Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, November 16, 1904 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - William Bliss, an old and well known resident of this village, died at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday morning. He was about 77 years old, and had been living alone in the old Bliss House Block and fell down stairs a short time ago. While he sustained severe bruises about the head in various parts of the body as a result of the fall, he was able to be about his room until last Tuesday at about 10 o'clock, when he was taken suddenly ill and sank gradually until the end came. Mr. Bliss has been a resident of this village for many years and the number of years ago conducted the Bliss House. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Moore, of Claremont, New Hampshire, who was in town to attend the funeral, which was held Saturday. His wife died many years ago. Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, November 16, 1904 Pulaski Democrat - Augustus Brown Twitchell died at the home of Augustus Learned after a long and painful illness. He was well known, one of the oldest and best known families in this location. His father died twelve years ago on the Brown (later Twitchell) homestead where so many of us have enjoyed many pleasant hours, and which was settled, over eighty years ago by his mother's father, Daniel Brown, and remained in the family until recent years. His grandfather, Benjamin Winch, came here as a civil engineer surveying the land in this location for the first time, and as our history shows, was the first white man to settle in Pulaski. His great grandfather Brown was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He leaves a mother, Mrs. Pauline Twitchell, two sisters, Mrs. E. A. Reeves and Mrs. D. S. Mr. and Mrs. Hemens about six months ago removed to this town from Sackets Harbor. Besides the parents and husband, she leaves a daughter, Mrs. Everett VanAlstyne of Syracuse. Those present at the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Eve Van Alstyne and son, of Syracuse; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Manwarren, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Manwarren, of Texas; Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Graves, of Parish; Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Hardy, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Box and B. W. Box, of Pulaski. The burial was at Sand Hill cemetery. The floral offerings of smilax, carnations and chrysanthemums were beautiful and numerous. Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, November 14, 1906 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Sylvester Nobles - On Friday morning, November 9, occurred the death of Sylvester Nobles, who for nearly fifty years had been a resident of this village. Mr. Nobles had been in poor health for a number of years, but for several weeks had been alarmingly ill, suffering intensely from Bright's disease. Deceased was about 69 years old and is survived by a widow and two daughters, Mrs. Ezekiel Casterline, of Pulaski, and one living in Cato; also two sisters, Mrs. Julia Howlett, of Sandy Creek, and Mrs. Nancy Wilcox, of Wisconsin. Prayer was offered at the home, Monday, at half past ten and at the Baptist church, of which Mr. Nobles was a member, at eleven o'clock, Rev. A. I. Ehle officiating. The remains were taken to Ellisburg for interment. He commenced to learn the tinsmith trade when 17 years old of Mr. Cronk, of Sandy Creek, then went to Adams and finished his trade which he followed for 52 years. He was married at Mannsville to Betsey Plummer, April 10, 1865, by Rev. Mr. Hall. He was a member of the Ringgold Fire Company, 15 years, of the A. O. U. W. 32 years, also of the Baptist Church 40 years. He was confined to his bed seven weeks with cancer of stomach, passing away the 9th of November, at half past two. He is survived by a widow and two children, Mrs. Ezekiel Casterline, of this place, and Mrs. Lemuel La Buff, of Cato, also two sisters, Mrs. Julia Howlett, of this place and Mrs. Nancy Wilcox, of Wisconsin; one half-brother, J. | 17706 | Nunda, N.Y. - Paul S. Burdett of Nunda, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Oct. 20, 2010). He was born May 24, 1928 in Hornellsville, the fourth child of Joel D. Burdett and Polly Allen Burdett. He graduated from Alfred Almond Central School, attended Cornell University and served his country in the Army Air Corps for three years. He married Betty J. Franklin on June 26, 1949 in Bowie, Texas. They were married 61 years. Paul worked for N.Y.S.E.G. for 37 years, retiring in 1988 as East Central area manager for customer service. He was active in church and community affairs for many years. He was an ordained elder in the Reformed Church in Chatham, and the Otego Presbyterian Church in Otego. Along with his wife, Betty, he served as youth leader for