Newspaper Obituary - Saturday, April 21, 1917 Oswego Daily Times - Oswego, New York - Pulaski, April 21 - Purly L. Hardy Dead - Retired Farmer, Sailed Lakes in His Younger Days - Purly L. Hardy, for many years a successful farmer in the western section of this town and who had been a resident of this village for some time, passed away yesterday afternoon at the residence of his son, Claude F. Hardy, No. 4 Post street, following a short illness. He was stricken with pneumonia recently, but his health for some time past had not been of the best. Mr. Hardy was born January 22, 1840, at Port Ontario, where he followed farming for many years, retiring about eighteen months ago. He sailed the Great Lakes when a young man, but had throughout his entire life been a resident of this town. Mr. Hardy was a member of Lake Ontario Association No. 794, Patrons of Industry. His wife died several years ago. Besides the son mentioned another son, Fred P. Hardy, lives in Erie street. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Smith of Port Ontario, and Mrs. H. F. Graves of Parish. The funeral will be held at Bethel church, Port Ontario, tomorrow at 2 p.m., following a short service at the Hardy home in Port street, where friends may view the body tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Rev. E. A. Rogers, pastor of the First Baptist church, will officiate.

Newspaper Obituary - April 25, 1917 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Port Ontario District - Parley L. Hardy passed away Friday at the home of his son, Claude, at Pulaski after several weeks of illness with pneumonia. He was a life member of this place and will be greatly missed by his neighbors and friends who had always known him. He was 77. His wife died four years ago. He leaves two sons, Fred P. and Claude F., two sisters, Mrs. Maria Smith of this place, and Mrs. Jane Graves of Parish, to mourn his loss.

Patricia A. Gayne, 84, Penfield, formerly of 26989 Black River Road, died Monday at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.

Mrs. Gayne was formerly a stenographer in the Watertown area.

Born March 28, 1916, Watertown, daughter of William and Mary Ellen McGurl Lambert, she was a graduate of LaFargeville High School and the Watertown School of Commerce.

She married Richard W. Chambers on Sept. 4, 1937, at Holy Family Church with the Rev. Harold L. Skelly officiating. The marriage ended in divorce in 1954. She married Kenneth Valentine Gillette on May 10, 1958, with County Judge Milton A. Wiltse presiding in his chambers in the Unity building. Mr. Gillette died July 14, 1974. She married Arthur G. Gayne in January 1976 in Watertown. He died Dec. 6, 1997.

Mrs. Gayne was a former chairwoman of the board of directors of Literacy Volunteers.

Surviving are three daughters, Margaret A. Chambers, Fort Myers, Fla., Jean C. Belmont, Penfield, and Mrs. Donald (Katherine E.) Dudek, Penfield; a sister, Emily Dupree, Watertown; a brother, Bertrand Lambert, Pulaski; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at the convenience of the family. The body will be cremated.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Nulton Funeral Home, Penfield.

Contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

18417 Patricia A. Kinsman, 50, of Alfred, died unexpectedly on September 5, 2011 in the company of her loved ones at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Patty was born in Keene Valley, NY on January 29, 1961 to George and Sandra (Smith) Kinsman of AuSable Forks, NY. After the early death of her mother, Patty was raised by her beloved grandmother, Norma Smith who she affectionately referred to as "Myrtle the Turtle."

Patty enjoyed bartending at the Wolves Club and spent many years working at Spencer Press. She loved being a grandmother. Her grandchildren, Jayna, Jayden and Jessie were the love of her life. Matthew her godson, whom she called her little man, could always calm Patty and bring a smile to her face. Patty was well known for her awesome bonfires, and fondly nicknamed "3-Cord Patty." She will be remembered as a kind and loving woman and will be dearly missed by her friends and family.

