18801 Pulaski schools. She was married to Milton Coon on May 29, 1901, and together they operated a general store in Richland until his death in 1930. Mrs. Coon was a former member of the Richland Methodist Church. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Orla Sprague of Richland and Mrs. Howard (Helen) Pulver of Vestal; one niece and one nephew. Funeral services were Saturday, August 23 at the Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Pennock of Christ Church Parish officiating. Burial was in Richland Cemetery.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, January 13, 1897 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Vorea - Mrs. David Coon died December 24, at the residence of her son, William Coon, in Vorea. The funeral was held at Richland, in the Church of Christ, Elder Stevens was the officiating clergyman. She was a great sufferer and welcomed death as a release. She leaves a husband and three children, all married. We extend our sympathy to them in their trouble.

18819 Pulaski, June 4 - Miss Jessica F. Farmer, 50, native of the town of Richland, died yesterday morning at her home at 2 Port street following an illness of less than a week.

Miss Farmer was born July 29, 1877, at the Farmer home one mile south of this village and where she had passed practically all her life. Graduating from Pulaski academy class of 1895, and entered offices of her brother, Lawrence J. Farmer, who operates a nursery one mile south of this village and for 26 years had been in the employ of Charles A. Newell, at that time postmaster at Kasoag and who later came to Pulaski and engaged in operating a variety store, first in the People's National Bank building at North Jefferson and Park streets and who later acquired the Tollner block in the same thoroughfare. It was during the latter period that he served as town clerk and Miss Farmer was appointed deputy town clerk, serving in that capacity until about two years ago, when Albert E. Lawrence was elected to succeed him. At the time of her death she was serving with Mr. Jewell as deputy county clerk.

Miss Farmer was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal church and of Young Women's Foreign Missionary society: Ontario Chapter 638 D. A. R., and of the Women's Civic club of Pulaski.

Surviving are two brothers Charles F. Farmer and Lawrence J. Farmer of Pulaski and a sister Mrs. Frank W. Austin of Fulton.

Funeral services will be held from the home at 3 Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Charles H. Bollinger, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church. Burial will be made in Pulaski cemetery.

Members of Ontario Chapter, 633 D. A. R., will attend in a body. It is announced by the regent, Mrs. Frederic G. Whitney of North Jefferson street.

18821 PULASKI, NY - Carl R. Stone, Jr., 67, Pulaski, passed away Saturday, Dec. 15, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Oswego County.
Born Jan. 2, 1951, in Watertown, the son of Carl R. and Clara Belle Lowrey Stone, Sr., he graduated in 1970 from Belleville Academy.
For the past several years he worked for Reeb Millwork in Liverpool as a truck driver.
He married Eartle Merrill on May 31, 2013, in Watertown, NY.
Carl enjoyed the time he spent with his family, bowling, going to flea markets, watching science fiction movies and was quite the jokester.
He is survived by his wife, Eartle, Pulaski; 3 sons, Carl (Cathy Dobson), Theresa; George (Michelle Sampson), Sandy Creek; Kirk and Quintina, Lorraine; grandchildren, Tara, Jacklynn, Skylar, Logan, Tyler, Izabella and Rebekah. Also surviving are his sisters, Caroline Loomis, Cynthia Hall, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Stone, and two sisters, Claire Larman and Connie Anderson.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family will have a celebration of life for Carl at a date and time to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Oswego County, 70 Bunner St., Oswego, NY 13126.

18823 Pulaski, Oct. 14 - Mrs. Lillian May Fancher Harris, long active in the local units of W.C.T.U., D.U.V. and the Methodist church died Sunday morning at the family home in the Centerville road after a short illness. She was born April 22, 1872, in the town of Hastings and was the daughter of Franklin M. and Mary A Chappell Fancer. Her father was one of the last Civil War survivors in the Pulaski area, and for many years she had been active in veteran organizations.

She was first married to Charles E. Bush in 1896 and married Arthur P. Harris in 1913. Besides Mr. Harris, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George Bennett and Mrs. James Hurd of Oswego, and Mrs. Edward Carl of Pulaski; three sons, Fred A., Clarence A. and Ray F. Bush, all of Pulaski; a step-daughter, Mrs. Arthur Blount of Hastings; a brother Frederick P. Fancher of Lebanon; five grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the family home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. W. A. Gardner, and burial will be in Hastings.

18824 PULASKI- Brian E. Kranz, infant son of Ralph and Verna Kranz, died unexpectedly at his home, 7216 Park St., Sunday.

He was born Oct. 24 at Oswego Hospital and is survived by his parents, three brothers, Edward, 5, David, 2, and Terry, 1, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Joyner, Orwell.

Private services will be held at 11 Tuesday morning at the Foster Funeral Home, the Rev. Nelson Reppert, pastor of Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery in the Spring.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.

Born March 18, 1897 in Memphis, she was the wife of the late Channie O. Joyner, killed in an automobile accident Jan 10, 1962 [inc 1963], near Sandy Creek.

She had resided in the Sandy Creek-Lacona area most of her life.

She is survived by a daughter. Mrs. Irving (Doris) Whaley of Richland; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Elbro (Ada) Hall and Mrs. Archit (Ethel) Corden, both of Mattydale; two brothers, Glenn and Clinton Smith of West Monroe.

Services will be at 2 p. m. Friday at the Foster Funeral Home, the Rev Nelson Reppert, pastor of Highland Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Pulaski.

Mrs. Joyner, 69, Dies August 16

Mrs. Olive L. Joyner, 69 died Aug. 16, 1966 in Marcy hospital. She was the widow of Chauncey (Channie) Joyner and lived most of her life in the Lacona-Sandy Creek area.

She was born March 16, 1897 in Memphis, N.Y., a daughter of Judson and Margaret Van Valkenburg Smith. She was married to Mr. Joyner Feb. 28, 1917. He died Jan. 10, 1962.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Irving (Doris) Whaley, Richland, by five grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Albro (Ada) Hall and Mrs. Archie (Ethel) Gordon of Mattydale; two brothers, Glenn Smith and Clinton Smith, West Monroe.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral Home in Pulaski. The Rev. Nelson Reppert of Orwell will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Pulaski. Calling hours for friends are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

18826 Pulaski-Francis F. Britton, Jr., 62, of Pulaski, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at his residence. He was born January 31, 1952 in Syracuse, a son of Francis F. Sr. and Anna Smith Britton.
Francis was employed by McIntosh Box and Pallet Co. in Bernhards Bay. He logged in the area for many years. Francis was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening.
Francis was predeceased by his first wife Sherry Ann Hort Britton in 1972; a brother Charles Britton and a sister Peggy Scott. He is survived by his wife Melanie A. (Pearson) Britton; seven children, Sherry Lynn (Anthony) Britton-Susino of Oswego, Heather Lee (Chris) Meade of Leetonia, OH, Matthew James Britton of Zephyrhills, FL, Tammy S. (Joe) Pailley of Greenwich, NY, Billie Jo (Kenneth Sweeting) Britton of Oswego, Francis F. (Janelle White) Britton III and Michael Allen (Maria) Britton of Syracuse; seventeen grandchildren; father-in-law, William Pearson, Pulaski, NY, four sisters, Mary Ann Bartlett of Ohio, Janet (Robert) Yoran of Canton, NY, Christy (Tom) Hare of Mechanicsville, NY and Margaret (Joe Whipple of Marcellus; several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Hemotology & Oncology Assoc. of CNY at Brittonfield Pkwy., E. Syracuse for the excellent care and comfort they provided to Francis.

18827 Pulaski-Mrs Deloarse Jackson, 66, wife of Cortland Jackson, died Tuesday night at her home near Orwell. She was born April 24, 1889, in the Town of Albion, daughter of John & Minnie Sloper Doane. On August 4, 1907, she was married to Mr Jackson. They lived most of their life in Orwell. She was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church in Sandy Creek.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Cortland John Jackson Jr. of Albion; three sisters, Mrs Herbert Mandigo of Pulaski, Mrs Harry Whaley of Richland, and Mrs Hattie Mattison of Red Bank; two brothers, Artemus Doane of Westvale and Alva Doane.
Services will be held Friday at Fosters Funeral Home, with rev. Clinton Draper, pastor of Sandy Creek Wesleyan Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Altmar Cemetery.

18828 PULASKI. Sept. 29.-The death of Albert F. Betts, which occurred last evening, removes one of the most highly esteemed citizens of this community.

Mr. Betts was a son of the late Dr. James N. Betts. He was born in Chenango county, N.Y., in 1844.

He came to this village with his parents when a young man. He engaged in the clothing business and continued in that line of work for many years. He later bought the Pulaski Electric Light Company's plant and was also one of the owners of the Charles Tollner box factory, and acted as secretary and manager of the plant for some time, retiring two years ago this Fall. Mr. Betts was an active worker in the Baptist church and a member of Pulaski Lodge, F and A. M. He was president of the Tillage for several years and in all his relations in private and public life he was one of the most noble and honorable of men.

He married Florence Peckham and to them were born a daughter, now Mrs. William B. Baker, of Gloversville, and a son, Frank P. Betts, of this village.

He also leaves, besides the widow, one brother, James H. Betts of this village. Another brother, Dr. G. W. Betts died last April.

18832 QUEENSBURY - Vernice M. (Himes) Martin, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on May 20, 1923, in Central Square, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Hazel (Allen) Himes. On Jan. 11, 1947, Vernice married John A. Martin at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse, N.Y. John passed away Dec. 16, 2007. Vernice cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She also had a special compassion for animals, and especially loved her dogs. She took great pride in her yard work, and loved gardening and growing flowers while logging many miles on her lawn tractor. She was also a huge fan of Danny O’Donnell, an Irish tenor, and was overjoyed to have recently attended one of his concerts. Vernice enjoyed traveling with her husband and visiting her brother and sister in California. Left to cherish her memories are her sons, John Martin and his wife, Cindy, Thomas Martin and his wife, Patti, James Martin and his wife, Maureen; her grandchildren, Mollie and Adam Martin, Abby, Jarred, and John Andrew Martin, and James and Joseph Martin. Vernice is also survived by her sister, Margaret May and her husband, Russell. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Vernice’s request, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of Vernice’s life will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at St. Mary’s Church, 62 Warren St., Glens Falls, N.Y., with the Rev. Liam Condon officiating. Rite of Committal will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Bristol family for taking such good care of Vernice, and also to the 3rd floor nursing station at Saratoga Hospital for its excellent care. Quentin O. Gerdon, 78, Porterville, Calif., formerly of Copenhagen, died Monday in Fresno, Calif.

Mr. Gerdon was a retired painter.

Born March 7, 1921, in Pulaski, son of Tracy and Grace Tilkins Gerdon, he lived in Copenhagen before moving to California.

A marriage to Pauline Ramsey ended in divorce.

Surviving are three sons, Tracy, of Fargo, and Paul and David, both of Copenhagen; four daughters, Diana Gerdon, Wasco, Calif., Mrs. Maurice (Jane) Doyle, Martinsburg, W.Va., Mrs. Dennis (Dorene) Kula, Waterville, Maine, and Mrs. James (Patricia) Martineau, Winchendon, Mass.; five brothers, Winton, Hemet, Calif., Charles, Melbourne, Fla., Lester, Brea, Calif., and Grover and James, both of Twin Falls, Idaho; four sisters, Juanita Nicholson and Anita Rydalch, both of Twin Falls, Shirley Barnard, Brea, and Issabelle Beidelman, Sedro-Woolley, Wash., 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Lewis and Warren, and a grandson died before him.

