Shaw, Sr., 70, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning at his home in Maple Ave. He had been in poor health for several years. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Taylor Funeral Home with the Rev. W. Russell Clark of Park Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Richland Cemetery with military rites by Robert Edward Post 358, American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Laura Gregory Shaw; four sons, Sidney of Orwell and Thomas, Jr., Harold and George Shaw of Pulaski; one daughter Mrs. LeRoy (Etta Mae) Cosilmon of Richland; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Shaw was born November 3, 1890 in the Town of Hounsfield, Jefferson County, the son of Sidney and Stella Belcher Shaw. He came to Pulaski in 1919 and was married to Miss Laura Gregory at Adams Center, June 18, 1920. Following their marriage, they had lived in the Pulaski vicinity. Mr. Shaw had been employed as a meat cutter at the Pulaski Cold Storage Plant until five years ago when ill health forced him to retire. Prior to that he had operated a farm in the vicinity. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Robert Edwards Post 358 American Legion and attended the Park Methodist Church. June 6, 1961 - Thomas Sidney Shaw, age 70 years. Mr. Carpenter was a volunteer of the Ringgold Fire Co. of Pulaski, retiring after 20 years of service, a member of the Pulaski Masons, Scottish Rite, Media Shrine Club of Watertown and a past member of the Oswego County Shrine Bike Patrol, Oswego Elks Club and the Pulaski Lions Club. Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Bonnie Cunningham Carpenter; one daughter, Bonney Gugino of Pulaski; two sons, Thomas R. (Debbie) of Pulaski and Timothy C. "Jane" Britton Wheeler, he attended Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School. A marriage ended in divorce. He was a longtime resident of Altmar, moving to Baldwinsville in 2004. Surviving are five daughters, Teresa Noack, Baldwinsville, Tammi Farrell, Stewart, Fla., Traci Wheeler, Pulaski, Tanya Martin, Conway, S.C., and Kandice Farias, Indiantown, Fla.; two sisters, Ladonna Lake, Richland, and Linda Tanner, Williamstown; two brothers, Robert, Williamstown, and James, Altmar, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. | 20906 | Thomas was born at home at 1963 west 57th street in Cleveland Ohio. His father Richard was born in county Meath Ireland and his mother Mary Terry was born in Kent Ohio. Thomas was baptized at Saint Stephens church on west 54th street in Cleveland Ohio. Thomas had four siblings Donald, John, Rita, and Edwin. His brother John died at the age of ten months. Tommy's mother and grandmother Margaret Sullivan Terry died of pneumonia only three hours apart in 1928. His brothers Donald and Edwin went to Parma Dale, a boy's home. Rita and Tommy went to live with the Keller family on west 54th street right across from Saint Stephens church. When Tommy turned five years old he went to Parma Dale to be with his brothers. Rita stayed with the Keller family. In the 1930 census all the boys in Parma Dale were listed as inmates. Richard married Mrs. Keller's sister Francis Kramer at Saint Stephens church in 1933. Together again and living on west 50th street only a block from Saint Stephens. The boy's spent many hot summer day's working in a very large garden that was on an empty lot next to the house . Before the war he worked as a mailman and a baker. He told me about dogs chasing him for a mile when delivering mail on west 130th street in Cleveland. And the large ovens were he would bake 100's of loaves of bread in a day on west 117th street in Cleveland. On the 15th of March 1944 Tommy joined the Marine corps. He was able to spend some time with his sister in San Diego before he shipped out to the south Pacific. Rita was in the Army air corp. He was wounded at the battle of Okinawa. Later he was part of the occupation of Japan. He was able to get a discharge from the Marines on the 27th of July 1946 after finding out his father was dying. Tommy was a Merchant Marine, and then drove a taxi after the war, then he joined the bricklayers union. In 1956 he was appointed recording secretary of the bricklayers union. In 1957 Tommy married Rita Lehman at Saint Patrick's church, she lived next to his brother Edwin, on west 41st street. Rita and Tommy had four children Dennis, Mary, Maureen, and Patrick. He was born on December 26, 1929, to the late Dana Lilford and Nina Easter Davis Garland. In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by an infant sister, Winnie Lee; two additional sisters: Frieda Noens and Cherene Nichols; brothers: D.L. Garland and Del Garland; and a very special military friend, Dale L. Jackson. Tommy was a retired carpenter and building contractor, was the former Superintendent of the Town of Mountain City Public Works and former operator of Shell Service Station of Mountain City. He was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church and a United States Army Veteran. Tommy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane Garland; daughter: Beverly and husband, Carter Baker, of Bristol, VA, and Mandy L. Garland and Dennis Greene, of Butler, TN; sons: Michael K. Garland, of CA, James L. Garland and wife, Debbie, of Abingdon, VA, David L. Garland and wife, Karen, of Johnson City, TN, Andy Garland and Saul B. Garland, both of Mountain City, TN; brothers: Dearl Garland, of CA, and Gary Garland and wife, Donna, of Greeneville, TN; grandchildren: Courtney Garland, Preston Garland, Brantlee Garland, Bethany Garland, Zachary Greene, Karter Beth Baker, Gracie Baker and Melissa Brown; and several nieces and nephews. Tracie worked as a florist for 13 years at Trust Nursery in Pulaski, and later worked in patient care for the Jefferson Rehabilitation Center for 8 years in Adams Center. Tracie is survived by her parents, Ronald and Lena McBride, husband Dean Moyer, three sons Gary Mullin II, Ronnie Mullin, & Gage Moyer, and two sisters Rhonda McBride-Spicer & Mary Herrera.