She is survived by her husband Timothy Osier of Alfred; two sons, John (JK) Kinsman and his wife Patricia and Jason Snow and his wife Melissa all of AuSable Forks, NY; her father, George Kinsman of AuSable Forks, NY; three grandchildren, Jayna Lee Kinsman, Jayden Marie Snow and Jessie James Snow; five siblings, Norma LaHue and her husband Frank of Peru, NY, Michael Kinsman, Benny Kinsman and his wife Maggie all of AuSable, NY, Kelly Moulton and her husband George of Dayton, TX and Kenny Kinsman of Margate, FL; her best friend, Eleanor "Bag" Bedard as well as many loving nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM with a memorial service following at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 10th at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home located at 580 Main Street in Springvale.

Pat Nash, age 80, resident of Lacona, formerly of Pulaski, passed away Friday at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Oswego. Patricia was born July 1,1945, in Barnes Corners, the daughter of Olin and Beatrice Redden Glazier. She graduated from Mannsville Manor Central School in 1963. Pat worked at the C&M Diner in Pulaski for over 40 years and later at Kinney Drugs Pulaski for several years before retiring. She loved going to casinos, traveling to many across New York and New England, even making a special trip to Las Vegas. In her free time, she enjoyed watching sports games on television, eating out, going for car rides with her brother and sister-in-law, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed vacationing to Florida every year.

Pat is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Nash of Orlando, FL and Kimberly McNitt (Rory) of Lacona, grandchildren, Jessica Pedersen (Kyle), Marissa Gossett (Juan), Rylee McNitt (Brodey), and Karlie Hilton, great-grandchildren, Annabell, Jaxon and Charlie. Her brother, Lyndon Glazier (Sherry) of Lacona and brother in-law, David Parks of Blacksburg, VA, along with several nieces and nephews. Pat was predeceased by her parents, and sister, Rosemary Parks.

Calling hours will be held, Thursday, September 11 th from 4 to 6 p.m., at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with a private graveside service in Ellisburg Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, October 12, 1977 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Mrs. Patricia A. Thurston, 17, of Pulaski RD 1 died Sunday at State University Hospital in Syracuse of injuries suffered in an accident September 25. Mrs. Thurston and her husband, Morris, 21, were struck from behind by a car while the two were riding bicycles on Route 11 near Pulaski High School. The car reportedly sped from the scene, but a short time atler the 9:30 p.m. accident, Clayton Carpenter, 38, of Mexico RD 3 was arrested on Route 11 near Maple View. Carpenter was charged by state police with a felony count of driving while intoxicated and with leaving the scene of an accident involving injury. Pulaski police charged him with leaving the scene of a property damage accident. A state police spokesman Sunday night said the Oswego County district attorney would have to be consulted before a decision is made on whether any charge is to be brought in Mrs. Thurston's death. Morris Thurston was released from the hospital last week. Born in Syracuse to Leland and Mary Keleher Jerome, Mrs. Thurston lived in Pulaski most of her life. She attended Pulaski Academy and was married last November 5. Surviving besides her husband are her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs William Merrill; a step-brother, Leland Gonyea of Potsdam, and her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Jerome of Potsdam. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home and 1:30 in St. John's Church, Pulaski. Burial will be in Richland Cemetery, Richland.

18421 Patricia Ann LaFave, age 80, of Hilton Head Island, SC, a former resident of Pulaski, passed away Saturday in Hilton Head. Patricia was born April 9, 1938 in Mohawk, NY, the daughter of Andrew R. and Mildred Zoller Booth. She graduated from Mohawk Central School in 1956, and she worked at General Electric in Utica until she met the love of her life. Patricia married John T. LaFave on August 27, 1960. An unfailing wife and a dedicated mother, she devoted her life to her husband and family. Once the children were grown she worked at Pulaski Central School District for 20 years. In retirement, Pat and John enjoyed many happy years in their Hilton Head Island home that Pat designed.
Surviving are her husband, John, four children, Tom (Christine) LaFave of Cazenovia, Susan LaFave of Hilton Head, SC, Shannan (Mike) Leeper of Mansfield, OH, and Christopher LaFave of Boca Raton, Florida, eight grandchildren, Andrew (Brittany) LaFave, Emily LaFave, Grace LaFave, Nicholas Leeper, Kathleen Leeper, Mary Leeper, Harrison LaFave, Eleanor LaFave and one great grandson, Jack LaFave. Patricia was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Benjamin Z. Booth.
Calling hours will be held Monday, June 11th, 11:00 to 12:30 at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski followed by a memorial service held 1 p.m. at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 23 Niagara Street, Pulaski with burial in Pulaski Cemetery. All are invited to a reception that will be held at the Pulaski Fire Department immediately following the burial.

