19851 Services for Earl H. Coffin, 70, of Volney, who died Thursday, Dec. 28, at Oswego Hospital, were held Sunday. Spring burial will be in Riverside
Cemetery, Oswego. A native of Pulaski, Mr. Coffin was a life resident of the Oswego area. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, the former Florence Mazzoli; a daughter Peggy, a son Dan; two sisters, Genevieve Clark and Bertha Peashey.

19852 Services for Edward C. LaPoint, 74, of Pulaski, who died January 23 at his home after a long illness, were held January 26 at Goodfellow and Newell Funeral Home, Manlius, the Rev. Wallace A. Frey officiating. Burial was in the Manlius Cemetery. Mr. LaPoint was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Manlius. He is survived by two sons, Lt. Col. Robert F. LaPoint, of Pulaski and Sgt. 1/C Francis E. LaPoint of Manlius; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Hallett of Livonia, Michigan and Mrs. Mary L. Snee of Pittsford; a sister, Mrs. Lulu Winn of Chittenango, and nine grandchildren.

Seeley, all of Liverpool, and Lawrence and William R. Seeley, both of Syracuse; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Edward Wirth and Mrs. Elmer Owen, both of Liverpool, and Mrs. James Caudle of Pulaski, and several nieces and nephews.

19854 Services for Michael J. Mellen, age 51 who died Sunday of pneumonia at his home near Williamstown, were conducted at 9:30 o'clock Thursday a.m. in tie Catholic church by Rev. Baker of the Camden church. Burial in Holy Cross cemetery, Williamstown. Mr. Mellen was born in Albion, July 15, 1884, a son of James and Esther C. Mellon. He had resided all but the past two years in this town. Surviving are his wife, Blanche Anson Mellen and eleven children, Pauline, Catherine, James, Bernadine, Muriel, Margaret, Aurelia, Hollis, Beverly, Harlow and Jerry; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Kane of Utica; one brother, Bert Mellen of Mexico. The family have the sympathy of Altmar friends.

19855 Services for Minnie I. Joyner, 69, of Springbrook Apartments, who died Monday at her home, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell.

Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7385 Park St.

A native of Redfield, Mrs. Joyner lived in the Pulaski area 50 years. Her husband, Channie O., died in 1963.

Surviving are two sons, Hugh of Richland and Channie of Pulaski; four daughters, Gloria Cole, Verna Kranz and Watha Benway, all of Pulaski, and Debbie Curry of Lyons; 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

19856 Services were held Friday in Plymouth, Mich., for Mrs. Carol Wyman Hayman, 52, wife of Robert C. Hayman, who died Aug. 8, 1972 at Oak Wood Hospital, Dearborn, Mich.

Mrs. Hayman was born in Syracuse, June 7, 1920, daughter of Robert F. and Bessie McClary Wyman. As a child she lived with her parents on Long Island and in Pulaski, spending summers at their Sandy Pond camp.

Her grandfather, Eugene Wyman, started a grocery store at the Pond in 1922, which was later operated by her father. She married Robert C. Hayman and the couple would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in November. They had made their home in Plymouth, Mich., for the past six years.

Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Miss Susan Hayman of Plymouth; two sisters, Mrs. John (Yvonne) Parker and Ms. Jeanette Metchik, both of Pulaski; and a brother, Robert Wyman of Orwell.

Following cremation she will be buried in the Richland Cemetery, Foster-Hax making the local arrangements.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 3, 1917 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Orwell - After an illness of four weeks, S. Watson Aldrich passed away, Saturday, April 28, aged 70 years. In September, 1863, he enlisted and was mustered in Company L, Twentieth New York Cavalry, where he served three years. He was a member of the G.A.R. and of Welcome Lodge No. 680, I.O.O.F. Mr. Aldrich is survived by his wife, two sons, William and Frank, one daughter, Mrs. Mollie Dennie, and several grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. H. Stokes and Rev. T. T. Davies in the home Tuesday afternoon and burial made in Evergreen Cemetery. The Odd Fellows attended in a body and conducted the committal service at the grave.

