Dorothy was born August 19, 1929 in Pulaski, the daughter of Reuben and Flora Shepard Gregory. She graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1947 and was married to Lester Poole on May 14, 1948. Dorothy was a member and director of the Friendship Shop in Sandy Creek and a member of the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church. Surviving are two sons, Paul L. (Jean) Poole of Pulaski and Fredrick A. (Marilyn) Poole of Lacona, one daughter, Darlene (William) Bates of Pulaski, six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Lester who died January 1, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 12th, at the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church, 6118 N. Main Street, Sandy Creek, with spring burial in Richland Cemetery. Dorothy was born October 19, 1945, in Syracuse, the daughter of Leonard and Mabel Prosser Yaddow. She graduated from Syracuse High Schools. Dorothy was married to James Lacelle on June 26, 1982, and he passed away October 12, 2021. She was a member of the Vorea Community Church in Orwell. She also volunteered for Samaritan Purse through Billy Graham and traveled to Rwanda for Operation Christmas Child. Surviving are her caregivers, Rob and Debbie Martin of Orwell, friends Karen Yerdon, Ted and Patty Beattie, Patty Jennings, Karin Nemier, Sandy Levack, Brian Levack and family, Bob and Lorraine Stawicki, brother in-law, John (Eleanor) Lacelle of Florida and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1971. Doug was married to Carrie Dawley on May 31, 1986. He was last employed by Fat Nancy’s Tackle Shop in Pulaski. He had also worked for Fulton Companies, Schoeller Technical Papers both in Pulaski and Blount’s Lumber Co. in Lacona. Doug was a member of the Snobelt 700 Bowling Club. He previously bowled in several leagues in Pulaski. He also played softball for Wilson’s Bar in Richland. Surviving are his wife, Carrie, two sons, Tyler Gayne (companion Sydney Susino) of Oswego and Justin McVie of Georgia, mother in-law, Judy Spencer of Pulaski, sister in-law Cathy (Steven) Shufelt of North Carolina, nephew Cody Dailey and niece Mickenzie Dailey both of North Carolina. Doug married Melissa Pratt on October 5, 1985. Doug worked retail for 20 years at Ames Department Store in Pulaski and Oswego, manager at Real Deals in Pulaski for three years, Home Depot in Watertown for three years, and custodian at Jefferson Rehabilitation Center for three years. He was a member of Park United Methodist Church for 46 years. Doug is survived by his wife of 32 years, Melissa, three sons, James (Marshelle) of Tucson, AZ, Brian (Jenna) of New Haven, Kyle of Scriba, seven grandchildren, Isaiah, Alexander, Benjamin, Dalana, Jamie-Louisa, Karsen, and Conner. Ultimately she moved to Florida in the mid 1990’s. Eddie was with Hewlett Packard for 25 years retiring in 2000. After retiring from HP she enjoyed working as a real-estate agent in Florida with her husband, Bill. She was a Life Master in Bridge, enjoyed travel, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Eddie also had a great passion for learning about wine; she was the chairman of the Vintner’s Committee at Hunter’s Green Country Club. Her favorite wine was Pinot Noir. Eddie is survived by her husband of 39 years, William; sons, Mark Muench, Bradley Scott Muench and his wife Vonda; daughters, Kimberly Muench and her husband Tom Thomas, Kristin French and her husband Steven; step-daughter, Nancy Rody and her husband Tim; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. | 17908 | Obituary of Eleanor P. Trendell Eleanor Zufelt Trendell, age 86, resident of Oswego, passed away Sunday at Seneca Hill Manor in Volney. Eleanor was born to Lewis and Frances Price Zufelt on July 9, 1933 in Pulaski. She grew up with three brothers on the Zufelt Farm in the Town of Sandy Creek. She descended from early settlers of the Pulaski area, Colonel Rufus Price of the Continental Army and Benjamin Winch who established the first hotel on the Salmon River in Pulaski. She graduated from Pulaski Central School in 1950. Eleanor attended Syracuse University for her freshman year and was married to Frank Trendell in June 1951 at the St. James Episcopal Church, Pulaski. While raising her family of five children, she studied for her career in nutrition and graduated from Buffalo State College with a B.S. degree in 1973. As a Registered Dietician, she was employed by the NYS Department