18424 Patricia Anne Bush, 69, of Pulaski, NY passed away February 2, 2025 peacefully at home with her family by her side. She succumbed to a lengthy battle with Myelofibrosis, a very rare blood and bone cancer. Patti was born in Syracuse, NY, daughter of the late Robert (Buddy) and Ida May Miller (née Weber). She retired from the New York State Department of Transportation, where she worked for 25 years as a Civil Engineer in both the Construction and Traffic Safety Groups. She also proudly served 17 years as a union steward for the Public Employees Federation. Ten of those years she was the Council Leader of Division 256, the first woman to serve in that capacity. Patti cared deeply for the welfare of her fellow employees, and worked tirelessly to ensure that their rights and benefits were secure.

Patti’s favorite leisure activities were fishing with her husband on their boat, designing houses, and decorating cakes. She won numerous blue ribbons for her original cake designs, and especially enjoyed creating cakes for her family. She had many wonderful pets throughout her life, almost all of which were strays that she adopted. Patti also became an ordained minister in her final years.

Patti is survived by her loving husband, Fred, step-daughter Morgan (Shawn) David, step-daughter Kayla (Andrew) Bush, grandchildren Alyssa and Portia David, and Bryce and Lyla Watson. She also leaves behind her aunt, Connie Weber, of Phoenix, AZ, nieces Meghan (PJ) Mackay, Danielle (Tom) Campagni, and great-nieces Addison Hall and Fallon Mackay.

Funeral services will be private at the request of the family. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In memory of Patti, the family requests that contributions be made to her favorite charity, All Creatures Big & Small Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 373, Lacona, NY 13083.

18425 Patricia B. "Patty" Cornelius, 83, of 1141 Summit Road, Rew, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday (Jan. 12, 2016) unexpectedly, at her residence.
Born Feb. 17, 1932, in Bradford, she was the only child of the late Roy Monroe and Esther P. Sloan Benton.
On May 17, 1951, at the Hill Memorial United Methodist Church in Bradford, she married Richard R. "Dick" Cornelius, who died on Feb. 2, 1998.
Mrs. Cornelius was a housewife, homemaker and babysitter. She enjoyed the time she spent with her family, her church families, and especially the time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Christian Gospel Church in Coleville and attended the Rew United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Deborah A. (Fran) Ritz of Rew, Shirley J. (Mark) Young of Houston, Texas, and Susan M. (Larry) Yeager of Rew; one son, William R. Cornelius of Rew; five grandchildren, Jamie (Jeremy) Luna, Samantha (Brad) Leet, Sharon (Eric) Sharp, Dustin Young, and Gina (John) Cumbo; seven great-grandchildren, Dilyn, Deven, Sydney, Ava, Aubrielle, Liv, and Evan; and her nieces Carole Thomas and Betty Cumbo, with whom she spent many memorable times.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Family will be receiving friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 372 East Main St., and again on Friday, at the Rew United Methodist Church from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time funeral and committal services will be held with the Rev. Marge Lindahl, pastor, and the Rev. Max Simms, pastor of the Hilltop Baptist Church, co-officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

Patricia Clemens Rotunno, 69, formerly of Pulaski, died Friday at Woodmont Nursing Home, Fredericksburg, Va.

Mrs. Rotunno taught instrumental music in the Warren County School District for 15 years, retiring in 1989.