jr. and sr. highs in Chatham. For many years he taught electric programs to 4-H clubs. He was president of the Oneonta Rotary Club, the Oneonta Chamber of Commerce and Central N.Y. Heart Assoc. He was a member of the Board of Directors of A.O. Fox Hosp. for many years and served as chairman of the board for one term and co-chair of a multi-million dollar campaign to build an addition onto the hospital. Paul's enthusiasm for Rotary led his co-workers to christen him "Mr. Rotary." He exemplified the Rotary motto, "service above self." After retiring and returning to Western New York, Paul served as president of the Nunda Rotary Club, delivered food for the community food pantry and was on the founding committee of the Livingston County Habitat for Humanity. Paul was an expert woodworker and loved working on his various homes, building furniture and growing vegetables for family and friends. Paul loved his wife and family, and the high point of his summers was the Burdett Reunion, where generations of brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins gathered for a day of food, fun and fellowship. Paul is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Paul; grandsons, Eric, Forrest and Liam; three brothers, Joel D., Donald S. of Hornell, James (Anna) of Geneseo; one sister, Margaret Drake of Hornell; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Hobart and Douglas; and sister, Marianna. Calling hours are from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Oakland Wesleyan Church with funeral immediately following, Pastor Paul Palmer will officiate. Burial in Rural Cemetery in Hornell. Memorial donations may be made to the Oakland Wesleyan Church or the American Heart Association of Central New York, Utica. Arrangements are with the Mann Funeral Home, Nunda Paul grew to adulthood on the small family farm on Bald Hill. He attended Elementary school at the one room schoolhouse of District #9 through the eighth grade. He attended High school at Alfred-Almond Central School. Attended Cornell University for one year before enlisting in the Army Air Corps in 1946, as soon as he reached the age of eighteen. Served in the Finance Dept. of the Air Corps until discharged in June 1949. At which time he married and moved back to Hornell, as Paul prepared to return to Cornell University to continue his education with the assistance of the G.I. Bill. After one semester and due to a very difficult pregancy that Betty was experiencing, they decided to return to Bowie,TX, where Betty's mother was a nurse in the Bowie Hospital. Paul went to work for Betty's uncle G.W. Menasco in the Roofing and Construction business covering northeastern Texas and southern Oklahoma. Later Paul worked for a few months in grocery stores in Wichita Falls,TX until the family moved back to Hornell,NY, where Paul was offered a job with the New York State Electric and Gas Corp. to start on February 1, 1951. They lived with Paul's mother and father for a short time until they could rent a small apartment in Almond,NY. Their landlord in Almond was Mr. and Mrs "Tinker" Burdick, a wonderful older couple who doted over Paul Jr. and did many things to make life easier for the family. In May 1952 Paul was promoted to a position which required them to move to Plattsburg,NY. From there they moved for the company to Chatham, Binghamton, Plattsburg, and finally to Oneonta,NY. Paul retired from NYSEG on April 12, 1988 after serving in several management positions. After retirement Paul helped form the Executive Service Corps of Otsego and Delaware Counties. The purpose of which is to help not-for-profit agencies and small businesses with management problems which are hampering the success of the agency or business. During the course of his business career and since retiring Paul has served in many community service agencies either as a volunteer worker or member of the governing board. Some of the organizations he has served is the Boy Scouts, 4-H Clubs, County Extension Services, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Hospital Board of Directors, United Way, Cancer Society, and the American Heart Assn. | Burdett, Paul Shelby (I5311)

He graduated from Altmar-Parish High School in 1944. Dale was married to Carol Mowers on June 16, 1998. He had been previously married to Dorothy Phillips for 38 years, and Doris Gates both of whom predeceased him. Dale owned and operated a dairy farm for over 50 years. He was a member of Lighthouse Church in Mexico. He was first married to Maggie LaFleur. He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Minnie Dingman, three daughters Bertha, Hattie and Anna, and two sons, Cornelius and Burt. | 17741 | obit May 2, 1945 "Sandy Creek News", Oswego Co, NY Mrs Jennie L Dingman, 86, widow of the late Charles Dingman a former resident of this community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Florence Gerow, Mohawk St, Oswego, on April 25, 