Newspaper Obituary - July 4, 1963 Mexico Independent - Mexico, New York - Pulaski - Willis Manwarren, 83, former resident of Daysville, died Thursday evening, June 27, in the VanDuyn Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a patient for the past five years. He was born in the town of Mexico, October 7, 1879, son of the late Ira and Estella Chapman Manwarren. He spent most of his life in the Daysville area and was also a resident of Syracuse. Mr. Manwarren was employed for 30 years as a baggage master for the New York Central Railroad in Syracuse, retiring eight years ago. He was a member of the NYC Brotherhood. He is survived by two brothers, Quentin and Leon Manwarren, Fernwood and one sister, Mrs. Germer (Bertha) Halsey, Fernwood, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Taylor Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Robert North, pastor of the Fernwood Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Daysville Cemetery.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 3, 1969 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Willis Higby Rites Thursday - Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3 for Willis O. Higby, 64, who died Monday, June 30 at Good Samaritan Hospital where he had been a patient for three days. The Rev. Wallace Taylor will officiate at the service to be held in the Pulaski Wesleyan Church. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery. Willis Higby was born May 13, 1905 at Turin, the son of E. Frank and Frances Hill Higby. He graduated from Turin Union High School and the old Oswego Normal. He then taught school at West Leyden, Kingston and Lyons Falls. He was married July 23, 1938 to the former Dorothy E. Hill. They moved to Pulaski in 1947 where he was employed by the New York Central Railroad He became associated with General Electric at Syracuse in 1951 until his retirement in 1967. He attended the Wesleyan Church, and was a member of Turin Lodge No. 184 F. & A.M. and the Pulaski Grange. He is survived by his wife; six sons, Willard E., Gerald F., John W., A-1 Adelbert E. (stationed on the Air Force Island of Crete), James J. and Douglas D.; three daughters, Mrs. Myles (Sandra) Meers of Orange, California, Mrs. Steven (Janet) Banks of Sparrow Bush, and Mary Ellen; a sister, Miss Elizabeth Higby of Turin; two brothers, Dr. Willard Higby of Lowville (his twin), and George Higby Constableville; a step mother, Mrs. E. Frank Higby, Lowville. Friends may call at the Foster Funeral Home Wednesday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 8 p.m.

Born March 22, 1946, in Rochester, daughter of Fred and Carol Samson Martin, she attended Pulaski schools. She married David R. Lass on January 11, 1968. He died November 17, 1981. 21708 Wilma Young Rybarczyk Lane, 96, formerly of MacDougall Street, Auburn, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Finger Lakes Center for the Living. Born in Baldwinsville on August 20, 1922, Wilma was the daughter of the late Milton and Ruth King Young. She worked for many years at General Electric of Auburn. She loved to travel as often as she could; she spent her 90th birthday traveling throughout England and took her last cross country road trip with her family at the age of 95. She was of the "Greatest Generation" and was widowed early in her life. She was brave in the face of adversity and always loved a good laugh. She will be missed and always loved. Mrs. Lane is survived by five generations of family: her brother, Raymond A. Young (Nancy) of Lafayette; daughter, Barbara Lane (Lori Saile) of Syracuse; her sons, Luke Rybarczyk (Kathleen) of Florida and William Lane (Ann Marie Poole-Yannotti) of Auburn. Many Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Sunday Evening at 5 p.m. in White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South Street, Auburn. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville. Friends are invited to call on the family Sunday from 3-5 p.m. prior to services.

A native of Hamilton, NY, Wilma was a daughter of the late Darwin and Marian Sykes Lamb. She was an LPN in Oswego, NY prior to moving to Coudersport, PA where she worked as office manager for Adelphia Communication Corporation. Wilma lived in Aiken since 2008 and was an avid quilter. She retired from AllStar Tents and Rentals. She was member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Surviving in addition to her husband Donald are four children, Robin Steel (Brad), Spring, TX, Randy R. Charles (Robin), Kernersville, NC, Susan Gerstenberger (Paul), Aiken, George Stewart (Suzette), Glenville, NY; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private funeral service will be held in the chapel of Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Erbskorn officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. 21710 WILMINGTON - Lawrence J. Galbraith, 70, of the Haselton Road, died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at his home.

He was born in Pulaski on Jan. 27, 1931, the son of Ralph and Olive (Galer) Galbraith.

He was a Veteran with the U.S. Army serving from 1954 to 1962. He was a Maintenance Welder for the Nestle's Candy Company in Fulton and retired from there.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Pelkey Galbraith of Wilmington, who he married May 5,1984 in Baldwinsville; three sons, Bruce Galbraith, Brian Galbraith and Jamie Galbraith all of Florida; a daughter, Cassandra Quinn of Alabama; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Joan Galbraith of Plattsburgh; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Erma & Victor Koenig of Mexico, N.Y. and Barbara McCullogh of Sandy Creek; and six grandchildren.

His parents predeceased him.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at a later date to be announced at the Haselton Cemetery in Wilmington.

