18166 Olivier Michel changed his name to Olivier Taillon. The Taillon (Tyo) f amilies says he immigrated to Beaupre, Quebec and lived there in 1667.

Olivier Michel was born Etienne Michel, twin son of Giles Michel and hi s wife Barbe Emard Michel. He was born in France in late 1645. On or a bout December 5, 1645, one of the twins, Olivier died and was buried in L aRochelle, France. The surviving twin, Etienne was later renamed Olivi er.

On August 10, 1647, Giles Michel made a will leaving everything to his w ife, Barbe Emard Michel. He also requested that the first name of his o nly surviving son, Etienne, be changed to his deceased twin's name, Oli vier. Giles died shortly after.

Barbe remarried to Olivier LeTardif on May 21, 1648 at the church of Sa int-Bartheleme de LaRochelle. They, along with 2 year old Olivier, sai led to Canada in the Fall of 1648. Young Olivier received the sacramen t of Confirmation at Chateau-Richer on February 2, 1660 under the name o f Olivier Tardif. It is believed that Barbe, Olivier LeTardif, and you ng Olivier resided in the Quebec, Canada area. Barbe mothered several m ore children after her arrival in New France. The baptisms of Barbe-De lphine, Charles, and Guillaume Tardif are recorded at Quebec.

Barbe died around 1659. Olivier LeTardif apparently died within a few y ears. On April 30, 1662, Olivier Michel was entrusted to the guardians hip of his uncle, Zacharie Cloutier, and later on to this half-sister, B arbe-Delphine and her husband, Jacques Cauchon. They had married on No vember 23, 1661 at Chateau-Richer. (This seems odd as Olivier was old er than his half-sister.)

After the death of Olivier LeTardif, his land was divided among his chi ldren, Charles, Guillaume, Barbe-Delphine, and his step-son, Olivier Mi chel. On November 24, 1674, Marie-Madeleine Cauchon, age 16, married O livier Michel, age 25, at the church of Chateau-Richer. They lived for a bout 7 or 8 years at Chateau-Richeau.

It is uncertain when, but for some unknown reason, after his marriage t o Marie-Madeleine, Olivier changed his surname. He neither kept his na tural father's name, nor did he take his step-father's name. He chose " Taillon".

Tanquay's and Jette's genealogical dictionaries (information taken from C atholic Church records) list this as "The origin of the name Taillon." I t is unlikely (but unknown) that Taillon was a surname in France before t his family migrated to the Quebec, Canada area.

TAILLON / TYO NAME Family Roots from France -to Canada -to the United States Information quoted obtained from Carol (Tyo) Ladue of Massena, NY, and used with her permission. "The surname Tyo was changed from the French spelling, Taillon, sometime after 1671. Both are pronounced "Tie-o". Taillon was not the original name either. It was Michel! Between 1642 and 1647 Giles Michel, and his wife Barbe Emard Michel (daugher of Jean Emard and Marie Bineau) brought five children into the world. All were born in France. Antoine died in infancy. Marie (baptized on November 19, 1643) also died in infancy. Olivier and Etienne, twins, were born in late 1645. On or about December 5, 1645 one of the twins, Olivier died and was buried in LaRochelle. The surviving twin, Etienne, was later renamed Olivier. Jeanne (baptized at the Church of Barthelemi, Feb. 21, 1647) died and was buried on June 15, 1647. On August 10, 1647, Giles Michel, made a will leaving everything to Barbe. He also requested that the first name of his only surviving son, Etienne, be changed to his deceased twins name, Olivier. Giles died shortly after. Barbe remarried to Olivier Le Tardif on May 21, 1648 at the church of Saint-Bartheleme de LaRochelle. They along with 2 year old Olivier, sailed to Canada in the fall of 1648. Young Olivier received the sacrament of Confirmation at Shateau-Richer on February 2, 1660, under the name of Olivier Tardif.

