He also was the owner and operator of a dairy farm. Mr. Wheeler was a member of Local 545, International Union of Operating Engineers, and the Altmar Defiance Fire Company. He was a charter member of Kasoag Trailblazers Snowmobile Club. Surviving are his wife, Elsie V.; three sons, Thomas W. and Robert L., both of Williamstown, and James H. of Altmar; two daughters, LaDonna Lake of Richland and Linda Tanner of Altmar; a brother, Leon R. of Williamstown; three sisters, Norma Walker, Rosemary Johnson and Gertrude Ford, all of Altmar; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was born October 13, 1890, at Ogdensburg, New York, the son of George and Kathryn Woods Ban. He attended Ogdensburg schools and moved to Pulaski in 1915. He served during World War I in France and was discharged in 1918. He married Dora Colvin in May 1922. He was manager of the Market Basket, Victory American Store and Red & White, from which he retired in 1960. He was a part time meter reader for the Village of Pulaski after his retirement. Mr. Barr was a sexton of the Baptist Church for a number of years, where he was a member and also superintendent of Sunday school for 20 years. He was a member of the church choir. Mr. Barr was also a member of Pulaski Lodge 415 F. & A. M; Robert Edwards Post 358, American Legion. Surviving besides his wife, is a son, William T. Barr Jr. of Liverpool; two grandsons; a brother, George E. Ban of Watertown and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Pulaski Baptist Church. The Rev. He had suffered a serious heart attack in February but had been making a splendid recovery. He had spent Friday afternoon in Pulaski on business, returning home for supper. Finishing his supper, he rose and walked out of the back door, where he suddenly collapsed and death came almost instantly. Mr. Jackson, a life long farmer, had been prominent in Grange and Masonic circles, and had long been an officer of the Patrons of Industry, mutual insurance organization. He was a past master of Pulaski Ledge No. 415, FAA.M., and past high priest of Pulaski Chapter, No. 279, Royal Arch Masons. He was past master of South Richland Grange, past master of Oswego County Pomona Grange and past county deputy master of the grange. He was a member of the Fernwood Baptist church. He was born in Redfield June 12, 1891, but had spent most of his life as a farmer in the vicinity of Fernwood. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. May Reynolds Jackson, four sons, William T. Jackson, Jr., Mexico; George E. Jackson, Gainesville, Florida; Leon Jackson, Fernwood, and Harold A. Jackson, Utica; a sister, Catherine Jackson, Portchester, New York, and four grandchildren. Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, February 6, 1930 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - William V. Beadle - The community of Orwell was deeply shocked when it became known that William V. Beadle, one of the oldest and a highly respected resident of the village had suddenly passed away, at his home, Saturday, February 1. He was born July 23, 1850, at the Beadle homestead where he had lived his entire life. His parents were Orrin and Roxanna Potter Beadle. His father was born in Herkimer, New York, July 14, 1812. He and several brothers and sisters were among the early settlers of the town, upon whose shoulders devolved the herculean task of subduing the forest, and converting the wilderness into a place of habitation. He cleared a large tract of land, a little west of the power house of the Niagara and Lockport Power Company, the farm being owned at present by James Bambury. His mother was born October 31, 1822, on Floyd Hill, Oneida County, a granddaughter of Nathaniel Davies, whose memory is blessed even unto this day. Her father, Ephriam Potter, was a man of great force of character, and possessed all the qualities essential for pioneer life. The departed was never married, and since his mother's death, twenty-one years ago, he had lived a quiet and pleasant life alone. He was a member of Lake Ontario Commandery No. 32, Oswego, Media Temple Mystic Shrine, Watertown; a life member of Pulaski Lodge, No. 415, F. & A.M., and a member of Pulaski Chapter, No. 279, Royal Arch Masons. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Clarence Keys of Pulaski. His obsequies were held at his late home, Tuesday, February 4, Rev. T. T. Davies, an intimate friend of the departed, officiating. Members of Pulaski Lodge attended in a body, and the impressive Masonic burial service, given by Brother Trumbull. The beautiful floral tributes spoke of the love and esteem in which the friend and brother was held. Mr. Sweet was a member of Pulaski Baptist Church, a member and past master of Pulaski Masonic Lodge 415, a member and past high priest of Pulaski Royal Arch Masons 279 and a member and past president of the Oswego County Scottish Rite. He was also a member of Pulaski Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 259, Fulton Royal and Select Masons 50 and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Syracuse. Mr. Martin was about as usual Wednesday and was