She was born November 16, 1923, in North Syracuse, the daughter of Donald and Dorothy Snow Ladd. She attended Central Square schools. Norma married Wendall "Pete" Vrooman on July 29, 1943. She was employed by GE in Syracuse for 25 years, retiring in 1983. Norma spent her winters in Brooksville, FL from 1983 until 1997. She was a member of the Pulaski Wesleyan Church. Surviving: her husband, Wendall "Pete"; five sons, Erwin R. of Liverpool, Eugene W. of Lutz, FL, Ronald J., Chester L. and Mark T., all of Pulaski, one daughter, JoeAnne VanBrocklin of Sandy Creek; one sister, Norine Waterbury of Pulaski 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Norma was predeceased by one brother, Henry Ladd of Central Square; and two sisters, Phyllis Mellen of Pulaski and Carol Tanner of Redfield. Moonan, age 88, resident of Pulaski passed away Monday at her home. Norma was born August 5, 1932 in West Derby, near Liverpool, England, the daughter of Harold and Florence Moneypenny Cain. She graduated from secondary school in England. Norma was married to Kenneth E. Moonan on November 6, 1953 and he passed away April 29, 1978. She and her husband operated Moonan’s Shoe Store for 16 years from 1961 until 1977. Norma also worked for several local area retail stores: the Pulaski Department Store, Harris Department Store, Fat Nancy’s Tackle Shop, and Lady Di’s Bridal. Norma was a member of several bowling leagues in Pulaski and ladies’ leagues at the Elm’s Golf Course. She also pitched horseshoes at NEOS County Horseshoes in Pulaski. Norma was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Cain, formerly of England and Australia. | 17607 | Norma Jean "Norma" Thomas Schell Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Norma Schell, 91, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 in Inverness, Florida with her daughter, Jaime, at her side. Norma was born in Childress Texas July 24th, 1922 near the family farm, to the late William Henry Dee (W.H.D.) and the late Ruby Leona Daughtry Thomas. She graduated from West Texas State - Canyon, Class of 1944, majoring in Art, with a minor in Geology also earning a teaching certification in education. While in college, Norma met her future husband, Norbert Schell, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at a USO tea in while he was stationed at a U.S. Army Air Corp base in West Texas. Following graduation from Canyon, Norma enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Norma and Norbert were married in uniform, September 25th 1944. The wedding took place in Raleigh North Carolina, in the Catholic Bishop's Chapel. After the war, Norma and Norbert lived in Milwaukee briefly until they moved to Menominee WI where Norbert attended Stout State College. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Stout in Industrial Arts, using his GI Bill benefits. In 1950, the family moved to Hartford, Wisconsin where Norbert taught at the high school and Norma was well known for the artwork she did for the nuns, school and St. Killian Parish. In 1964, when the family moved to West Allis, Norma then started her teaching career at Tess Corners Elementary School, in the Muskego-Norway School District, teaching 4th and 5th grades. After moving to Sheboygan, in 1968, Norma taught 5th grade for a number of years in Howards Grove, retiring from Northview Elementary School. Over the years since retiring, Norma recalled fondly the faculty and staff of Northview, especially fellow 5th grade teacher, the late Elmer Koppelmann. Norbert and Norma also built the family home on Lake Michigan at the end of Orchard Beach Road. This property is now part of the Christopher Gardens. In retirement, Norbert and Norma traveled the country in their motor home, as well as taking historical tours and classes in Europe, especially in Poland through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Norma called herself 'Polish by Marriage,' and admired the Polish people and loved the country. She sent 9 of her grandchildren to study at the Catholic University at Lublin-Poland through the UW-Milwaukee program. Always an artist and gardener at heart, Norma was a former member of the Kettle Karvers, many doll clubs, several art groups and SCARTA. She will be remembered for her woodcarvings, cement sculptures, watercolor paintings, needle sculptures - many of which she donated to local charity events, especially Sheboygan Service Club, SPEF and Pigeon River PTA. She loved gardening, often saying 'a person could not have too many flowers or enough trees'. Her English cottage style gardens on Highland Terrace in Sheboygan and Milwaukee as well as her native plant garden in Florida often attracted walkers and fellow gardeners to see what was blooming. After Norbert's passing in 1995, Norma served annually with Global Volunteers on teams in Romania, Ukraine, Poland, Italy, Ireland, Ecuador, Peru, St Lucia, Crete and Hungary, many times taking family members with her. Starting in 1995, Norma spent the winters at her second home, The Woodland Lutheran Camp, Montverde Florida, where she