is joy, and peace, and love. | Richardson, Freeman (I28519)

| 16383 | Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 23, 1888 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Orwell - On Saturday morning, as the first gray streakings of the morning light illuminated the peaceful blue of the eastern horizon, the guardian angel descended and silently bore from our midst the spirit of Mrs. Aroma Blount. For a long time Mrs. Blount has been a silent and patient sufferer from a disease which has baffled the skill of the best medical advice that could be obtained, and although we are pained to learn of her death, we are not surprised. Mrs. Blount was a lady possessed of rare Christian virtues. Ever an affectionate wife, a kind and indulgent parent, and a sympathizing friend and neighbor, she will be missed, not only by her bereaved family, but by a large circle of sorrowing friends. Her Christian example and consistent life will ever be an inspiration to those who knew her, and though she may not be present with us, her influence will continue to guide the lives of those who knew and appreciated her true worth. | Thomas, Pheobe (I69889)
