Hall, 81, of 179 Oneida St., formerly of Chadwicks and Bernhards Bay, died Nov. 10, 1958, in a Rome hospital after a long illness.He was born Nov. 20, 1876, in Amboy, son of John and Mary Jane Hall and had lived in the Chadwicks -Washington Mills area for the past 42 years.Mr. Hall married Flora Parker of Bernhards Bay Sept. 18, 1897. She died in 1915. On Nov. 29, 1916, he married Harriett Miller of Amboy. She died Nov. 1, 1951. Since then, he had lived with his step-daughter, Mrs. Charles Burmaster, Washington Mills.

Mr. Hall was employed by the former Standard Silk Co., Chadwicks, and the former Utica Willowvale Bleachery Co. He retired several years ago. He was a Methodist.

Besides Mr. Burmaster, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. William Bristol, Utica; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 Thursday from the Francis W. Fisk Funeral Home, 220 Oneida St., Chadwicks, with the Rev. Calvin F. Zimmer pastor of the Willowvale Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Constantia Center Cemetery.

GEORGE N. SHAFTY DIES AT CHAMPION
WELL KNOWN FARMER HAD JUST REACHED THREE SCORE AND TEN.
Carthage, Oct. 22--The death of George Nicholas Shafty occurred at his home at Champion about 9 last night. Mr. Shaufty was 70 years of age. He was born in Watertown, but had lived on a farm at Champion since childhood.
Mr. Shaufty was the son of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth Shaufty. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elisabeth E. Shaufty, and nine children; Izora Shaufty, Champion; Nellie M. DeLong, Lacona; Clara J. Lowry, Sackets Harbor; Bertha M. Hastings, Carthage; George N. Jr., Champion, Jessie Alice, Lacona; Elisabeth E. White, Pulaski, Nicholas J., Denmark; Edith Nemier and Gertrude Nemeir, Lacona. The funeral will be held from the late home Tuesday at 2. Rev. R. B. Perrine, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating. Interment will be made in the cemetery at Great Bend.

RETIRED DEER RIVER MAN DIES
Nicholas J. Shafty, 85, Stricken with Heart Attack--Rites Sunday.
Deer River, Feb. 18--Nicholas J. Shafty, 85, a retired Deer River farmer, died of a heart attack in the emergency room of the Lewis County General hospital, Lowville, this morning at 9:45.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Deer River Congregational church. Burial will be in Deer River cemetery.
Friends may call at the family home Friday and Saturday.
Surviving Mr. Shafty are his wife, Mrs. Emma Houghton Schantz Shafty, a daughter, Mrs. John (Emma) Zecher, Denmark; a sister, Mrs. Nelson Hastings, Carthage. Three grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Shafty was born in the town of Boylston, Sept. 24, 1879, a son of the late George and Elizabeth Reed Shafty. He moved to Great Bend in 1901 and the following year moved to Denmark where he operated a farm until his retirement in 1946, when he moved to Deer River.
He married Miss Josephine Dunbar, Nov. 6, 1901, in Boylston. She died Feb. 17, 1955. On March 24, 1959, he married Mrs. Emma Houghton Schantz at her Denmark home.
Mr. Shafty was a member of the Deer River Congregational church, a past master of Denmark Grange 535 and a past officer of the G. L. F.

T. Richard Blount, 85, of 70 Miller Road, died Saturday at Seneca Hill Manor, Oswego.

Mr. Blount was a millwright at Crouse Hinds Co., Syracuse, and was also a manager at of several furniture companies, retiring in 1992.

He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for many years, serving as a scout master for 15 years. He was also a member of the board of Woodlawn Cemetery Association, volunteered at Ainsworth Memorial Library and was an active member of Community Park Association, all of Sandy Creek.

Born March 13, 1920, in the town of Sandy Creek, son of F. Leland and Doris Blount, he graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1937 and later graduated from New York State Ranger School at Wanakena. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army from 1943 to 1946, and also served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for 13 summers.

He married the former Helen Salisbury 63 years ago.

