Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 17, 1888 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Obituary Remembrance - Mrs. Betsey Goit Dodge, wife of Charles C. Dodge, was born in Madison County, New York, November 26, 1817. She was married to Charles C. Dodge, of the town of Richland, Oswego County, by the Rev. Ralph Robinson, June 3, 1841. She died in Pulaski, April 30, 1888, of bronchial consumption. She leaves a devoted husband and for dutiful sons, who feel their loss in a marked degree, and cherish her memory with grief, acquiescence and hope; with grief, because bereft of her cheerful, social, dutiful and inspiring presence. Her companionable and maternal qualities endear to her to us. Her acquiescence, for we would humbly submit to the dispensation of Divine Providence, believing our loss to be her gain; with hope, for she confided in Jesus and in Him alone for forgiveness of sin, and for eternal salvation, and passed the triangle or deal with such resignation and calm, unfaltering, a relic trust, that assured us that all was well. Her social qualities were largely shared and reciprocated by relatives, friends and neighbors, while her sympathetic heart ever responded to the sorrowing, the suffering and the needy.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, June 6, 1878 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - Woods - In this village, May 24, 1878, Sally Wait Woods, aged 93 years, relict of the late John Woods. The deceased was the daughter of Thaddeus Wait, Esq., of New Fane, Vermont, and was born January 6th, 1785. She was married to John Woods, September 15th, 1806. They came to this town in 1809, where both spent the remainder of their days. Her husband, John Woods, died December 2d, 1852, and was reputed to be, at that time, the wealthiest person then resident in the town. She continued to occupy the homestead with some one of her sons until her decease. She has lived to see the fifth generation, and at the celebration of her ninetieth birthday could number one hundred lineal descendants. A greatly honored and deeply loved mother and grandmother, in all the relations of life affectionate, kind, helpful, faithful and true. Active and industrious through life, she retained, to a wonderful degree, both her physical and mental faculties, remarkable especially for her clear, strong and accurate memory. November 22d, 1868, the deceased united by public profession with the Congregational church of Pulaski. But she dated the beginning of her religious experience to a period nearly fifty years previous; and in the closing years of her life spoke often of the satisfaction she felt in this set of public avowal of the Lord Jehovah, and the Savior her Redeemer, and in the communion service, not only as fulfilling a conscious obligation, but also as a privilege of joy, bringing strength and light to her soul. In later years she spent much time in reading the Bible and sacred hymns until her eyesight failed her, a loss she especially bewailed, because most of all it deprived her of this privilege. The burden and privations of old age she endured with great patience; but was more than willing to depart, feeling it was better to depart, and that to die was gain. The wants and helplessness of her last days were ministered to with unfailing and duty and filial tenderness; and quietly, peacefully as last she fell asleep in Jesus. In the last days of her life she seemed to herself to meet again her early associates, and their names were often on her lips. They were near, the meeting has come. She has reached the shored of a blessed immortality; for it is written by the pen of the divine inspiration "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord."

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 5, 1892 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In this village, April 2, 1892, Angeline, wife of Benjamin Stewart, aged 58 years. One by one we are passing away. We are stricken down like the stars in the sky. The kind and patient ways of the deceased has twined around the hearts of her dear home circle so closely that each fiber seems a part of their own being. None knew her but to love her, and in her death we feel that a gem has been dropped from our circle that cannot be replaced. May we all be like her when death calls us, be ready to cross the mystic river. While our hearts deeply sympathize with the afflicted, we can but commend them to Him who healeth the broken hearted.

16764 Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 6, 1852 Northern Democrat - Pulaski, New York - The most sad result of the late fire is the death of the daughter of Dr. Noyes, noticed under the proper head, in to-days paper. She was out in the evening of the fire, and contracted a violent cold, which settled upon the brain. She was an unusually interesting girl, intelligent and accomplished beyond her years, a beautiful singer and pianist Would that the sympathy of friends might allay, as it most feelingly shares, the affliction of the bereaved.

16765 Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 6, 1869 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In Orwell, on the 3d inst., Mrs. Olive Wyman, aged 70 years.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 13, 1869 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Obituary - Olive, wife of Perley Wyman, died at the residence of her husband, in Orwell, May 3d, 1869, in the 71st year of her age. The family has resided in the town for more than half a century, and although they commenced poor, and experienced more than the ordinary trials incident to pioneer life, by industry and frugality they secured a competence. As a wife, mother, and neighbor, she was affectionate, kind and generous. She experienced religion and became a member of the M. E. Church in 1817, retaining her membership in the Church of Christ "Till her body with its charge lay down, and ceased at once to work and live." She was the mother of ten children, eight of whom still survive. Her sickness, (being cancer,) was protracted several months, but she suffered patiently, constantly relying on the mercy of God, for succor and support. She approached death with Christian heroism, by making preparation for the solemn change awaiting her, in having her grave clothes prepared and presented for her inspection, some weeks before she died. She took leave of her companion and children by giving them her parting blessing and words of encouragement and reproof "Farewell, conflicting hopes and fears, Where lights and shades alternate dwell. How bright the unchanging morn appears, Farewell, inconstant world, farewell."

Until within a few months of his death he was quite active for a man of his advanced age, and would readily pass for a person of 60 years. 16782 Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, November 12, 1891 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Last Wednesday afternoon, a horrible tragedy occurred here, resulting in the instant death of Wilmot Joslyn and wife. The mail trains do not stop here, but fly past at full speed, and as the last mail came thundering through, it collided with the buggy containing the couple who were attempting to cross the track by the depot. The train was stopped, and a crowd soon collected, but nothing could be done. Strange to say the horse was not injured while the buggy was smashed to kindling. An inquest was held the next day, the verdict exonerating any one from blame. The funeral services were held at the church, Friday afternoon, Rev. Northrup preaching a most impressive sermon. Mr. and Mrs. Joslyn had been married about two weeks, and were on their way to N. Hungerford’s to see about renting their farm. Miss Effie Hungerford, who sat by the window looking out, was the only one who witnessed the accident. By Mr. Joslyn’s death, four children are left orphans, but they are all placed in pleasant homes where every kindness will be shown them.

He was the son of Ira Joslyn, of South Redfield, NY. His first wife was named Mary, his second wife, killed in the train crash, was Josie Stowell.

16790 Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, November 17, 1870 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In this village November 9, Mr. Anson Maltby, aged 78 years.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, March 16, 1871 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - In Memory of Anson Maltby - The subject of these lines was born in 1802 in Paris, Oneida County, New York, and moved to this place with his parents in 1810, when this section of the state was merely a wilderness, where he resided to the day of his death. He was a man who was much respected by the community, who gave him many substantial tokens of their esteem by placing him in several positions of public trust, he having been several times elected to the office of president of the village. He was placed in charge of Pulaski Academy at the time of its erection, which building will long stand as a monument of his energy and skill as a Mason. He was for many years a humble, consistent member of the Congregational church in this village. The brickwork of the present fine edifice belonging to that society was erected under his supervision. He possessed a mind capable of assisting those who stood in need of good counsel, being sound and judgment, and sympathizing and heart. So, one after another of our first settlers are passing away, leaving us to fill their places. "Shall we meet again," was a thought he often expressed. We hope we shall, in a better world above.
Maltby, Anson (I18955)