Gates died at his home on Saturday of pneumonia, having been ill less than a week. He was born sixty-six years ago on the farm where he died, and had been a lifelong resident of the town. He had served as a school trustee and for seventeen years preceding his death was town constable. Mr. Gates never married and is survived by a brother, two sisters, a half-brother and a half-sister. The funeral will be held at the home at one p.m. Tuesday. Burial in the Willis cemetery, South Richland.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, July 12, 1916 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Prominent Farmer Passes Away - Seymour J. Fox, 58, a well-known resident of the town of Richland, died Monday morning at his home at Fox Corners, east of this village, following a surgical operation performed Sunday. Several weeks ago he underwent an operation for appendicitis and seemed to be on the road to recovery, having rallied and was about his farm. A second operation became necessary. Mr. Fox was born in Pulaski September 22, 1857, and had always lived in this town, for many years following the life of a farmer. He was a son of the late Justus D. Fox, and was a member of Pulaski Grange, No. 730, Patrons of Husbandry. Surviving besides the widow are two sons, Arnold B. Fox, living in Oregon, and Jay B. Fox of Mankato, Minnesota, and two daughters, Mrs. Frank W. Lane of Pulaski and Miss Gladys Fox, who lives at the Fox home. A sister, Mrs. Henry Tuttle lives at Lacona. The funeral will be held at one o'clock at the home and at two o'clock at the M. E. church, Saturday. Rev. A. P. Palmer officiating.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday Evening, December 14, 1911 Oswego Daily Palladium - Oswego, New York - Well Known Citizen Dead ¬Seymour N. Hibbard, Former Oswegonian, Dead in Pulaski - Pulaski, December 14 - After an illness of several months the death of Seymour N. Hibbard occurred yesterday afternoon at his home in Court street. Mr. Hibbard was one of Pulaski's best known residents, having lived here for many years. He was born in Henderson, Jefferson county, June 17, 1844, and at the age of twenty years enlisted in Company G, 184th Regiment, New York Volunteers, serving the closing year of the Civil War. He received an honorable discharge at Syracuse and sometime later engaged in the milling business at Texas. Later he followed farming for some years. Mr. Hibbard was for eight years connected with the City Alms House at Oswego, at the end of which time he returned to Pulaski and had since made his home here, resuming farming for a time. Shortly after the death of George Pond, overseer of the poor of this town, which occurred about thirteen years ago, Mr. Hibbard was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Mr. Pond and at each town meeting he had been re-elected to that office, the present term expiring with the end of this month. Mr. Hibbard was a past commander of J. B. Butler Post No. 111, G. A. R., and a member of Pulaski Grange No. 730, Patrons of Husbandry. He was twice married, his second wife, by whom he is survived, being Mrs. Calista Burch, mother of former Deputy Sheriff Calvin B. Burch. A brother, Charles B. Hibbard, lives in Sandy Creek. The funeral will be held tomorrow at two p.m.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, July 13, 1910 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Seymour Ward, aged seventy-five years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Isaac Rowell, Wednesday evening. He was a native of Antwerp, but had resided in this village going on half a century. He was actively engaged at his trade until failing health compelled him to retire. He was a good mechanic and had been employed much in the rebuilding of Pulaski. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Isaac Rowell, of this village; Mrs. Benjamin Woods and Mrs. Isaac Field, of Rochester, and four sisters and one brother. The funeral was held from the residence, Saturday, at two o'clock.

Hamblin Rites Held at Altmar

Last rites for Mrs. Harriet B. Hamblin, 77, widow of George Hambin, who died Friday at the home of her son, Dayton Hamblin in Schenectady, were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Brown funeral home in Altmar. The Rev. Harley S. Hill, pastor of the Altmar Methodist church officiated, with interment in Riverside cemetery at Altmar. She had been in ill health the past three months and had been staying with her son.