Surviving besides his wife are two daughters and their husbands, Bonita and David Rubenstein, Mount Tremper, and Diane and James Casey, Sandy Creek; six sons and four daughters-in-law, Jerrold and Michele, Jacksonville, Fla., Raymond and Kathy, Salinas, Calif., and Leslie and Laurette, Daniel, John, and James and Cheryl, all of Lacona; 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

An infant son, Wayne Leland, and a brother, Derrill, died before him.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with the Rev. Mary Drake officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Carl G. Whipple, 78, of Springbrook Apartments, died Saturday in Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse.
Private services will be conducted by the Rev. Melvyn Connell, pastor of the Sandy Creek Wesleyan Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Wesleyan Cemetery, Lacona.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek.
Surviving are his wife, Dicia; four daughters, Carol White, Adams Center, Diane Sperling, Sandy Creek, Christal Goodsell, Pulaski, and Denise Cofer, Germantown, Md.; a son, David,
Lacona, and 10 grandchildren.
Five brothers and a sister died before him.
Born on July 3, 1916, in Rochester, a son of William and Pearl Parker Whipple, he attended Whitesboro schools and married Dicia Briggs on Aug. 30, 1946, in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Whipple lived in Sandy Creek for several years and in Pulaski for the past three years. He was a retired self-employed carpenter.

Shirley M. Butchino, 61, of 70 Sherman Lacy Road, died Wednesday at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, after a long illness.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Caughdenoy United Methodist Church, Hastings, with the Rev. Tom Montgomery officiating. Spring burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Dugway.

Butchino, Oswego; her mother, Marie Loveall, Fulton; four brothers, Harold Loveall, Liverpool, Fred and Cecil Loveall, both of Fulton, and Cleatus Loveall, West Monroe; four sisters, Delores Buddy, West Monroe, Sharon Guarerra and Shelly Bough, both of Fulton, and Sheila Ferriter, Granby; 16 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Born July 26, 1934, in Fulton, daughter of Cleatus and Opal Beck Loveall, she lived in Pulaski for many years. She was a bookkeeper for Butchino Furniture Sales and Installation and formerly was employed with General Electric Co., Liverpool.
Mrs. Butchino was a member of Caughdenoy United Methodist Church and the Parish chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly.

Josephine Miller, 90, of 585 Sherman Road, died Thursday at Lorretto Heights Nursing Home, Oswego.
Mrs. Miller was a typesetter and Linotype operator at the Pulaski Democrat newspaper for several years and also worked at Jack's Restaurant for several years.
She was a member of Pulaski Wesleyan Church.
Born May 1, 1912, in Adams Center, a daughter of Michael and Kathrina Mueller Weber, she attended Watertown schools.
Mrs. Miller lived in Pulaski and Rodman, moving to Mexico in 1973.
She married Walter "Bud" Miller at June 7, 1963, at the Congregational Church of Pulaski with the Rev. Donald Swartout officiating. Mr. Miller, a mechanic, died Nov. 24, 1999. Mrs. Miller had been married previously.
Surviving are a son, Edward Moyer, Fulton; three stepsons, Steve Miller, Mexico, Wayne Miller, Wikieup, Ariz., and Earl Miller, Pea Ridge, Ark.; two stepdaughters, Ann Whitlock, Mascotte, Fla., and Lori Leese, Carnation, Wash.; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.

Surviving are two sons, Elvin D., Cleveland, and Duane R., Orwell; two daughters, Betty D. Martin, Orwell, and Nancy L. Trust, Pulaski; 22 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Born February 21, 1907, in Orwell, son of Miles and Lillian Hilton Blodgett, he was a life resident of Orwell. He married Dorothea M. Butts July 11, 1925. Mrs. Blodgett died June 7, 1991.
Mr. Blodgett retired in 1969 after 30 years with the town of Orwell Highway Department. He had also been employed by the former Oswego County Sanitarium and the Ed Barke Ladder Co.
He was a former town justice and a member of the Orwell town board.
Mr. Blodgett was a member of Orwell Union Church and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a life member of Pulaski Lodge 315, Free and Accepted Masons, and an honorary member of Orwell Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former Boy Scout leader and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Harold W. Blodgett, 89, of County Route 2 died Thursday at home after a brief illness.

Mr. Blodgett was a life resident of Orwell. He retired in 1969 after 30 years with the town of Orwell Highway Department. Mr. Blodgett also had been employed with the former Oswego County Sanitarium and the Ed Barke Ladder Co. He formerly served as town justice and as a member of the Orwell Town Board. His wife, Dorothea M., died in 1991.