made many good friends, especially Nancy Houde, and found a loving and supportive community. After the Woodlands closed, she moved with many of her friends to Red Oaks in Bushnell Florida. Norma is survived by: daughter - Jan (William James) Tighe of Pulaski, New York and their children, Thomas (Alyson) their children Luke and Nora of Pulaski, NY; Katie (Justin) Frontuto of Elmira, NY; Erin (Jeff) Tyo of Syracuse, NY; and Rachel (Andre) Norris of Syracuse, NY; Daughter - Jody (Robert) Goswitz of Hartland WI, and their children Robert of Minneapolis, MN and Andrea of Fort Atkinson, WI; daughter - Jaime (Dr. James) Hanson of Milwaukee and their children Tyler (Erica) of New Haven, CT; Evan (Angela) of De Pere, WI; and Alex (girlfriend, Holly) of Denmark, WI; daughter - Jacqueline (Dr. Terry) Radtke and son Richard all of Milwaukee; Grandson - Samuel Thomas Schell-Olsen of Cape Cod/Dayton Ohio; Daughter-in-law Pauline Schell, and her children, Dustin Schell, Matthew Schell, Rosemary (Benedict Jiskra) and their children - Lucy and Jack, all of Cumberland, Wisconsin. She had lived in Altmar most of her life, moving to Pulaski in 2000. She married Simeon Walker on July 29, 1950, in St. Mary's Church, Altmar. He died March 3, 1994. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church until its closing, then was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church. Surviving are three sons, Gary S. and Larry W., both of Williamstown, and Terry L., Altmar; two daughters, Deborah McNitt, Mexico, and Linda G. Wicks, Cicero; a brother, Leon Robert Wheeler, Pulaski; a sister, Rosemary Johnson, Altmar, 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Norma was loved beyond words by her adoring children: Richard Bardeschewski, Jr.(Nancy), Donna LoDolce (James), Susan Mooney (Tom Chapel), Thomas Bardeschewski (Jackie) and David Bardeschewski (Kathy). Norma and Richard together had 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great- great grandchildren who they loved immensely. They were equally adored by nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. Norma was full of compassion; she had an undeniable love for her dogs. She and Richard always welcomed family and friends at the home they built 68 years ago on South Sandy Pond. He served in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. Norman married Sandra Kenyon on September 30, 1953 and she passed away on January 4, 2005. He owned and operated a dairy farm with his wife for 55 years. Bentley, 63, prominent member of the Oswego County Bar and a practicing lawyer in Oswego for many years, died at his home, 61 West Seneca street, shortly after noon Wednesday. He was stricken with apoplexy and was dead when physicians arrived. News of his death will come as a great shock to his legion of friends. He had been in good health and was at his office as usual this morning, leaving for his home about 12:30 o'clock. Shortly after his arrival, he was stricken. Mr. Bentley was born in Pulaski on July 1, 1868, and after attending school there went to Amherst College, where he was graduated in 1892. He was an honor student at Amherst and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Upsilon fraternity. He attended Albany Law School, graduating in 1894 and being admitted to the bar the same year. He started the practice of law in this city, for many years being associated with the late S. M. Coon and becoming a member of the firm of Coon & Bentley. In recent years, Mr. Bentley had been a member of the film of Bentley & O'Connor, which was formed after the death of Thomas H. King previous to which time the firm was known as King, Bentley & O'Connor. Mr. Bentley was prominent in the legal, business, civic and social affairs in this city. He was recorder of the city in 1906, 1907, 1908 and 1909 and a member of the Department of Education from 1918 to 1924. At the time of his death he was attorney, and had been since the death of the late Udella Bartlett, for the Oswego County Savings Bank. He was also attorney for the _ Building and Loan Association. He was a member of the Fortnightly Club, the City Club, Oswego County Club and Aeonian Lodge, 679, F. & A.M, in which he was raised in 1902. He was also one of the prominent members of the Congregational church and had occupied, at various times, many positions in the church society. He had been a member of the Board of Trustees and at the time of his death was chairman of the _share Committee. He had been ill for many months after suffering a stroke. For some time past there had been indications of mental trouble as he had been talking strangely. Mr Spicer ended his life with a shot gun, his wife and grandaughter found him lying on the ground with the shotgun beside him. He was taken to the hospital and lingered some time ( this has been edited for content). Investigation revealed that it was death by shotgun while mentally deranged. The deceased was the son of Daniel L and Nellie More Spicer and was born in the Town of Amboy. He was a very prosperous farmer. Surviving, besides his widow Nellie L.