3: It is believed that Barbe, Olivier Le Tardif, and young Olivier resided in the Quebec, Canada area. Barbe mothered several more children after her arrival in New France. The baptisms of Barbe-Delphine, Charles, and Guillaume Tardif are recorded at Quebec. Barbe died around 1659. Olivier Le Tardif apparently died within a few years. On April 30, 1662, Olivier Michel was entrusted to the guardianship of his uncle, Zacharie Cloutier and later on to his half-sister, Barbe-Delphine and her husband, Jacques Cauchon. They had married on November 23, 1661 at Chateau-Richer. After the death of Olivier Le Tardif his land was divided among his children Charles, Guilliaume, Barbe-Delphine and his step-son Olivier Michel. On November 24, 1671, Marie-Madeleine Cauchon, age 16, married Olivier Michel, aged 25, at the church of Chateau-Richer. They lived for about 7 or 8 years at Chateau Richer. It is uncertain when, but for some unknown reason, after his marriage to Marie-Madeleine, Olivier changed his surname. He neither kept his natural father's name nor did he take his step-father's name. He chose "Taillon". Tanquay's and Jette's genealogical dictionaries (information taken from Catholic church records) list this as "the origin of the name Taillon". It is unlikely (but unknown) that Taillon was a surname in France before this family migrated to the Quebec, Canada area."

18175 On the morning of November 10, 2016, Rick passed away peacefully at home. He was 66 years old. Richard "Rick" Wayne Kimball was born in Watertown, NY on June 21, 1950. He was the first of four children, born to Patricia and Wayne. An avid outdoorsman, many knew Rick to be out in the woods at a favorite hunting spot this time of year. Enjoyed with his son Anthony, his brother-in-law David, his Uncle Harold, Charlie, and many other good buddies over the years, hunting was a way of life for Rick. Times in the Southern Tier at camp, out West with Charlie, were some of his happiest.
Rick often cherished holiday time and his sister Melanie's cooking and always looked forward to the Kimball-Warner family gatherings with all the cousins and grandchildren each year. Whether at his grandson Taylib's football or baseball games, his granddaughters' Kalista or McKenna's soccer, basketball, volleyball or softball outings, Rick cheered from the sidelines when life could allow. Right along with his love for his black labs and butterfingers, Rick was always a great storyteller. Hunting and fishing stories were of course his finest. There was an occasional story about a night or two of too much moonshine and Hank Williams, Jr, that was more often coupled with laughter than with tears. He was a loyal and steadfast friend to many.
A devoted laborer all his life, Rick was always building or working on something. One of his proudest achievements was the home he built with wife Jaynee of 15 years, and his children Anthony and Angela, up on Wheat Hill in Boylston. Sundays were 'yard days' and as much as Tony and Angela moaned and groaned, those early days of learning to work hard and take pride in caring for something, stuck with them to this day. He was a man who always had a mind for business, from his first sports shop to his favorite saloon, and sustained throughout his life an incredible work ethic. His brother Michael said "He was the hardest working, toughest man I ever knew."
Rick was preceded in death by: Mother Patricia Joy Warner-Kimball, Father Wayne Kimball, Lifelong friend Charlie Woodruff, Uncle John Kimball, Uncle Ross Kimball, Uncle Horace Kimball, Aunt Judith Kimball, Grandmother Thelma Warner, Aunts Rose, Mamie and Bessie Warner, Uncles Fred and Jack Warner, and many other close friends that stood by Rick and his family throughout the years.
Rick is survived by: Son Anthony Kimball and daughter-in-law Angela, Daughter Angela Kimball-Moonan, grandchildren Taylib and Kalista Kimball, granddaughter McKenna Moonan, sister Kathy Plummer and brother-in-law Ronald, brother Michael Kimball and sister-in-law Penny, sister Melanie Barber and brother-in-law Joe, ex-spouse Jaynee Bontomase, many loving nieces and nephews, cousins, close friends.
A special thanks to Mr. Jim Ridgeway for his loving support, friendship and sincere care for Rick and Rick's family over the years and particularly in these final months and days.
Services will be held Tuesday, November 15th with calling hours 3-6PM and a
Memorial Service immediately following. Summerville Funeral Home,