Born June 19, 1929, in Orwell, daughter of Earl and Ella Ballard Clemens, she was a 1947 graduate of Pulaski Academy and High School and a 1951 graduate of Syracuse University with a bachelor's degree in music education.

She married William A. Rotunno in July 9, 1951, in Pulaski Methodist Church with the Rev. James N. Pauley officiating.

The couple lived in Warren, Pa., and Russell, Pa., for 20 years, and at Palm Coast. Fla., for several years before moving to Fredericksburg in 1997.

Mrs. Rotunno was a member and choir director at Northwest Pennsylvania Presbyterian Church, Warren, and at the Russell United Methodist Church.

She had also been a member of the Spotsylvania (Va.) Presbyterian Church and of the Old Kings Highway chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, Christopher A., Oswego; three daughters, Carolyn G. Rotunno, Warren, Joanne P. Sharp, Pittsfield, Pa., and Julie R. Paul, Fredericksburg; a brother, Robert P. Clemens, Stillwater, and eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Elizabeth Mowry, pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Foster-Hax Funeral Home.

She was a graduate of Pulaski Academy. Mrs. Graziano retired from A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton, as a billing supervisor. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Kent B. Pat was born May 22, 1940 in Ellisburg, NY to Robert and Elizabeth (Otis) Munson. She was a graduate of Belleville Academy in 1958 and earned her Registered Nursing Degree from House of the Good Samaritan Nursing School in 1961. Pat married James Atkinson April 7, 1962 in Ellisburg. Jim passed away November 3, 2019. Pat was employed by Oswego County BOCES in Mexico as the school nurse for 17 years. She also worked for local hospitals, Dr. Offices, Pulaski School District and helped start the WIC Program in Oswego County.

Pat was a member of Pulaski Wesleyan Church and was a Sunday School teacher there for 30 years. She was a 4-H leader and enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, serving her community and most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children; Kelly (Kevin) Caster of Pulaski, Tim (Cyndee) Atkinson of Stanley, NY, Bob (Christin) Atkinson of Pulaski, a brother John (Sally) Munson of Lacona, four brother in laws, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be held Friday September 17, 2021 from 11-1pm at the Pulaski Wesleyan Church with the Funeral Service at 1pm. Burial will be at Daysville Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the church.

Patricia Ann Potter (Elkin) of Orwell, NY, passed away after a courageous fight on June 16, 2025, at Upstate Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 83. She was born on April 25, 1942, in Rome, NY, to the late Earl and Marjorie (LaCelle) Elkin.

A proud graduate of Sandy Creek Central School, Class of 1961, Patricia cherished many years spent in Melbourne, Florida, where she resided for 15 years. An avid traveler and swimmer, she loved exploring new destinations throughout her life. In her later years, Patricia found great joy in observing the birds and flowers that filled her backyard.

A devoted partner to her husband, Milferd, Patricia worked alongside him in their many family-owned businesses. She also served as Postmaster Relief at the Orwell Post Office for 14 years and volunteered as Treasurer for the Oswego County Fair.

Patricia is predeceased by her parents, Earl and Marjorie Elkin; her sisters, Jean Taplin and Elaine French; and her sons, John and James, and daughter, Katherine.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Milferd; daughters Loretta (Ken) Owens and Valerie Potter (Mayo Aswan); and her cherished grandson, Jonathon Trump (Adrienne Becker), who brought immense joy to her life.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Half-Shire Historical Society, located at 1100 County Route 48 in Richland. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Orwell Fire Department in Patricia’s memory.

Patricia C. Thompson, 90, of Pulaski, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Rome Memorial Hospital.

Born on December 19, 1933, in Syracuse, New York, Patricia led a life marked by resilience, dedication, and love for her family and community. After raising her children, she achieved a significant milestone by earning an Associate's Degree at the age of 50. Patricia went on to work as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Samaritan Medical Center for 15 years, where her compassion and commitment touched countless lives.

In addition to her nursing career, Patricia owned and operated the Boylston Bunkhouse, a venture that reflected her entrepreneurial spirit. She also found joy in knitting, creating beautifully crafted afghans that she lovingly shared with many in her community.