preparing to go on a berry picking trip when he suffered a shock from which he failed to rally. A native of New Haven, he had been a farmer in the Pulaski area about 26 years, moving into the village about five years ago. He was born June 19, 1859, son of the late Austin and Sophia Fulney Martin. He attended the Methodist Episcopal church and was united in marriage, May 12, 1889 with Nettie Tilkins, who survives him. Besides his wife he leaves one son, Clarence Martin, Centerville; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Redding, Red Mills; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Gore, Parish, Mrs. Rose Veader, Syracuse, and Mrs. Cora Miller, Detroit; two brothers, James of Tully and Steven of Fulton, and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the home Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. H. H. Barnard of Richland Methodist church officiating and burial in Daysville cemetery. Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, October 11, 1950 Oswego Palladium Times - Oswego, New York - Pulaski - William M. Morton, 82, well known guide and commercial fisherman in the Port Ontario-Selkirk basin area, died Tuesday at the Austin nursing home, Lacona, after a short illness. He suffered a stroke last Friday night and failed to rally. Except for service with the old Life Saving Service at Charlotte, he had always made his home in the vicinity of Port Ontario. He was born May 23, 1868, at Port Ontario near the intersection of the Scenic Highway and the Lake street road. He was the son of William and Elvira Morton, members of pioneer families in the area. The family had always lived near Lake Ontario and had done much commercial fishing in days when fish were really numerous in Mexico Bay. It was a family tradition to serve as a life saver and then turn to fishing. Mr. Morton and his brother, "Lonny" were experts in sturgeon fishing and had their set lines in Mexico Bay from Stony Point to Nine Mile Point, catching and shipping many of these huge fish to the New York market. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Allen and Mrs. Ernest Stafford, Pulaski; his brother, Alonzo Morton, Port Ontario, and several grandchildren. He joined the Lions Club in 1967 and was a Life Member of the Mason Neck Lions Club in Mason Neck, VA and an Associate Member of the North Port Lions Club. William worked in a machine shop in the early 1950’s, making transmissions and differentials for auto and trucks, went to college and taught Architectural and engineering drafting for 24 years at Mount Vernon High School, having retired from Mount Vernon in 1983. He built many custom homes before moving to Florida. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandy Nurse; brother, Vernon Nurse and sister, Eileen Ackers. Survivors include his son, Adrian (wife, Cheryle) Nurse and brother, Jerome Nurse of Mexico, NY. William served his country faithfully in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and received the purple heart. As a young adult Bill started working for Fanta Sea Pools, later partnering with Don Wehrung to own several branch stores. He moved on to owning and racing the monster truck Rambo with Willie jr and Iron Mike Nitzke. Also owned and operated construction businesses with in the local community for 22 years. BUT… we all knew his passion was wheelin and dealin. Bill was a very family oriented person that loved his motorcycle and antique cars. He is predeceased by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 44 years Dolly, his parents Henry and Shirley, 2 sister Jean Beverly and Georgia, and brother Hanky. Bill is survived by his sons Willie, Jason (Danielle Buda), and Michael (Heather) Weaver. His 6 grandchildren, Kayla (Jake) Gabe Speers, Alicia pumpkin (Jory) Fowler, Emily (Bunny) Weaver, Kyle and Luke Weaver, And Michael Weaver. Billy was employed by Trane in Syracuse for the past five years and had previously been employed by various HVAC companies in the Syracuse area. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Bill was a US Navy aircraft mechanic during WWII and retired from Douglas Aircraft. He worked as a real estate broker, as well as a builder in both California and Missouri. He was an active member of the Ozark 1st Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Phyllis Hogan; his second wife, Sylvia Hogan; a grandson, Gregory Gabel; and his sisters, Betty Emerson and Ina Glee Campbell. William was born November 8, 1925, in New Centerville, NY to William and Annabelle Reid Pearson. He joined the Navy in 1943 and was active service until 1945. He was a ships cook third class on the LSM-483 in the Pacific Theater where he took part in assaults and occupations in Okinawa and Hiroshima. He also served in the FAW-16, a patrol wing unit stationed in Brazil. After serving, he worked jobs as a custodian at schools in Williamstown, Pulaski, and Phoenix, Arizona where he retired. William was married to Hazel Huntly in 1946 and she passed away December 6, 1990. William was a member of the Robert Edwards American Legion Post #358 for 76 years. He enjoyed gardening and playing