The body was cremated. Arrangements are with the Cremation Society of Central California, Fresno.

Thornton was born May 11, 1930, in Jackson Heights, NY, the son of Rae and Margaret Knox Jones Sr. Thornton was a resident of Pulaski since 1984, he also resided in Parish and Syracuse. He graduated from Mount Herman Preparatory School in Greenfield, MA, in 1947. He also graduated from Hamilton College, in 1951. Thornton served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1959 as a lieutenant commander. He was employed as a capitan in the Merchant Marines in New York from 1959 until 1989. Thornton was a member of the Master, Mates and Pilot Union in NYC and the Robert Edwards American Legion Post # 358 in Pulaski. Surviving: his companion, June Hilliker of Pulaski; one brother, Winfield "Bud" (Donna) Jones of Pulaski; three nieces, Susan (Bob) Deegan of Camillus, Karen (Pete) Backus of Pulaski, and Beth LaFave of Liverpool; one nephew, Scott (Libby) Jones of Pulaski; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. RAYMOND W. SEELEY, Sr., of 228 Cleveland av., died this morning. He was a communicant of Assumption Church and a member of its Holy Name Society and of the Knights of St. John.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Norma C. Kina Seeley; two sons Raymond W., Jr., and Jerome R. Seeley; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Wheeler and Miss Norma E. Seeley; one grandson, nine brothers, Forrest of Tampa, Fla.; and Erwin, Leo, Olin, Jacob, Lawrence, Lester, William and Melvin, all of Syracuse; three sisters, Mrs. Edward Wirth and Mrs. Elmer Owen, both of Liverpool and Mrs. James Caudle of this city.

Services will be held at 11:15 A.M. Saturday in Gang Memorial Chapel and at 11:45 A.M. in Assumption Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call 7 to 9 P.M. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. tomorrow.

Rachael was born on January 17, 1927, to Nelson and Eloise (Christman) Camidge. She attended school in Natural Bridge and then graduated from Lowville Academy in 1942. A marriage to Clayton LaJuett and Albert Gayne ended in divorce.

Rachael had worked as a waitress and short order cook at the Red Moon Diner and had previously worked as a seamstress for Levi Strauss in California and at Olga Knitting Mill in Watertown making clothes for Lane Bryant and Bobby Brooks. She had also worked for Denny's Restaurant in different states. Rachael enjoyed sewing, gambling and going to garage sales.

Rachael is survived by two daughters, Wanda LaJuett of New York and Connie Gaines of Norwich, NY; three brothers, Emeron Camidge and Gene Camidge both of Carthage and Nelson Camidge; a sister, Helen Chisamore of Carthage; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her parents; three sons, Clayton Charles LaJuett, Nelson James LaJuett and Terry Lee LaJuett; three brothers, Donald, Cleon and Quentin; and three sisters, Alice Hunkins, Eva Breesee and Vivian Zeller.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be private at North Watertown Cemetery.

MANNSVILLE, N.Y. -- Rachel O. Redden, 23, of Renshaw Bay Rd., died Monday morning at the Samaritan Medical Center where she had been a patient for one week. She was born with Cystic Fibrosis and has been in failing health since April.

Born in Watertown, October 3, 1982, a daughter of Timothy and Rosalind Groff Redden, she graduated from Belleville-Henderson in 2001. She entered the nursing program at BOCES while in high school and continued her education with the program two years following graduation from school.

Miss Redden was a member and former secretary of the Ellisburg Fire Department auxiliary. She was a member of the Sandy Creek United Wesleyan Church and Big Brothers / Big Sisters. She enjoyed doing beadwork and making homemade pocketbooks.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a brother, Timothy, Jr., Pulaski and a sister Nicole, Mannsville. Many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with Rev. Brian Snyder, pastor of the United Wesleyan Church in Sandy Creek. Burial will be in Ellisburg Cemetery. Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday from at the funeral home.

