McNett, one of our brightest students, died after a short illness at the home of his parents near South Richland, April 10, 1894. The fimeral occurred at the same place, April 12th. A delegation from the class of 1895, of which he was a member, and one from the P. A. Congress, attended. Out of respect to his memory the following resolutions were adopted by the students of Pulaski Academy and by P. A. Congress: Again the students of Pulaski Union School and Academy are called upon to lament the death of a beloved fellow student. In the death of our friend, Louis McNeil, we feel the school has suffered a loss not easily to be repaired. He was always energetic, obliging and kind; he was respected by both faculty and students. And earnest scholar, a young man conscientious in all things, he has thus early in life been called to his long home, leaving behind in the remembrance of an example worthy of imitation. While we cannot understand the wisdom which is taken him from us, yet we trust we can bow to the Divine will. Wherefore, be it Resolved, That in his death the school has sustained and irreparable loss; the students a faithful friend and co-worker; the teachers a thorough student and his parents a good son, a staff to lean upon in their old age. And, further, be it Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved family, and be printed in the Pulaski Democrat. Albert A. Wright, Charles Hutchins, Harrison K. Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, April 18, 1894 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - At his home in South Richland, New York, April 10, 1894, Louis McNett, aged 17 years. Louis had many friends and was a young man of exemplary habits and character. Sweet spirited and of mild disposition, he made friends and kept them. He was the youngest child and second son of Robert and Martha McNett. Loving him fondly and tenderly, humoring him much had not spoiled him. He was a student of Pulaski academy and was gaining rapidly in all his studies, and ere he would have passed his eighteenth birthday would have graduated. But again is the adage proven sure commencing, "That death loves a shining mark." His sickness was not long and lingering, but his suffering was great. He sensed the approach of the great messenger, who did not fmd him unprepared. Only a short time ago he gave his heart to God, and united with the M. E. church. He was a member of the Y. P. S. C. E. and Sunday school. Loving hearts and kind friends did everything they knew to do, but he heard the still voice, it was the voice of his God, and quietly the labored breathing grew less and the heart beats ceased their throbs and his spirit sped on glad wings to the arms of Jesus, who waited to carry him over the tide. Funeral services were held at the home, Rev. H. R. Northrop, assisted by Rev. R. A. Whipple, of Central Square, officiating. The floral tributes were very beautiful. A 'wreath of smilax encircled the steel tinted casket, and sweet scented bouquets, love's offering, filled the room with their rich perfume. A beautiful pillow with the class word was given by the members of the graduating class, also another equal in loveliness, the gift of the Sunday school, with his name. A large gathering of people were in attendance. Faces were saddened that were wont to mule, and eyes unused to weeping shed their tears freshly as they gazed for the last time on his face. People lingered with a lack as if loth to believe. Four of his young associates laid him at rest in the cemetery at Dugway. The home is saddened. A father, mother, one sister and one brother wait and listen with grief stricken hearts. There is a longing, and in their anguish their souls cry out unsatisfied. But they do not mourn without hope, for in the bright golden days of the sweet bye and bye, though it be long to wait, they shall meet where God and the angels are.

17087 Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, April 25, 1900 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Susan Phillips Smith - The people of our community were greatly surprised and saddened as the tidings came over the wire that Susan Phillips Smith, wife of Eli T. Smith was dead. About a year ago she began to fail in health and gradually grew weaker both in body and mind. Several physicians were interviewed in regard to her condition but their skill and advice was all to no purpose. Her friends saw that she was failing and advised her to go to a hospital for treatment. After much deliberation she consented to go March 21st to Albany. She had been there only a few days when the doctors pronounced her trouble Addison's disease which is incurable. She lived but a few days after reaching the hospital for on March 29th she peacefully passed away. Mr. Smith and family were well known and highly respected citizens of this place. About two years ago they moved to Oneonta, New York. Mrs. Smith was thoroughly devoted to her family and one great object of her life was to have a happy home. She was an earnest worker in the church and Sunday school and her influence will live on even though she sleeps the sleep that knows no waking. Though we may not understand the province which to us seems so mysterious, the Christian's hope lights the gloom and we bow in submission to the Divine will for "Great and Marvelous are Thy works, just and true are Thy ways." One less on earth, its pains, its sorrow and its toll to share. One less the pilgrim's daily cross to bear. One more the crown of the blest to wear; At home in Heaven. Phillips, Susan Catherine (I52886)

17088 Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, April 26, 1899 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Altmar - Died, in Altmar, April 17, after a brief illness, Mrs. Elias Laney. Mrs. Laney, whose maiden name was Martha Elizabeth Perry, was born in Rome, New York, August 16, 1833. She was one of a family of six children, two sons and four daughters. One brother in California and one in Wilmington, Illinois. A sister, Mrs. Eliza Filkins, died in Pulaski, six years ago. The two remaining sisters have their homes in Illinois. Miss Perry was a member of her father's family in Rome at the time of her marriage to Mr. Laney, March 14, 1852. Mr. and Mrs. Laney came to Albion nearly twenty-five years ago and have lived on a farm, on Pulaski street just outside the corporation line of the village of Altmar. There was born to them a daughter who died when young, also two sons, James W Laney, whose home is in Altmar and G. A. Laney, of Pasadena, California. Mrs. Laney united with the Congregational church at Ahmar on the 2nd day of December 1891, after having entertained a hope in Christ for many years. Her Christian life was exemplary, living a life of prayer and being a faithful reader of the Bible. She scattered smiles over all with whom she came in contact. Her unselfishness was everywhere manifest in consequence of which she exerted a healthful and helpful influence both in her family circle, in her neighborhood and in the church to which she belonged. As was said by the Saviour of another, so may it be said of her: "She hath done what she could." Her works do follow her. On Tuesday morning, April 18th, the funeral was held at her late residence, conducted by her pastor, Rev. C. W. Fifield, after which the remains were taken by her husband and her son James, on board the 11:00 a.m. train from Altmar to Taberg, and were met by a large company of relatives and friends who escorted them to the Valley Cemetery in Lee, Oneida County, where the casket was opened and prayer was offered by Rev. Berry, of Taberg. In our home there falls a shadow, a shadow so dark and wide; For a kind and loving mother has been taken from our side. Death has pressed its icy fingers upon one beautiful brow; At rest in the distant church yard, Our mother is sleeping now. Though we are so very lonely, and deeply feel our loss, 'Tis gain for her who hath so sweetly , for Jesus borne the cross. Perry, Martha Elizabeth (I52784)

Kind Words About A Pulaski Family

EXCELSIOR, Minn., April 17, '95.

MR. EDITOR: I saw in the DEMOCRAT of April 3rd, the notice of the death of Mr. Charles C. Dodge. I had the pleasure of being intimately acquainted with him, as I worked for him on his farm some twenty-five years ago. AndI will say that more honorable and kind hearted people it has never been my pleasure to meet. John and William were then small boys and, of course, were at home. During the time I lived with the family I don't think I ever heard a cross or unkind word pass between them. That is saying a great deal, but it is true. Although wealth and elegance may not exist, yet it is a beautiful home where mutual love and respect rules as it did in that of Mr. Charles Dodge.