Bingo, and hunting and fishing. Surviving, are three daughters, Sandra (James) Fitzgerald of Pulaski, Bonnie Smith of Lee Center, Melanie Britton of Pulaski, stepdaughter, Pauline (Leonard) Webb of Williamstown, nine grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. | 21687 | Williamstown, Feb 2 - Mrs. Venila Nicholls, widow of the late John Nicholls, passed away very suddenly on Wednesday afternoon, January 26th, at five o'clock, at the home of her daughter Mrs. Albert Harris aged seventy-four years and two months. Mrs. Nicholls for several years had suffered from heart trouble and this winter had the grippe which had weakened her greatly. But for two weeks prior to her death she had felt better than usual. During the day she had assisted her daughter about the housework and did some mending. In the afternoon she laid down to rest was was her custom and fell asleep. Later the daughter hearing her as if trying to cough, went to her side and asked if there was anything she wanted. She gave one gasp and without any emotion fell asleep, never to wake again. Mrs. Nichols was born in this town Her maiden name was Venila Stewart. She had lived in York Mills and Amboy, and came back to Williamstown to reside about eighteen years ago. Her only child, Miss Jennie Nicholls, was married to Albert Harris about ten years ago, and with them she has made her home for some time. She was a faithful member of the Methodist church , always in her place when her health would permit. She united with the church some fifty years ago, and her life has reflected her Christian character. She is survived by the daughter named and two grandchildren, Venila and John Nicholls Harris; also two sisters, the Misses Mary and Elnora Stewart. The funeral was very largely attended from the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Sunday. Her pastor, Rev. A. A. Lawrence, had charge of the service and delivered a very impressive sermon. The choir rendered three beautiful pieces ""My Savior First of All, " "My Jesus as Thou Wilt" and "Asleep in Jesus." The floral pieces were beautiful. | 21690 | Williamstown, May 18 - David W. Bartlett died at his home a mile and a half south of this village in the town of Amboy, Saturday morning aged 78 years and 7 months. Deceased had been in poor health all winter and during the spring had been confined to his bed, his ailment being kidney trouble and a general breaking down of the system. He is survived by four sons and three daughters; Mrs. Jenkins of Pulaski, William of Ogdensburg, George of California, Walter of Connecticut and Miss Jean and James Bartlett at home. The community sympathize with them in the loss of their father. Mr. Bartlett was a pleasant agreeable man, who had many friends. He was a veteran of the Civil War and a member of the Grand Army Post. His comrades bore him to his last resting place in Fair View cemetery. He was also a member of Amboy Lodge, F & A. M ., who had their burial service at the grave. The flowers on the casket were most beautiful, a floral emblem from the Masonic order and others being conspicuous. Miss Stewart was born in Amboy, May 10, 1854, daughter of the late Clark and Eliza Comstock Stewart. She had spent her entire life in this immediate locality. She is survived by her sister, Miss Mary Stewart, with whom she resided, and who is now the last survivor of a family of ten children. She also leaves several nieces and nephews to mourn her passing. The funeral was held Monday, October 26, 1:30 p.m. from her late home, the Rev. B. A. Belbin of the Methodist church officiating. A grand niece of the deceased, Mrs. Mildred Wagner, and Mrs. Pulver sang a beautiful selection. The bearers were A. D. Harris, Dr. E. L. She was the last of nine children of the late Clark and Louisa Comstock Stewart, and was born February 20, 1852. Miss Stewart was on of the most highly respected women of the town and will be greatly missed by everyone. She trained for teaching at the Sandy Creek training school and taught for many years. She was a member of the Methodist church, had been active and devoted in its work and had served the Sunday School as superintendent. She was an honorary member of the Board of Trustees. Her sister Elnora died in 1931, leaving her the lone survivor of the once large family. She leaves a number of nephews and nieces, among whom are Mrs. Dr. Simpson, Mrs. Albert Harris, Mrs. Ed Jenkins of Williamstown and James Bartlett of Amboy. Surviving are a son, James of Fulton; nine daughters, Betty Weaver of Central Square, Norma Ackerman and Helen "Sue" Britton, both of Hastings, Shirley Burghart and Dawn La Lone, both of Mallory, Florence Bulson of West Amboy, Hazel Lavoie of North Syracuse, Grace Potter of West Monroe and Fern Fidler of Parish; a sister Marjorie Mangus of Hastings; 53 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home, Central Square. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mallory. A daughter, Martha, died in 1936 at 3. Mr. Sampson was born Aug. 5, 1896, near Orwell, a son of Andrew and Jennie Sampson. He married Miss Doris Steele of Pierrepont Manor, Nov. 26, 1918.