Surviving besides the son in Schenectady are another son, Cyrus Hamblin of Lowville; a brother, Frank Austin of Southampton, L.I.; two sisters, Mrs. Flora Millard, Watertown, and Mrs. Avis Griffin, of Corning; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Hamblin was born in Altmar, June 15, 1877, daughter of
Cyras and Ida Campbell Austin. She was a member of the Altmar Methodist church and of the W.S.C.S. of the church. She had spent her entire life in Altmar.

Sharon A. Sampson, 62, of 120 Bridge St., died Tuesday at her home.

Mrs. Sampson was a janitor for Pulaski Academy and Central School for six years, retiring in 1995.

She was a lifelong resident of Altmar and a member of Richland Church of Christ.

Born Sept. 12, 1940, in the town of Albion, daughter of William and Arlene Trumble, she attended Altmar schools.

A marriage to Kenneth Dupont ended in divorce.

She married William A. Sampson on Aug. 25, 1984. He died Sept. 12, 2000.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth and Ronald Dupont, both of Altmar; two daughters, Tina Thurston, Altmar, and Tammy Henry, Orwell; five stepsons, Kenneth and Frank Sampson, both of Ogdensburg, Mark Sampson, Altmar, Scott Sampson, Williamstown, and Glenn Sampson, Natural Bridge; six sisters, Jean Baird, Mattydale, Pauline Haynes, Orwell, Beulah Yerdon, Sandy Creek, and June Bice, Jane Trumble and Charlene Wells, all of Altmar; five brothers, John, David and Frank Trumble, all of Altmar, George Trumble, Sandy Creek, and Harry Trumble, Orwell, 27 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A son, Gary Dupont, died Aug. 29, 2001.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Paul Windhausen officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Altmar.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

CAPE VINCENT, NY - Sharon E. Connell, 80, of Cape Vincent, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, at her home under the care of her family, friends and Hospice of Jefferson County.
A service at the United Church of Cape Vincent will be held in the near future at a date and time to be announced. Burial will be in the Depauville Cemetery.
Sharon was born Aug. 30, 1940, in the front room of her parent’s stone house on Route 180, just outside of LaFargeville, NY, the daughter of Stewart and Eva Nichols Van Alstyne.
She graduated from LaFargeville School in 1958 and later from the Watertown School of Commerce. In 1959, Sharon started working at Mercy Hospital as a Telephone Operator, working for Sister Pierre.
On April 7, 1962, Sharon married Sergeant First Class Denis J. Connell of Baltimore, Maryland. The wedding ceremony was at the home of her parents.
After starting a family, Sharon went back to work in 1975 at the Mercy Hospital Extension Clinic. This job was as the medical receptionist, which lasted 35 years, retiring in 2011.
Most people remember Mom’s smile and kind words when they came to the clinic.
Sharon was an active member of the United Church of Cape Vincent. She was the choir director, Lay leader, board chair, to name a few duties.
She enjoyed working at the Hotdog Stand with her friends during French Festival. A lot of laughs and fellowship were shared.
She also enjoyed singing in the choir and with the singing group, The Hymns and Hers, from Alexandria Bay. Sharon was a former member of the LaFargeville Grange when she was younger.
Sharon enjoyed gardening, horse pulls, draft horse shows, going to lunch with her girlfriends from school, and spending time with her family. At home she enjoyed listening to her country music. George Strait and Randy Travis were a couple of her favorites. She also enjoyed old westerns and anything with John Wayne.
Surviving are a daughter, Cathleen (Terry) Snyder, Cape Vincent; a son, Joseph Connell, Cape Vincent; a brother, Eugene VanAlstyne of Depauville; nieces and nephews.
Sharon was predeceased by her husband of 24 years, Denis J. Connell, her son, James S. Connell, her nephews, Melvin Walti and Gary Stewart, and siblings, Walter A. Stewart, Ella May Kendrat, Winifred Ostrander, Doris Matthews, Margaret Daly, Lois Getman, and Pauline Walti.