18843 Raised by the Bovee family---her cousins of Adams, NY. Following her marriage to Mr. Deans, Mildred moved to Syracuse, then later to Lansing, Michigan where he found work. Mr. Deans died about 1918, and Mildred remarried a Mr. Davis who she later divorced.
In September 1940 Mildred went to Watertown, NY with her 11 year old daughter Caroline Davis. While there she began work for Dr. C. S. Shuman, living with her brother Arthur. On November 13 both were returning to Lansing, Michigan to live when she and her brother were in a serious car accident in Hamilton, Ontario. Arthur died immediately, Mildred lingered for a few days.

18845 RALEIGH - A Davie County man was found dead Monday in a North Carolina prison.

Robert James Spicer, 48, was found dead of an apparent suicide in his prison cell at Nash Correctional Institution in Nashville, the N.C. Department of Public Safety said. The medium-security facility is just outside Rocky Mount.

Officials said Spicer was found unresponsive in his cell about 12:35 a.m. Prison staff, medical staff and paramedics responded and tried to resuscitate Spicer, but he was pronounced dead about 12:55 a.m. at the prison.

Spicer was convicted on Nov. 28, 2005, in Davie County for sexual offense with a child and rape of a child younger than 13, according to the Department of Public Safety website. He was transferred to the prison system two days later and scheduled to be released in November 2067.

Born in Mallory, he lived in North Syracuse before moving to Brewerton 50 years ago. He retired in 1974 after 38 years as a truck driver for Bush Haulage Co., Syracuse. He also worked at Goettel Lumber Co., Central Square. He was a member of Brewerton United Methodist Church.

Survivors: Two daughters, Joyce Snyder of Bernhards Bay and Jeanne Gravlin of Brewerton; a sister, Maude Harke of Clay; a brother, Otto of Central Square; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Services for Ralph C. Murtaugh, 74, of Central Square, who died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital after a long illness, will be Wednesday at the Watson Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Calling hours will be today 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Murtaugh was a native of Espanola, Canada. He lived in Syracuse before moving to Central Square 25 years ago. He was employed with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 545. He retired in 1980.

He was a sergeant major in the Cameron Highlanders of the Canadian Army.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret (Rita); two sons, Richard of Central Square and Rodney of Pennellville; two sisters, Marjorie Murtaugh of North Syracuse and Shirley Cole of Chicago; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ralph D. Towles, 71, of 9318 Grove St., died Thursday at his home after a long illness. He had been under the care of his family and Hospice.

Mr. Towles worked with Lane Construction and also at Queens Dairy in Pierrepont Manor for 27 years, retiring in 1994.

Born Aug. 28, 1935, in the town of Ellisburg, son of Frank and Mabel Hess Towles, he attended Belleville Central School and worked on the Machold Farm in Ellisburg for several years.

He married Lavina E. "Lee" Leween on May 1, 1957, in Frederick, Md. The couple moved to the Adams area following their wedding and to their home on Grove Street in 1968. Mrs. Towles died Nov. 8, 2001.

Among his hobbies were swimming, skiing, watching football and baseball, playing golf and woodworking in his shop.

Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Terrie and Dean LaLone, Adams, Lori Barney, Adams Center, Sandra and Harley McConnell, Theresa, and Lena and Ronald McBride, Ellisburg; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas, Jody, and Rick and Judy, all of Adams; three brothers, Donald, Watertown, Raymond, Adams, and Alan, Belleville; four sisters, Shirley Stewart and Ruby Jackson, both of Watertown, Ruth Peters, Adams Center, and Rosemary Hedger, Adams, 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

A son, Randy D., died Aug. 27 in Lexington, Ky., one of 49 people killed when the plane they were in crashed trying to take off from Blue Grass Airport. Two sisters, Eva Sochia and Iva Bartlett, and five brothers, Alfred, John, Frances, Bert and Ronald Towles, also died before him.

There will be no funeral. Burial will be at the family's convenience.

Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.