Mr. Blodgett was a member of Orwell Union Church and the International Order of Odd Fellows. He was a life member of Pulaski Lodge 315, F&AM, and an honorary member of Orwell Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former Boy Scout leader. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Surviving are two sons, Elvin D. of Cleveland and Duane R. of Orwell; two daughters, Betty D. Martin of Orwell and Nancy L. Trust of Pulaski; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Elkin served in the Navy as a deep sea diver from 1943 to 1946.
He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge 650, F.&A.M., Williamstown, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8191, Melbourne, and a member of the American Legion Post 163 in Melbourne.

A native of Centerville, Mr. Elkin lived in Orwell before moving to Melbourne in 1964. He was a bulk milk carrier for several years and later owned several businesses in Florida. Mr. Elkin was a 1940 graduate of Sandy Creek High School.

Mr. Elkin was a former member of Local 545, International Union of Operating Engineers, and a life member of Williamstown Lodge 650, F&AM. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a deep-sea diver. Mr. Elkin was a member of Melbourne Post 8191, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Melbourn Post 163, American Legion.

Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; two daughters, Patricia Potter of Orwell and Jean Taplin of Richland; a brother, Harry of Lacona; two sisters, Marion Kenway of Orwell and Anna Mae Walker of Brandywine, Md.; and six grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to the Orwell Fire Department.

Born Jan. 24, 1934, in Pulaski, daughter of Orlando and Gladys Smith Mowers, she attended Pulaski schools and was a lifelong resident of Pulaski.
A marriage ended in divorce.
Surviving are a son, James E. Jr., Pulaski; a daughter, Katherine A. Clifford, Cape Cod, Mass.; two brothers, Ronald Mowers, Pulaski, and Joseph Mowers, California; a sister, Leda Beh, Ontario, eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

Born in Daysville on Oct. 12, 1903, a daughter of George and Elnora Richardson Mason, she attended schools in the Town of Richland.
She married Floyd C. Smith July 1, 1922, in Parish.
The couple had resided in Richland since 1940, where Mr. Smith worked as a farmer and carpenter. A native of Scranton, Pa., Mr. Smith died in December 1971, at the age of 71.

Merrill V. “Squirrel” Waggoner, 19, County Route 2, died Thursday in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.

Mr. Waggoner died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The incident occurred at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday at his home.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, Richland, with the Rev. Dr. A. Douglas Ferry, pastor, and the Rev. Thomas Howell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Born April 10, 1971, in Watertown, a son of George S. and Ruth Haynes Waggoner, he was a 12th grade student at Sandy Creek Central School, due to graduate in June.

Mr. Waggoner had been named to the merit and honor rolls at the school, and was a member of the varsity wrestling team in 1989. He had also completed a masonry course at the Oswego County Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

Mr. Waggoner was employed by Paulanjo’s Pizza, Pulaski.

Mr. Ackerman was an engineer with Allied Chemical in Solvay, retiring in 1983 after 33 years of service.
Born June 12, 1918, in Baltimore, Md., son of Henry and Annie Martin Ackerman, he moved to Pine Meadows Road in 1948. He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.
He married Rose V. Ray on May 27, 1944. She died Nov. 21, 1996.
Surviving are three daughters, Rosemary F. Reale, Syracuse, Joan C. Johnson, Cicero, and Judyann B. Grant, Sandy Creek; two sons, James R. and Larry T., both of Altmar, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Obleman was a secretary at Chase Insurance Agency, Sandy Creek, and Fuller Insurance Agency here before her retirement.
Born Oct. 25, 1916, in Mannsville, daughter of Hugh and Lottie Brown Veley, she was a 1934 graduate of Mannsville-Manor High School and a 1938 graduate of Diebert's Business School, Philadelphia.
Mrs. Obleman was a founding member of the United Friends of Homeless Animals, Pulaski, and a charter member of Cable Trail Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8534 Auxiliary.
She married Robert E. Obleman on Oct. 5, 1940, at her parents' home in Mannsville with the Rev. Miles Hutchinson of Belleville officiating. The couple had lived in Lacona for 50 years.
Surviving besides her husband are a brother, Hugh Veley Jr., Mannsville, and several nieces and nephews.
Three sisters, Blanche, Hermione and Ruth, and a brother, Corydon Veley, died before her.
A graveside service was held Saturday in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek, with the Rev. Charles Henderson III, pastor of Zion Episcopal Church, Pierrepont Manor, officiating.

A native of Ogdensburg, Mr. Ladouceur graduated from Ogdensburg High School. Mr. Lacouceur has lived in northern Oswego County since 1960. He was an electrician and was employed out of IBEW Local 910 in Watertown. He retired four years ago due to ill health.