Sharon J. Isham, age 59, life resident of Pulaski, passed away Sunday at her home. Sharon was born August 14, 1957 in Oswego. She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1976. Sharon married Raymond N. Isham on May 22, 1976 and he passed away May 28, 2015.
Surviving are three sons, Jeffrey (Shannon) Isham of Baldwinsville, James (Tammy Sperling) Isham of Pulaski and Jason Isham of Central Square, her mother, Arlene McConnell, two stepsons, Raymond Isham of Tennessee, and John (Susan) Isham of Maine, NY, five brothers, four sisters and two grandchildren, Ryan and Noah.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 27, at the Greater Victory Fellowship Church, County Route 2, Orwell, with burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Sharon was born July 10, 1946 in Camden, NY to Ralph Ware and Elizabeth Snell. She was a graduate of Sandy Creek High School. Sharon married James Ladouceur in 1984. She owned and operated That Darn Yarn Shop and later Knit Wits Diner in Orwell for many years.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and her dog Braxton.

Surviving are her three children; Tamara, Trish (Brian) Hull, and Sevre (Jessica); siblings Duane (Sharon) Snell, Etta Denny and Laura Lombardo and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband James and three brothers, Ralph Snell, Sidney Shaw and William Shaw.

19878 Sharon M. Wright, age 62, resident of Pulaski for the past 10 years, formerly of Sandy Creek and West Amboy passed away Wednesday at Crouse Irving Hospital in Syracuse. Sharon was born October 22, 1953 in Syracuse, the daughter of Solomon and Marjorie Rahrle Richardson. She attended APW High School. Sharon married Roger Wright on May 10, 1970.

Surviving are her husband Roger, one daughter, Crystal Wright of Reading, PA, two sons, Jack Wright of Elizabeth City, NC and Shawn Wright of Pulaski, two sisters, Cindy Smith of Parish and Ramona McNitt of Williamstown, two brothers, Alan Richardson of Parish and Leon Richardson of Blossvale, and three grandchildren. Sharon was predeceased by one son Roger and one sister, Rosemary Henderson both who passed away in 2013.

She was born to the late Howard and Agnes Coates on June 23, 1947, in Syracuse, New York. Spending time with family was Sharon’s passion and delight. She loved everyone around her unconditionally and never asked anything in return. She was a devoted wife and mother and wanted everything for her Children, Husband and Family. As a Champion of the family, she taught others to realize their personal strengths and the importance of being yourself. A favorite quote of hers was “Normal is Boring”. She will always be cherished for her quirky sense of humor and confident disposition. Sharon took pride in being thrifty and appreciated a quick wit. She enjoyed tending to her plants and loved reading books. She was often heard quoting from her favorite books, which included “Life, the Universe and Everything”. Sharon was married in Lubbock, TX on June 7, 1979 and is survived by her loving Husband, Jose Rocha, to whom she was married for 38 years, her Son Chris, and her two Daughters, Michelle and Andrea. She is also survived by her Brother Howard, and her two Sisters, Emily, and Sandy. She had many loving Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. We will always cherish and never forget the time we had together. The funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Beck Funeral Home located at 4765 Priem Lane Pflugerville, Texas 78660. Shawn Eric Fleury, 40, of Central Square, passed away March 11, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his father, Gerald Henderson of South Carolina, his two beautiful children, Eric Joseph, aged 15 and Juliana Francine, aged 8, his partner Abby Priolo, and the mother of his children, friend, and partner of 18 years, Jen Kaufman, a beloved Aunt Melody, Aunt Christine, and cousin David (Roxan) in Florida, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Yvonne Fleury-Rios. Shawn built a successful career as the owner of CNY Electrical, loved hunting, fishing, four wheeling, snowmobiling, boating, camping, his sports car, attending SU and Giants football games, and spending time with family. His favorite thing most of all was his children. Being a dad was his favorite accomplishment in life.
Services will be held Saturday, March 18th from 2:00-4:00pm at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home. 209 N. Main Street North Syracuse, NY 13212. A celebration of life for his friends to be planned soon.

