A member of the Swarthmore faculty from 1952 to 1977, Brodhead started the education program for the training and certification of primary and secondary teachers. During her years at the College, she established relations with a number of area school districts, mentored hundreds of students, and served as head of Media-Providence Friends School. Obliged to retire at 65, she took a full-time job on a research project studying retirement and aging in the United States.

She retired from Swarthmore in 1977 as a professor in the department of psychology. Mrs. Brodhead was born in Sunbury, Pa., and moved to Philadelphia, graduating in 1929 from Overbrook High School. She studied at the University of Pennsylvania and earned an undergraduate degree in 1933 and a master's degree in 1934, both in English literature.