For the past three years, Mr. Ladouceur and his wife operated Knit-Wits' Diner in Orwell. He is a Korean War veteran and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-57. He was a member of the Adams American Legion Post and the Oswego Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Shaw of Orwell; three daughters, Tamara and Trisha, both of Orwell, and Mrs. Lynn Felio of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sons, Sevre of Orwell, and Cletus of Casselberry, Fla.; three sisters, Sherri Belge of Jamesville, N.Y., Jean Hollis of Ogdensburg, and Carol Gloska of North Carolina; a brother, Roy of Texas; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Born Jan. 30, 1922, in Hamblin, W.Va., daughter of Louis and Bessie DeWitt Frye, she attended school at Indianhead, Md.
She married Louis H. Lake on July 15, 1940. Mr. Lake, an Oswego County Highway Department retiree, died Nov. 17, 1984.

Mr. Gushlaw worked as a foreman in the gas department of Niagara Mohawk for 31 years, retiring in 1981.
He had been the leader of a local band, Country,'' which later became the Country Sunshine'' band. Mr. Gushlaw was also a member of the Black River Valley Fiddlers and American Legion 588, Brownville.

He was employed at Douglaston Manor Farm as manager for 14 years, retiring in 1989. He previously owned and operated a painting contracting business in Pulaski for 25 years.
Mr. Otis was town of Richland supervisor for the past seven years.
He married Vawn Bonney April 16, 1952, in Camden Methodist Church with the Rev. Carlton G. Van Ornum, then pastor, officiating.
Mr. Otis was a member and past president of the Pulaski school board from 1969 to 1976.
In 1957, he helped organize the Pulaski Little League program. He served as president and was also a manager and umpire for many years. The present Little League field is named Otis Field in honor of his years of service.

Mr. Cavellier had resided in North Syracuse for the last 27 years. He was an industrial arts and technical education teacher in the Lyncourt School System for 15 years, retiring in 1995. Previously, he taught in the Syracuse City School District for six years.

He was a member of the New York State United Teachers, attended St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse, and was a wood- working specialist.

Born July 20, 1945, in Watertown, he was the son of Edward Leo and Mary Lou Woodruff Cavellier.

He graduated from Cortland State University College in 1967 and Oswego State University College in 1969 and completed certification graduate studies at Oswego College in 1971.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Barbara L. Dubin Cavellier, and two sons, Matthew A., Amenia, and Lee, Syracuse.

A sister, Catherine M. Wilder, died Dec. 18.

Mr. Green was a member of Friday Nite Couples Bowling League and previously had bowled in other leagues. He was a charter member of the Oswego County ATV Club, a longtime supporter of Pulaski Little League and an umpire for many years. Surviving besides his wife are a sister, Linda E. Frank, Pulaski; a brother, Fred Learned, Lakeland, Fla., four nieces and a nephew. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Elizabeth F. Mowry officiating. Three sisters, Helen Gibbs, Ruth Bendfelt and Alice Smith, died before her.
Born Feb. 9, 1924, in Cattaraugus, daughter of Ralph and Crystal Studley Dermont, she graduated from Cattaraugus High School in 1941 and from Houghton College in 1946 with a degree in theology.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Curtis Wright Aircraft, Buffalo, and the Wesleyan Publishing House, Syracuse.
She married Arthur F. Waggoner April 4, 1953, in Syracuse. The couple resided in the town of Orwell all their married life.
Mrs. Waggoner retired from Orwell Elementary School as a teacher's aide in June 1986.
She was a member of Vorea Community Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.

Hazel D. Waggoner, 71, of 161 Waggoner Road died Thursday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

Mrs. Waggoner was a native of Cattaraugus and had lived in the Orwell area since 1953. She graduated from Cattaraugus High School in 1941 and received a degree in theology in 1946 from Houghton College. She retired as a teacher's aide from Orwell Elementary School in 1986. She also worked at Curtis-Wright Aircraft, Buffalo, and Wesleyan Publishing House, Syracuse.

Mrs. Waggoner was a member of Vorea Community Church. She taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.