Eunice I. Wilson, 87, died Tuesday July 8, 2003 at St. Luke's Health Services, Oswego, NY where she had been a resident since 1999. She was born April 4, 1916 in Sodus, NY a daughter of Lyman and Mae Cummins Correll and was a graduate of Hannibal High School. On June 25, 1938 she married Raymond Wilson in Hannibal. She had lived in the Hannibal, Oswego and Baldwinsville areas for many years befor moving to Camden in 1979. Mr. Wilson died July 10, 1983.

Eunice had attended the Hillsboro Baptist Church, was a member of the Camden Grange #354, Oneida Co., Pomona Grange, and the Baldwinsville Rebekah Lodge as Past Noble Grand. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Burmingham, Redfield, a son, Paul Wilson, Camden, 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a sister, Inez Porter, Oswego, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons; Duane and Charles Wilson.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday from the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc. Camden, NY. Graveside services 1 p.m. at Hannibal Village Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 109 Main Street. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, November 20, 1919 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Wilson Cummings, 52, who resided in Court street, Watertown, died at 11:30 o'clock Sunday at St. Joachim's Hospital. Death followed an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Cummings was a native of Lowville the son of Foster and Julia Cummings. He passed nearly all his life in Richland and Pulaski, coming to Watertown two years ago. He had been employed at the New York Air Brake Company's plant. There survives one daughter, Beatrice Cummings of Watertown and four brothers and one sister in Lowville. Funeral services were held at Watertown and interment in Riverside cemetery, Pulaski, Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Cummings wife, who was Katie Ingersoll Cummings, sister of Mrs. Charles Woodard and E. Pond, 83, of Adams Center, a former resident, of Pulaski, were held Wednesday at. 1:30 p.m. at the Reed and Benoit Funeral Home in Watertown. The Rev. Ivan M. Cash of Syracuse, a former pastor of the First Baptist Church in Adams Center, officiated with, burial in Willis Cemetery at Fernwood. Mr. Pond died Saturday evening at the Madonna Home in Watertown where he had been a patient since December 26, 1963. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Doris P.) Benoit, Phoenix; four grandchildren; .a niece, Mrs. Robert E. (Eleanor A.) Walklett of Pulaski who had made her home with Mr. Pond before her marriage. The son of Adelbert and Josephine Manwarren Pond, he was born November 12, 1880, in South Richland. He attended Mexico High School. In August, 1903, Mr. Pond began his career as a telegrapher for the Ontario division of the New York Central Railroad. In 1923 he was transferred to Pulaski, and from 1925 until his retirement in 1945 he was a telegrapher at Adams Center. Mr. Pond married Delia Cross of Pulaski on October 25, 1905. She died at Adams Center in 1943. For seven years after his retirement Mr. Pond was tax collector for the Town of Adams. He was a member of the Adams Center First Day Church, a member and past master of Pulaski Lodge, 415, F. & A. M.; and of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers.

Winfield "Bud" Scott Jones, age 86, resident of Pulaski passed away peacefully, Saturday, November 4th, at Loretto Health & Rehab in Syracuse. Bud was born July 24, 1931 the son of Rae Rogers Thornton Jones and Margaret Knox Jones. He lived in New Jersey in his early years and Central New York for most of his adult life. Bud graduated from Syracuse University in 1963. He taught Physical Education and coached Varsity Basketball and Track and Field at Pulaski Academy for 33 years. In 1999, Coach Jones was elected to the Central New York High School Basketball Hall of Fame. He was also elected Coach of the Year in New York State for Track and Field.
Surviving are four children Susan (Bob) Deegan, Karen (Pete) Backus, Beth (Tim Bak) Lafave and Scott (Libby) Jones, 10 grandchildren, Bryan, David, Maggie, Scott, Andrew, Emily, Evan, Landon, James and Joseph, and seven great-grandchildren. Bud was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Donnanell Jones, on October 25, 2017.
A private memorial service will be held. Calling hours will be held Saturday, November 11th, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, NY.

Mr. Bentley died December 5, 1956. She had lived all her married life on Lincoln Avenue. She was a member of St. James Church, the Guild and Auxiliary of the church, the Women's Civic Club and a former member of the Girl Scout Council of Oswego County.

Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, May 18, 1921 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Winslow N. Pierce Dies Suddenly - Last Friday, just after noon, Winslow N. Pierce, of Fernwood, died while sitting in his chair. He had finished his dinner and had taken a book to read. When he had been thus engaged a few minutes, the family noticed the book fall from his hand and when they went to him he was dead. Mr. Pierce was the son of the late Benjamin Pierce and was born in the South part of the town of Richland seventy nine years ago. He had spent most of his life in the vicinity of his birthplace. He is survived by the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Theodore W. Shaul, of Syracuse, Mrs. Walter Nickelson, of Fernwood, and one son, Benjamin F. who lived at the Pierce farm. He also had one brother, Ward E. Pierce, and a sister, Miss Eva Pierce, of Pulaski. Funeral services were held at the home, Sunday afternoon, Rev. Barrette, of Fernwood M. E. Church, officiating. Death of John H. Moore

John H. Moore, one of the oldest residents of Winterset, died Friday, April 4th, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Martha Whitt. He was 93 years of age, and had been in poor health for some time.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Moore, and was born in Indiana, February 20, 1837. He came to this county with his mother, when he was fifteen years old. He went to Joplin, Missouri, to work in the lead mines, and there he was married to Martha Ann Crow. They were the parents of ten children. The Moores came back to Iowa and Mr. Moore enlisted in the 39th Iowa infantry, in the Civil war. Following the war, they moved to a farm nine miles southwest of Winterset, and it was here that Mrs. Moore died in 1873. He was married the following year to Melissa White, and three years later the family moved to Winterset, where he had since resided. Since Mrs. Moore's death, five years ago, he had made his home with his children.