18178 One of the dwindling number of World War II veterans was just lost. Herman Stratton Killam (always known as “Stratt”) passed away peacefully at his home in Sandy Creek at the age of 97. He was born on December 28, 1920 in Sandy Creek, New York, son of Hugh and Barbara (Bemis) Killam. He graduated from the Sandy Creek High School in 1939. He received his honorable discharge on December 1, 1944. He was delighted to be a part of the April 2015 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. After the war, he came back to Sandy Creek and wed Beatrice Ellis. They were married 59 years before her death in 2004. Like his father and grandfather, he was a mechanic. He worked as the service manager at Ruder Buick Pontiac in Pulaski and then as the service manager at Syracuse Truck Sales until his retirement in 1985. Because of his mechanical abilities, he also spent a great number of hours volunteering on numerous church maintenance projects, keeping, for example, the ancient boiler working well past its normal life. He always worked with his brother, Jack, two years his junior, on these tasks. They came to be known as the “Killam Boys”. He was a lifetime photographer even getting a digital SLR at the age of 92. More than anything else, however, he enjoyed cars, whether they be old or new. He worked with his uncle to restore automobiles from the early 1900s. Together, they worked to turn them from junk into near concours quality. Mr. Killam was survived by his two daughters, Suzanne (Thomas) Pfister, Sandy Creek and Kandice Killam Champouillon, Cicero, along with one grandson, Alex Jon Champouillon, also of Cicero. 18200 Online Obituary - Carolyn Mae (Wilder) Moran - An undaunted spirt 1917 - 2011 - SENECA FALLS/N. PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLORIDA - Carolyn Wilder Moran, widow of former Reveille "Different Drum" columnist and Seneca Falls native Emerson D. Moran, passed away in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. on March 12, 2011. She was 94 and under hospice care. Burial next to her husband will be 2 p.m. Saturday (May 28) at Rest Vale Cemetery, Seneca Falls. Carolyn Mae Wilder was born Feb. 12, 1917 to parents Tracy H. and Lois P. Wilder of Syracuse and Pulaski, N.Y. Carolyn was born and raised in Syracuse. In her teens, she was first violinist of the Syracuse Youth Symphony. At 17, she met Emerson, brother of her high school English teacher, at meetings of the Oxford Group, a 1930s interdenominational, evangelical antidote to the period's general despair. In their 1979 memoir, "A Love Story for Old Age," he recalled her as "a brown-eyed girl with an innocence and joyful radiance that set me a-goggling." They married a year later; she was 18, he was 25. He died in 2004; they were married 69 years. Over the decades, war, family and work concerns led them from upstate New York to Madison, Wis.; Miami, Fla.; Tucson, Ariz.; and Los Angeles, Calif. In 1980, in retirement, they returned to the Finger Lakes of their origins, settling in Romulus before moving into the old Gould Hotel in downtown Seneca Falls. Eventually they relocated to the renovated First Ward School, taking an apartment in what nearly 80 years earlier had been Emerson's kindergarten class room. Carolyn, meanwhile, in her late 60s reinvented herself as a small business entrepreneur, designing and marketing a distinctive piece of motivational jewelry inspired by the nut-like pin that secures a helicopter's main rotor to the mast. The notion came from son Michael, onetime Navy helicopter pilot, who told her that helicopter pilots everywhere call it the "Jesus Nut," because "it holds the whole thing together." An astronaut carried one of Carolyn's miniature The Jesus Nuts® during a spacewalk; Ukrainian Christians wore them as a symbol of their illegal faith; Desert Storm soldiers took them into battle. Carolyn and Emerson were profiled in Norman Vincent Peale's Guideposts magazine and appeared on TV's "PTL Club" and Pat Robertson's "700 Club." In Seneca Falls, Carolyn was a member of the Fortnightly Club, active in the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches, and local charities. Emerson for a dozen years wrote "Different Drum," a weekly column of opinion and commentary about life in and around Seneca Falls. They later moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, to be near family. The Jesus Nut® business was taken up by daughter Pat when Carolyn's caring for her husband superseded all else. Over her long life Carolyn reached beyond traditional roles prescribed for women of her era. She was a business entrepreneur, church and community activist, mother of three children, matriarch of five generations, and the embodiment of steadfast Christian faith. Precisely cut from old school cloth, challenged from birth with physical disability, guided by her religious belief, she harbored an inner toughness and enduring optimism. Family and friends likened her to the determined pioneer women depicted in "Little House on the Prairie," written by a distant cousin, Laura Ingalls Wilder. "Mom was a believer and a survivor," a son said. "She followed her own melody." Her husband was familiar with the tune. His mother, Theodosia Park Moran, women's rights and suffragette advocate, was co-chair of the 75th anniversary of the 1848 Women's Rights Convention held in the old Wesley Methodist Chapel, just up Fall Street from the Moran family home. His father was Daniel W. Moran, Seneca Falls lawyer, district attorney, and member of the New York State Assembly more than a century ago. She is survived by brother, Tracy II, a retired Navy captain, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; daughter, Patricia McPhail (Jim) of Fairview, N.C.; sons, Emerson Jr., a writer, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Michael (Lyn), a minister, of Eastford, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, assorted great and great-great-children, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by brother Robert and sister Rhea. Arrangements entrust to Sanderson-Moore Funeral Home, Inc., 32 State Street, Seneca Falls, N.Y.

Family-Placed Obituary - CAROLYN WILDER MORAN An Undaunted Spirit Carolyn Wilder Moran, a concert violinist, business entrepreneur, church and community activist, matriarch of five generations, and the embodiment of steadfast Christian faith, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011, in the hospice unit at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. She was 94, the widow of Emerson D. Moran Sr., who died in 2004. They were married 69 years. Carolyn reached beyond traditional roles prescribed for women of her era. "She followed her own melody." In her teens, she was first violinist of the Syracuse (New York) Youth Symphony. At 17, she met Emerson, brother of her high school English teacher, at a meeting of the Oxford Group, a 1930s interdenominational, evangelical antidote to the period's general despair. In their 1979 memoir, A Love Story for Old Age, he recalled her as "a brown-eyed girl with an innocence and joyful radiance that set me a-goggling." He was from nearby Seneca Falls, birthplace of women's rights. It was a good match. They married a year later; she was 18, he was 25. Seven ministers took part in the service. "It was from her that I drew the spiritual will to begin in earnest the eternal attempt to substitute Christ for self," he later wrote. Through the following decades, his work as a consultant (he was a protégé of the original Oscar Mayer) and concerns for her health lead them from upstate New York to Madison, WI; Miami, FL; Tucson, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; back to Seneca Falls; and, finally, Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Wherever they settled, Carolyn applied her organizational skills to church and community causes, from washing dishes after Head Start lunches to directing a world-wide stewardship program for the Episcopal Church. In Miami, she chaired a fundraising "County Fair" for the brand new South Miami Hospital, now part of Baptist Health. In Tucson, she persuaded American impressionist artist Ted DeGrazia to donate an original pastel of a prayerful angelic Navaho child for a Christmas card to raise money for global Episcopal evangelism among students. In Huntington Beach, CA, she led a public campaign to restore public library budget cuts. The local paper editorialized "Thanks, Carolyn" for reminding the community "it's time that people stop wringing their hands over problems and start doing something about them." She taught her children "you can deal with anything if you have a program and a plan," a dictum she put into practice coping with her own disabilities and caring for her invalid husband the last years of his life. Carolyn was haunted by chronic handicapping pain triggered by her right hip, dislocated from birth. Surgery in 1957 presumably corrected the problem. However, after eight months in a full body cast, it was clear that skewed body mechanics presented a never-ending cascade of problems, leading to major joint replacements and years wearing leg braces, always concealed by elegant long skirts. Never daunted, in her late 60s Carolyn reinvented herself as a small business operator, designing and marketing a distinctive piece of motivational jewelry inspired by the nut-like pin that secures a helicopter's main rotor to the mast. The notion came from son Michael, onetime Navy helicopter pilot, who told her that pilots call it the "Jesus Nut," because "it holds the whole thing together." A Memorial will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 19, at Nativity Lutheran Church, 4075 Holly Drive, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410, 561-622-4998. A second memorial will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Congregational Church of Eastford, 8 Church Road, Eastford, CT, 06242, 860-974-0294. Donations to Nativity Lutheran Church.