of Mental Hygiene in the Poughkeepsie area and in Albany, where she also served with the Dept. of Social Services and the Office for the Aging from which she retired in 1988. Eleanor was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Pulaski, the Tuesday Study club and a board member of the Pulaski Historical Society. Surviving are her husband, Frank, her children, John (Mary) Trendell of East Aurora, NY, James Trendell (companion, Karen) of Pleasant Valley, NY, Robert of West Monroe, NY, Joan Trendell of Indianapolis, IN and Linda Trendell (companion Russ) of Houston, TX, seven grandchildren, Maggie (Tom VanLee), Molly (Blake Nation), Marta (Kevin Kaighin), Jason, Jeffrey, Philip (Lesley) and Rebecca (Zachary Richards), three great-grandchildren, Claire Eleanor and Natalie Rose Trendell and William Oliver Trendell. Eric was born June 28, 1960 in Baltimore, MD, the son of Donald and Barbara Stevens White. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1979 and he attended a technical school for plumbing in Oneonta. He loved the outdoors and frequently enjoyed local fishing. Eric had a special interest in eagles. He will be greatly missed by his family and longtime friends. He will be remembered and missed by the ACT Team that worked with him. He suffered a lifetime of mental illness which impacted his whole adult life. In spite of his difficulties, he had love for his family and friends. He cared about others needs and would do what he could to help them. Evelyn was born September 15, 1933 in Pulaski, the daughter of Arnold and May B. Nicholson Davis. She graduated from Pulaski Academy High School as Valedictorian in 1951. She graduated from Syracuse University in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and her master’s degree in Library Science in 1967. Evelyn taught music at Grant Middle School for 30 years, retiring in 1988. She also worked for 13 years as the Box Office Treasurer at the Country Playhouse in Fayetteville, NY. She was a member of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra where she played flute and piccolo for 11 years. She was also a member of the Pulaski Civic Club. Evelyn was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association. She was membership chairman of the Oswego County Retired Teachers Association and treasurer, membership chairman and historian for the Onondaga County Retired Teachers Association. Evelyn was also a member of the Pulaski Grange #730 and the Pulaski Historical Society and the Northern Federation of Women’s Club where she was treasurer. She also held memberships with many sorority and fraternal organizations including, Delta Kappa Gamma, Phi Mu, Sigma Alpha Iota, Phi Kappa Phi, Pie Delta Theta, and Beta Signa. Evelyn is survived by several cousins and many good friends, and Tracy (O’Connor) Drake, her personal assistant for the past 15 years, a former student who became as close to her as a daughter. He was born in 1940, in Fulton, a son to the late Everett O. Hubbard and Betty (Horace) Bullard. Bud was a veteran of the United State Marine’s Corp., serving from 1959-1963. He worked as a Hannibal Village Police Officer, special Deputy with the Oswego County Sheriff’s, regional manager of Green Tree Credit Corp and recently has been working for Burritt Motor’s, in Oswego. Bud enjoyed traveling annually to Myrtle Beach with family. His life was filled with family and friends and loved spending time with his grandchildren and dog, Thelma. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Hubbard. She enjoyed knitting, making quilts, and was a member of the VFW Ladies' Auxiliary in Lacona, NY. He attended school in Pulaski, for a time in a one-room schoolhouse, and then entered St. Paul’s School (1951) and Yale University (1955). He served in the United States Army (1955-57). Following his service, Doug attended Syracuse University College of Law (1961) and upon graduation he joined the Syracuse law firm Hiscock, Cowie, Bruce, Lee & Mawhinney (predecessor of Barclay Damon, LLP) where he practiced law as a named partner for over 40 years. In 1964, Doug was elected to the New York State Senate where he was honored to serve for 20 years. He sponsored major legislation in housing, criminal justice, court reform and economic development before his retirement in 1984. Doug continued to be active in politics advising many local, state, and federal campaigns. In 2003, President George W. Bush nominated, and the U.S. Senate confirmed Doug as United States Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador where he served until to 2006. As Ambassador, he was highly regarded by diplomats as an affable and capable foreign service officer who always looked after America’s interest. Doug also had a variety of business interests and served on many corporate boards, among them Syracuse Supply, as Chair of the Board (1988 to 2003) and Key Bank as General Counsel and Secretary (1971 to 1989). Additionally, Doug was committed to his community. He served on many University Boards including the Board of Syracuse University as Chair from 1992-1998. He was also President of the Syracuse Metropolitan Development Association from 1991 to 2003. While Doug’s career took him far and wide, his heart belonged to the North Country. He was the 7th generation to live on the family farm in Pulaski, the place he loved the most. He was a tireless advocate for his hometown. Doug played a leading role fundraising for the Pulaski Fire Company, the Northern Oswego County Ambulance Service and the Pulaski Health Center. Doug recognized the importance of tourism in the area and could often be heard saying that the Salmon River and Lake Ontario were the premier fisheries in the country. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sara “Dee Dee” (Seiter) Barclay; his five children Katie (Jim) Coyne, David (Alexandra) Barclay, Dorothy Chynoweth, Susan Barclay and Will (Margaret) Barclay; and ten grandchildren. Helen was married to Dr. Thomas Bishop in September 1944; he passed away in November 1975. In 1955, Helen started the visual arts program at the Minoa School, where she worked for one year before returned to full-time homemaking. Helen remained an artist throughout her life. A devoted equestrian, Helen was a member of the Calvary Club in Manlius, NY. He joined the U.S Marine Corps in 1947 and served for 21 years including Korea 1951, receiving the Purple Heart, and Vietnam in 1966. Jim was retired in 1968 as 1st Sgt. and 1st Lt. He was a life member of the Marine Corps League for over 50 years, the Lions Club for 32 years, Life member of the VFW, American Legion, Purple Heart Association, Disabled American Veterans; as well as other military organizations. Jim enjoyed helping others and volunteered for years in the Emergency area of Pinehurst, NC hospital. He was the owner of Ye Olde Towne Realty and co-owner of Upstate Automotive Supplies. She passed away at St. Luke Faxton Hospital in Utica after a long illness, with her husband and children by her side. Jeanne was born November 4, 1950, in Oswego, the daughter of Willard and Frances Jacobs Ellis. Jeanne grew up, the youngest of three children, on her family's dairy farm, Riverview Farm in Altmar. She enjoyed following her dad around, swimming in the Salmon River and helping in the barn. As a teen, Jeanne enjoyed playing sports, playing the clarinet in marching band and playing the piano at church, starting at 12 years old and continuing until January 2022. As she grew, Jeanne prayed to God that he would send her a man as wonderful as her father, Willard. Jeanne met Cregg in high school and as they were dating, she asked God for a sign that he was the one. She looked down on the ground and saw a nickel. She picked it up and handed it to Cregg saying, “There is my sign. I am buying you for a nickel.” Jeanne was married to Cregg Stanton on September 19, 1970 and enjoyed the most dedicated and beautiful love affair for nearly 52 years. Jeanne graduated from APW High School in 1968, earned her Associates from OCC and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Oswego. She went back to college as a non-traditional student showing her children and family that they could do anything they wanted to. She was employed by the APW School district for 20 years, teaching 2nd and 3rd grade at Williamstown, Altmar, and Parish Elementary Schools. She was also a dental hygienist for Dr. Dunton in Pulaski for several years. Jeanne was a member of the Altmar Riverside Methodist Church and played her favorite hymns on the piano. Jeanne loved teaching and her family. She was quick witted with a practical sense of what life was about. She was the strongest prayer warrior and never wavered in her love and faith in God. Jeanne was active while her children were in school and volunteered on many committees. As much as she loved her children, she adored her beloved grandchildren. They were the light of her life. He was previously employed as an Assistant High School Principal at Paul V. Moore High School in Central Square for three years, and a Physical Education teacher at Sandy Creek School District for 15 years. He wrestled on the SUNY Delhi National Championship Team, as well as for SUNY Cortland. During his teaching career, Jeff enjoyed coaching wrestling and football. As an athletic director, he embodied good sportsmanship and athletic integrity. Jeff loved his family, especially his wife and three sons. He enjoyed supporting his sons’ athletic and academic endeavors, as well as spending time hunting and fishing with them. Jeff epitomized kindness and respect. "Foot" Ossont, of Big Moose, NY, beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, went to rest with his lord on July 23, 2018 at his home after losing a hard-fought cancer battle with his loving family by his side. Jeff was born in Rome, NY on June 18, 1961, a son of Robert and Jean Cooper Ossont. He attended Westmoreland Central School and graduated with the class of 1980. Jeff worked on area farms as a teen, then for Mohawk Meats and also Smith Packing. Jeffery was united in marriage to Veronica A. Britton on May 8,1982 at Bartlett Baptist church in Rome. In 1983, the couple relocated to Big Moose where Jeff was the caretaker and bartender of the Big Moose Inn, meeting numerous customers from all over the world, leading to great friendships he still held dear. Jeff is known for his great personality, sense of humor, lending hands, a real “class act”, people would say. In 1993, Jeff became an employee of the Town of Webb Department of Public Works, only just retiring in June after 25 years. Jeffery has been a member of his local fire departments since age 16 and just received recognition for his 35 years of service with the Big Moose Fire Company. He was a current commissioner representing Town of Webb Fire District #1 and has been for the past 16 years. Foot was a diehard Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed NASCAR, attending numerous games and races through the years. One of Foot’s greatest joys was “yachting” in North Bay on Big Moose Lake with his best friend and wife Vicki, family and friends. Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Vicki of 36 years; his children, Jason of Old Forge and Jesse and her husband, Lance Hoffert of Woodgate; two cherished grandchildren, Adrienne and Triton; his parents Robert and Jean Ossont of Oriskany; his mother in law, Dorothy Britton of Rome; his siblings, Robert and Sherry Ossont of Mount Morris; Charles and Kathy Ossont of Appleton, WI; Guy and Nancy Ossont of Westmorland; David and Charlene Ossont of Carmichael, CA; Dennis Ossont of Norwich, CT; Joy and Steven Mientkiewicz of Rushford; Steven and Laura Ossont of Westmoreland; two brothers in law and sisters in law, John and Kathy Jo Britton of Rome and Kimberly and Daniel Charchian of Bossier City, LA and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and one great great niece. Joan was very gifted she could paint and carve stunning pieces. She had a passion for crocheting (which she referred to as hooking), creating beautiful blankets and doilies for her family and friends. She will be remembered for being kindhearted, loving nature, having an extremely funny sense of humor, and an amazing love of animals. Mostly, she will be remembered for the way she loved and cherished her family and being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who brought such happiness to all our lives. We will miss her words of wisdom, homemade donuts, and apple pie but we will carry all the wonderful memories she created in our hearts. He was self-employed as an electrician for many years as well as managing the Maple Manor Nursing facility in Richland. He owned a laundromat and several apartment buildings. John was an active member of the Pulaski Lions Club and Christ Our Light Parish (formerly St. John’s Catholic Church). A lifelong car and motorcycle enthusiast, he enjoyed a pastime rebuilding vintage models. In his later years, he took pleasure in cooking, gardening, and exploring the country with his longtime companion Tracey DeForest. A devoted father, and soon-to-be grandfather, his pride and joy were his son Keith R. Hollis and daughter Mackenzie (Hollis) Frederick, and no destination was too far to be present for important events and celebrations.