He is survived by five children; Mrs. Tracy Heathcote and Mrs. Jane Matheny, of Des Moines; Mrs. Martha Whitt and John Moore, of Winterset, and David Moore, of Council Bluffs. He also leaves a step-daughter, Mrs. Emma Cooper, of Winterset. The Rev. John T. Hall, pastor of the local Baptist church, conducted the funeral services at Tidrick's funeral home, Sunday, April 6th, and burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery.

John H. Moore

John, son of Henry and Tracy Moore, was born in Indiana, February 20, 1837. His early years were spent in that state, but when only fifteen he came with his mother to Madison county, Iowa, in 1852. Later he worked in the lead mines of Joplin, Missouri, where he had the misfortune to lose one eye. While there he was married to Martha Anne Crow, to which union were born ten children.

They moved to Iowa, but during the Civil war Mr. Moore enlisted with the 39th Iowa infantry, serving faithfully until the end of the war. He was with Sherman on his memorable march to the sea.

After his discharge from the army the family moved to a farm nine miles southwest of Winterset, where they lived in a small log cabin. It was here in 1873, that Mrs. Moore passed away. The following year he was married to Melissa White. Three years later the family moved to Winterset, where he had since resided.

Mr. Moore united with the Winterset Methodist church when a young man. He was also a member of Pitzer Post, G. A. R. He was a man who was well known and trusted in the community.

His second wife passed away five and one-half years ago, and Mr. Moore had since then made his home with his children. During the past two years he had been almost helpless, and he passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Martha Whitt, April 5, 1930, at the age of ninety-three years, one month and sixteen days. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, five children, Mrs. Tracy Heathcote and Mrs. Jane Matheny, of Des Moines; Mrs. Martha Whitt and John Moore of Winterset, and David Moore, of Council Bluffs; also one step-daughter, Mrs. Emma Cooper, of Winterset; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren and a number of great great grandchildren, as well as a large number of other relatives and friends.

Services were held for Mr. Moore at the Tidrick funeral home, Sunday afternoon, April 6th. They were in charge of Rev. John T. Hall, pastor of the local Baptist church. Burial was in the Primitive Baptist cemetery, northeast of Winterset.

21720 Winthrop: Joseph Mere, 73, died on Saturday (3/23/194) in Winthrop. He was an expert mechanic.

He was born on June 12, 1866 at Huntingdon, Quebec, a son of Michael and Margaret Dulare Mere, both of Canada. He was twice married. His first wife, Miss Justine Bowen was killed several, many years ago by a car, when crossing the road in Massena on her way home from church.

Eleven children were born to them, three of whom died in infancy. After her death he married Mrs. Eunice Hosme Davis. The couple moved from Massena 12 years ago to the Artemus Steenberg farm, which they purchased. Mrs. Mere passed away Nov. 4, 1934

He was an employee of the Massena Aluminum Plant, having nearly completed 25 years there.

He is survived by three daughters and five sons, Mrs. Claude (Lixina) Gary, Winthrop; Mrs. Clifford (Josephine) LeBean, Dexter; Mrs. Maurice (Rose) LaBrosse, Massena; Amie and Oscar Mere, Winthrop; Emery, Alec and Wilfred Mere, Massena. He also leaves several grandchildren.

21723 With great sadness, family and friends share the passing of Joseph M. Valley, age 50, of Syracuse, formerly of Pulaski and Constantia on September 29, 2007. He left us to contemplate, mourn, and celebrate the impact he had on our lives. He was born January 20, 1957 in Oswego, the son of Norm and Kay Stoffle Valley. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1975. He was employed by Bristol Meyers Squibb as a Stationary Engineer for the past 10 years. He was formerly a Union Iron Worker and was also an Energy Auditor for Johnson Controls, Inc. and D.M.C. Joe was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church of Pulaski, Oswego County Comets Motorcycle Club and Friend of Vicious Circle Motorcycle Club. Joe's mission on earth was to brighten the day by sharing his love of motorcycles, music, storytelling, traveling and antique collecting. Surviving: a daughter Cassidy Valley, of Syracuse; his father Norm Valley, of Pulaski; one brother Paul (Carla) Valley, of Aurora, OH; two grandchildren, Robyn Valley and Damean Deats, of Syracuse; one niece, Ava Julia Valley, of Aurora, OH. He was predeceased by his mother Kay Valley on November 13, 1991. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Our Light Parish, Pulaski with burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park St., Pulaski. