19030 REV. D.C. HAVEN

The many friends of Rev. D.C. Haven will learn with regret of the death in Taylor, N.Y. on Thursday, August 3O, where lie had resided since his retirement from the active pastorate. He has, however, been preaching more or less regularly and attended church the preceding Sunday.

Elder Haven was well known, in the local community, and perhaps better known here than-elsewhere, since he was pastor of the Wesleyan. Methodist church of Boylston from 1893 to 1898 and of the Methodist Episcopal church at Goodenongh and the Center church hi this township in 1909-1910. Here his two children grew up, and the daughter married E.M. Hastings of Pulaski, but for many years a resident of Lacona.

19033 Rev. Erastus D. Cross - died January 14, 1886, age 55 years. Husband of Sarah Cross.

Newspaper Obituary - January 21, 1886 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In Redwood, New York, January 14, 1886, of quick consumption, Rev. Erastus D. Cross, in the 55th year of his age. Bro. Cross passed the larger part of his life in the town of Richland. He became a Christian in early life, and was ordained to the pastorate of the Palermo Baptist church some fourteen or fifteen years ago. Subsequently he served as pastor of the churches at South Richland, South Hannibal and Redwood. These pastorates, while making large demands for care and labor, were not able to furnish liberal support, thus testing our brother's strength too heavily; but he was always faithful, often doing an amount of work which would appall some who receive many times the salary given to Bro. Cross. He "died in the harness," continuing to preach up to a few weeks before his death. He was a lovely Christian character, and he was greatly beloved. Brief funeral services were held at Redwood on January 15. On January 16 another service was held at South Richland, where a large audience assembled to express their esteem for the deceased and their sympathy with his family. Burial took place in the cemetery on the Mexico road. Bro. Cross leaves a wife and four children and a large circle of friends to cherish his memory.

For nine years Mr. Wright has been its pastor, highly esteemed and greatly beloved by the congregation to whom he ministered. When the sad intelligence of the death of Mr. Wright was telegraphed to this place, Mr. King, accompanied by the eldest daughter of Mr. Wright, who had been spending the winter at the home of her grandfather, proceeded immediately to Xenia. The funeral services were attended on Saturday of last week. Memorial services are appointed for next Sabbath. The deeply afflicted congregation presented through their church officers, resolutions to Mrs. Wright, expressive not only of their tenderest sympathy in her bereavement, but also of the deep sense of their own great loss, and of high esteem and profound affection for their beloved pastor, in the recognition of his superior abilities as a preacher and earnest devotion as a pastor. The remains of Mr. Wright, with those of a son who died some two years since, are expected here on the return of Mr. King this week, to receive here in the village cemetery, their final interment.