19881 Shay Danial Grindstaff, age 69, 184 Poplar Hill Dr., Johnson City, died Monday, August 13, 2007, in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Clayton C. and Dora Stout Grindstaff. Mr. Grindstaff was a member of the College Park Free Will Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was retired from American Water Heater and also had worked as a carpenter. Mr. Grindstaff was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Grindstaff, three brothers, Robert, J.B. and Dayton Grindstaff and four sisters, Ruby Laughlin, Hildred Taylor, Lucille Taylor and Juanita Grindstaff. Survivors include two daughters, Melinda Rupert, Tarpon Springs, FL, Paula Holloway, Johnson City, two sons, Danial Grindstaff, Kevin Grindstaff, both of Johnson City, nine grandchildren, two sisters, Frances Taylor, Jettie Grindstaff, both of Elizabethton, and one brother, Landon Grindstaff, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Grindstaff will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 14 in the Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Matthew Guy, Rev. David Morgan and Rev. Clate Briggs officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 15, in Wilson Cemetery, Elizabethton. Everyone is asked to meet the family at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Wednesday for the service. Active pallbearers will be Aaron Bishop, Bradley Gothard, Doug Holloway, Graylon Grindstaff and others selected from family and friends. Lydia B. Wood, 90, of Route 38, RD 2, Cato, New York died unexpectedly Monday morning, July 13, 1987 at the home of her daughter following a long illness.

Born in the Town of Conquest September 20, 1896 the daughter of Wyman A. and Flora M. Hutchins Moore and was a life resident of the Conquest, Cato & Victory area. She was employed many years at the Red Creek Canning Company and the former Barr Typewriter Company in Weedsport. She attended the Victory United Methodist Church and was the widow of Charles H. Wood, who died in 1960.

She is survived by; a daughter, Mrs. Flora Bell DeForest Stockman of Cato; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wood will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 1987 at the Jewell Funeral Home, South Street, Cato with the Rev. Phillip Bornheimer, Pastor of Victory United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Fairdale Cemetery, Hannibal, New York.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lydia Bennett Smith of Kingston, widow of Robert N. Smith, died of general debility at her home on Plymouth street at 7 o'clock on Sunday morning. She was the daughter of Josiah and Sarah Taylor Bennett and was born in Hanover Feb. 6, 1813.
The family was originally from Connecticut and was among the first settlers of Wyoming Valley.
Mrs. Smith was united with the Methodist church when only 12 years of age and had always been a consistent Christian and had endeared herself to those who knew her best by her courage in affliction and patience in suffering.
She is survived by the following children: Sarah, at home; J. Bennett of Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. Perry C. Rozelle of Mt. Zion and Samuel R. at home.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment in the family plot at Forty Fort. Services will be conducted at the house by Rev. L.C. Murdock, assisted by Rev. F. von Krug.
Many ancestors of deceased were in the Wyoming massacre and the history of this valley is replete with incidents connected with the family.

Forty Fort Cemetery lost several graves to flooding after Hurricane Agnes in 1972. I believe hers is one of the graves lost as listed in the In Memoriam section. There is a Mrs. Smith listed in Lot 533, the same lot where Mrs. J. Bennett Smith and her husband John Bennett Smith are buried. John Bennett Smith (or J. Bennett) was Lydia's son.

She received her Christian education from Union College in Schenectady, NY. She was Director of Education for Calvary Episcopal Church in Utica, NY. Conny hosted the Party Time television show and others on NBC Network for several years, beginning in 1949. She was actually among the pioneers of the television screen. Conny also was a talented artist. Her paintings are in public and personal collections throughout the United States. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, the Florida Council of the Blind, and a Charter member of the Shipmates of the Vero Beach Yacht Club.
