Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, November 24, 1964 Syracuse Herald Journal - Syracuse, New York - Retired Pastor's Rites Wednesday - Pulaski - The Rev. Frederick N. Crawford, 85, of Maple View, retired pastor of the Standard Church of America of Pulaski died yesterday at his home after a long illness. The Rev. Mr. Crawford was a native of Seneca Falls and joined the clergy of the Standard Church in 1913. He served in Niagara Falls, Malone, Flint, Michigan, Rosebush, Michigan and Stowe, Vermont. He retired three years ago. Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Bessie Brown Crawford, are: three sons, Frederick of Pulaski, Horace of Syracuse and William of Pulaski; two daughters, Mrs. Dorance Blow of North Bangor and Mrs. Orvis Fairchild of Fernwood, 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Pulaski Wesleyan Methodist Church. The Rev. B. W. Fleming and the Rev. Bernard Draper will officiate. Burial will be in Daysville Cemetery. Murtha Dies Suddenly Popular Power Company: Manager And Citizen Stricken While Hunting Amos J. Murtha, 47, popular manager of the Niagara, Lockport & Ontario Power Company, died suddenly while hunting With friends three miles south of Orwell, about Monday afternoon. Mr. Murtha,[unreadable] James Manwaring, companions of the hunting trip. Mr. Glover hurried to, the nearest farm house and telephoned a call to Dr. F. E. MacCallum while Mr. 111,anwaring remained with his friend and attemped to revive him, but the stricken man died, in a very few minutes. Dr. MacCallum pronounced death due to coronary thrombosis and the body was released to Paul K. Foster, local undertaker. Mr. Murtha was widely known throughout the entire eastern end of the county where his dutiei•brought him into daily contact with many people. He made friends easily and his thorough knowledge of the business he represented together with his unselfish interest in thedeyelopment and success of the commercial and industrial enterprises of the territory he served, made him a most valuable employee and citizen. lie came to Pulaski in' 1931 with his family and took charge of the 'keel ,office of the Power Company. He entered immediattlyjato the Cline affairs, of the village and 'was an active member of the' Chamber of Commerce. He served on many of, its cononittees and was instrumental in carrying through to a successful conclusion many of its most important projects. He was also a valuable member of the Pulaski Rod and Gun club, and an enthusiastic sportiman. He was a member of the Rome lodge of Elks and a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Catholic church of this village. He was a member of the local Boy Scout committee and took an active part in the proniotion of its work. Mr. Murtha was born in the city of Utica, August 3,. 1889, son of Michael and Mary Murtha. He received his early education at the Utica Free Acadepty. He began his career with the Utica Gas and Electric Co., later going to Rome as superintendent foil the local electric company, five years ago coming to Pulaski. He was 27 years in the service of electric power and lighting companies. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Loretta Shanley Murtha, five daughters and two sons, Misses'Rosemary, Helen, Anne, Agnes and Roberta; Robert and Francis. Helen is a freshman student in Nazareth college in Rochester and Francis a junior in Holy Cross college, Worcheater, Mass. The funeral will be' held from the home at 9:80 and at St. John's church at 10 o'clock Thursday morning. A solemn high mass will be conducted by the Rev. Francis .Shanley of Deposit, a brothe'r of Mrs. Murtha; Rev. RaYinond Loftis ' of Skaneateles; and Rev. Michael, J. Lyons, pastor of the local, church.The bearers will be Leo J. Reehford and Donald 'May, both of Oswego; Frank Huntley; Archie Edwards, Hubert Ingersoll and Simon Glover, all associate employees withMr. Murtha.