1945. Mrs Dingman had made her home with her daughter the past four years. Funeral services were held April 27 from the Weston Woodard funeral home, Sandy Creek with the Rev. Herbert Harrison officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs Dingman was born November 4, 1858 in the town of Sandy Creek, the daughter of John and Fannie Davenport Lindo. Her early life was passed in this community where she obtained her education. In 1879 she was married to Charles Dingman, son of Peter and Hannah Shufelt Dingman. Mr Dingman passed away 4 years ago. To them were born four children, Mrs Gerow, Earl Dingman of Lacona, and two sons, Erwin who died in 1910 and Merle who died in 1931. The funeral was held Sunday at the Weston and Woodard funeral home, Sandy Creek. The Rev. Robert Bird officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery. She was the daughter of Charles and Jennie Lindo Dingman and was born in the Town of Sandy Creek, where her parents were lifelong residents. She was married to William Gerow. They lived at one time on the Smartville road, in the present Willard Brown home and moved 38 years ago to Oswego. Mr. Gerow died Oct. 26, 1951. Mrs. Gerow is survived by a son, Gerald Gerow of Utica; a brother, Earl Dingman of Mattydale, and several nieces and nephews. One daughter, Mildred, died before her parents death. He was born May 20, 1950 in Oswego, NY the son of Lawrence and Gladys Hager. Larry was a veteran of Vietnam, a member and on the Executive Committee of the Hammondsport American Legion and a lifetime member of the DAV. Surviving are his wife Gloria Novak Hager of Bath, daughter Jennifer Hager of Hammondsport and companion Deborah Copp of Hammondsport. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 1pm at the Bath National Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded. She was a lifelong resident of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1949. She worked for the RCA Plant in Mountain Top until her retirement. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre, its Altar and Rosary Society, the RCA Nipper Club, and the PAV, Plains. She was preceded in death by her brother, Valerian, on March 24, 1952. Surviving are a sister, Jean and her husband, Joseph (Chuck) Ornoski of Plains; a brother, Raymond and his wife, Pearl Slovinski of Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark Street, Plains, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre. | 17748 | OBITUARIES Jun 4, 2002 0 BERTRAND JAMES LAMBERT Bert Lambert died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Manorhouse at Irving Park.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. The son of William and Mary McGurl Lambert, he was born in Watertown, N.Y. on November 7, 1913. Educated in LaFargeville, N.Y., he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and served mainly in Northern California doing road building projects near the Feather River. Mr. Lambert was employed by Niagara Mohawk in Watertown, N.Y. In 1943, he became a farmer in Adams and later in Pulaski, N.Y., where he was well known for his modern farming methods and large acreage devoted to raising potatoes. Bert enjoyed his friends, fishing and hunting and was an avid reader. Following his retirement, he spent winters in Punta Gorda, Fla. and summers in Pulaski, N.Y. Mr. Lambert moved to Greensboro in May 2001. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lantier Lambert, son, Joseph Michael Lambert, sisters, Dora and Patricia and brother, Frank. Mr. Lambert is survived by his sister, Emily L. Dupree of Watertown, N.Y.; his wife, Shirley Laveck Lambert of Punta Gorda, Fla. Mr. Lambert is also survived by his daughters, Judith (Mrs. H. Robert) Martineau of Greensboro and Paula (Mrs. Raymond)Naramore of Webster, N.Y. and sons, Francis Lambert of Upland, Calif. and Daniel Lambert of Santa Rosa, Calif. He leaves 16 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and was much adored by his 19 great-grandchildren. He was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church, Greensboro and in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the St. Paul the Apostle Building Fund, Greensboro, N.C. or to a favorite charity. The family extends great thanks to the staff of Manorhouse at Irving Park, who have treated Bert with great care, respect, kindness and love. A brother, Charles Douglas Ames, died before her. Born June 26, 1908, in Morristown, daughter of Charles and Ina Chase Ames, she graduated from Sandy Creek High School and Houghton College, where she got her teaching degree. She taught school for 25 years at Barnes Corners, Redfield, and Stillwater, and retired from Orwell School. She married Harrison E. Porter June 26, 1952. The couple lived all their married life on Demott St., Lacona. Mr Porter died November 7, 1981, at the age of 87. After his death Mrs. Porter moved to 8358 Harwood Drive to live with Mrs. Dicia Whipple.