Patricia is survived by her six children: Gary (Victoria) White, George (Teresa) White, Charlotte (Daniel) Bergman, Jolene Potter, James (Stacy) White, and Charles (Cathy) White. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Ronald Mountpleasant, 21 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. . A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held in the spring, with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sandy Creek, New York.

18435 Patrick "Scooter" Smith, Jr., 62, of Fulton, passed into God's loving arms on Saturday, November 11 after a lengthy battle with cancer at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 21, 1955 to Patrick J. Smith, Sr. and Claudette Huard Smith. The eldest of six children, he graduated in 1973 from G. Ray Bodley High School, Fulton. Scooter was a Pipefitter at Interface Solutions until his retirement in 2014. He was a communicant of The Church of the Holy Trinity in Fulton. Scooter was a head coach for many years for both boys and girls Fulton Youth Hockey teams. He was a member of the Tuesday Night Men's Golf League at Battle Island. A fan of all sports, Scooter was a Yankee fan, a Buffalo Sabres fan and above all else a Notre Dame Football fan.
Scooter is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Beth Orr Smith; his children, Erin Smith, Kate (Patrick) Milligan and Patrick W. (Sarah) Smith; grandsons, Mitchell, Cameron and Riley; his parents, Patrick and Claudette Smith; siblings, Michael (Becca) Smith, Kim (Jeff) Johnson, Kelly (Jay) LeVea, Kathy (Michael) Amodie and Jim (Deborah) Smith; parents-in-law, Bill and Mary Orr and many nieces and nephews.

Patrick A. Lance, 63, Pulaski, died Monday at his home.

Mr. Lance was employed by Frontier Communications for 43 years, retiring in June 2005.

Born June 30, 1943, in Glens Falls, son of Raymond and Priscilla Ritcher Lance, he graduated from Glens Falls High School.

He received a degree from a college in California and served in the Air Force.

He married Debbie Bice on July 2, 1987. A previous marriage ended in divorce.

Mr. Lance moved to Pulaski in 1980. He was a member of Robert Edwards American Legion Post 358, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289 and the Ringgold Fire Department.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Patrick Jr., Troy and Raymond, all of Florida; four daughters, Denise Nelson, Washington state, Pixie Cox, Florida, Tracey Pearson, Parish, and Sonia Bice, Pulaski; a brother, Michael, California, 14 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Wiltse officiating.

Spring burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late William and Alice (Clemmons) Glycenfer.

She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Costello, and brother, Eugene McCabe.

Surviving are her sons, Michael and Kevin Costello; grandson, Michael Lee Costello; sisters, Barbara Smith and Kathleen Barker; brothers, William Glycenfer and John McCabe; nieces and nephews.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, March 11, 1931 Oswego Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Pulaski, March 11 - Patsy M. Murray, 70, died at his home in Furnace street early this morning. He had been in poor health since he suffered injuries in a motor accident near his home about a year ago. It is believed he was improving but he suffered a relapse in January and never regained his strength. Mr. Murray was born in Napanee, Canada, May 8, 1860, son of the late Jerry and Eliza Hardie Murray. When he was 4 years old he came with his parents to a farm near Port Ontario and received his education in the rural school of that vicinity. When he was 18 years of age he went to Watertown, where he was employed by the J. N. Tilden Company of that city. He married Miss Cora Moore, who died several years ago. The couple moved to a farm in the Lamb district, near the Advent church, in 1894. Mr. Murray resided there until 12 years ago when he retired and came to the Furnace street home. Mr. Murray was a charter member of Pulaski Lodge, 415, F. and A.M., and was made a life member of that body in He was active in all Masonic affairs, having shown particular interest in the building of the Masonic Temple in Broad street. He was also a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. His survivors include two daughters, Mrs. R. L. Lowry of Alhambra, California, and Miss Vivian Murray, a teacher in Ogdensburg; one son, Ray J. Murray, and a twin brother, James Murray, both of Pulaski. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the Methodist Episcopal church with the Rev. John Warren, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Willis cemetery.