Surviving are her husband, Arthur F.; three daughters, Ruth Ann Waggoner and Deborah Martin, both of Orwell, and Rebecca Raynore of Syracuse; two sisters, Dorothy Ann Harvey of Cattaraugus and Rosemary Steese of Rensselaer; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She worked in beauty shops in Takoma Park and Silver Springs, Md.She married Mr. Bellinger on March 28, 1941, at Laytonsville, Md., with the Rev. Dillon B. Groves officiating.The couple retired in 1970 and moved to Glenfield. In fall 1995, they moved to Sandy Creek. Mr. Bellinger died Nov. 22, 1995.Mrs. Bellinger was a member of the Lowville American Legion Auxiliary and was secretary of the Springbrook Tenants Association.Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ira (Donna) Learned, Lacona; two sons, Donald H. Born on July 9, 1900, in Pulaski, a daughter of Delbert and Clara Myers Babcock, she attended Pulaski schools and married Yates Mahaffy on Nov. 15, 1922. Mr. Mahaffy died on July 11, 1958.
Mrs. Mahaffy was a member of the Alpha Class and an 80-year member of Park United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans and the Pulaski Women's Civic Club.

Stephen J. Foster, 54, Frank Lacy Road, died Friday in Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, of injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident Tuesday afternoon at County Route 28 and Route 11 in the town of Richland.
Mr. Foster was a life resident of Pulaski and previously had been employed by M&K Candle Co. and Firestone Tire Co., both in Syracuse, and Paragon Glass Co., Pulaski.
Born May 1, 1949, in Oswego, son of Dyer F. and Virginia M. Balcom Foster, he attended Pulaski schools and served in the Army.
Surviving besides his mother, of Pulaski, are his companion, Barbara E. Stewart, and a brother, Kenneth C., both of Pulaski; two nieces, a nephew, five great-nieces and a great-nephew.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.

Ralph W. Snow, 87, Vista, Calif., formerly of Pulaski, died Thursday at Faith Gardens Village, Vista, where he had lived since 1982.
Mr. Snow served as principal representative of the John Ben Snow Foundation in Pulaski from 1962 until 1982.
The funeral is scheduled for today in Vista. A memorial service will be held in Pulaski early in the summer. Burial will be in the family plot in Pulaski Cemetery.
Surviving are a daughter, Valerie Battle, Granada Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren; a brother, Norman, LaSalle, Ill., and a sister, Mary Barke, Whittier, Calif.
Born June 16, 1902, in LaSalle, a son of Fred and Anna Snow, he attended public schools in LaSalle and was graduated from Wheaton College, Wheaton, Ill., in 1930, with a bachelor of arts degree. Mr. Snow also studied for an advanced degree at Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill.
He married Marguerite "Mae" Bramer in 1933. The couple lived in Chicago and Wheaton for 30 years before moving East.
Mr. Snow was employed in the Chicago metropolitan area from 1930 to 1947, holding positions in radio, broadcasting, book publishing and advertising. In 1947, he became assistant dean of men at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, where he was responsible for applications and admissions.
In May 1962, at the prompting of his cousin John Ben Snow several years earlier, Ralph Snow took up residence in Pulaski as principal representative of the John Ben Snow Foundation. He also served as vice president of the Snow Foundation and as the family trustee on the Snow Memorial Trust. In these capacities, Mr. Snow initiated several community projects that have served to improve the quality of life in the Pulaski area. These projects have included the Northern Oswego County Ambulance, Snobelt Community Center, Pulaski Library, Pulaski Historical Society, Northern Oswego County Health Building Inc., the Boy Scouts of America and the Cemetery Association. He also introduced an academic incentive award system and the Snow Scholarship program in the Pulaski public schools.
Mr. Snow was very active in the Greater Pulaski Chamber of Commerce from 1962 to 1982. He was honored by the Boy Scouts of America in 1980 for lifelong support of that organization. Mr. Snow was also cited in June 1982 with the observance of Ralph W. Snow Day in the Village of Pulaski.
Mr. and Mrs. Snow had spent the winters in California. Mrs. Snow died in the winter of 1981, in California. Mr. Snow then left Pulaski in 1982 to make his permanent home in California.
An independent Baptist all his life, he attended several local churches of that denomination.

He was born Aug. 31, 1912, in Croghan, a son of Edmund and Rosetti Breeze Wilson.
Mr. Wilson lived at Sandy Creek from 1951 to 1975. He was employed at Krakau Implement Co., and later at the Camden Wire Co., retiring in 1975. Mr. Wilson moved to Oklahoma following his retirement.
He married Ruth Leonard, a native of Harrisville, on Aug. 25, 1933. She died in an automobile accident Nov. 10, 1968, near Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He married Vivian Carmeny in September.
Mr. Wilson was a member of the Valley View Church of God, Depew, Okla.