18445 Paul "Dick" Potter, age 86, resident of Redfield, passed away, Sunday, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica. Paul was born June 10, 1925 in Orwell, son of Cyril and Harriet Howland Potter. He resided in Redfield for 27 years, before living in Central Square, Pulaski, and he spent winters Lakeland, FL. Paul graduated from Pulaski High School in 1944. He married Laura I. Thompson on September 9, 1945, she died May 24, 2006. Paul was employed by Marcy State Hospital for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He also did painting in Florida for many years.

Surviving, one son Ronald D. Potter of Bunnell, FL, one daughter Roberta D. (Merle) Lawson of Ohio, NY, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral.

Services for Paul C. Guyette, 66, of 8330 Demott St., who was found dead Monday in a heavily wooded area in Parishville, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. Burial will be in South Richland Cemetery, Pulaski.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, 8192 Harwood Drive.

Mr. Guyette was missing since Saturday, and was apparently hunting rocks when he became ill.

A native of Diamond, Mr. Guyette lived in Lacona since 1948. He was self-employed for the past 20 years in the trucking business, and previously owned and operated Guyette Fuel Co., which he sold to Agway. Mr. Guyette was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed rock collecting.

Surviving are his wife, the former Joyce Weisenburger; three daughters, Sandra Hughs of Sandy Creek, Sherry Batson of Philadelphia and Coleen Guyette of Williamsburg, Va.; a son, Kirk of Sandy Creek; a sister, Marjorie Smithers of Watertown; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Newspaper Obituary - Monday, September 7, 1987 Banner Times - Pulaski, New York - Former Sandy Creek Mayor Paul C. Turo - Former Sandy Creek Mayor Paul C. Turo, 66, of 8083 Park Street, died Friday morning, August 28, 1987 at Mercy Hospital, Watertown, following a brief illness. Born March 19, 1921, in the Town of Albion, he was a son of Frank and Loretta Smith Turo. He was graduated from Pulaski High School in 1939 and served in the Army from 1940 to 1945. He was a member of the 1st Division, the "Big Red One," from North Africa through the invasion of France and the German surrender. On November 2, 1945, Mr. Turo married Sally Kerns at Sandy Creek, with her father, the Rev. George L. Kerns, officiating. The couple lived in Pulaski and Richland before coming to Sandy Creek in 1948. Mr. Turo worked in the rail industry for 37 years as an employee of New York Central Railroad, which later became Penn-Central Railroad, and fmally, Conrail. He retired from Conrail in May, 1982 as a traveling representative. Mr. Turo was a member of the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, serving as a lay speaker and church trustee. He was also a trustee of the Oswego County Literacy Volunteers of America and served on the Oswego Housing Development Council Inc.'s board of directors. As a member of the county housing council, Mr. Tura helped create the Creekside Apartments, a housing complex for senior citizens and low-income families, and the Redfield Elementary School housing project. Mr. Turo served as village trustee from 1973 to 1983, when he was elected mayor. He left public office this year. At the time of his death, he was president of the Friends of Ainsworth Memorial Library and served on the board of trustees of the Richland Cemetery Association. He was a member of the Cable Trail Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8534, Lacona. As a member of the now defunct Village Players, Mr. Turo participated in all aspects of Little Theatre production, the highlight his amateur acting career perhaps being his appearance as Mark Twain. The funeral was held August 31 at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Janet Gibbs, pastor, and the Rev. Leland Webster, retired, officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in the family plot at Richland Cemetery, Richland. Arrangements were handled by Summerville Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Ainsworth Memorial Library, Sandy Creek. Surviving are his wife Sally; one son, George R., Troy; one daughter, Mrs. F. He was a member of the Fernwood Baptist church and Pulaski lodge 415, F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Butterfly Gun club, Mexico, the Albion Rod and Gun club, the Mad River Gun club, and the National Rifle association, Washington, D. C.
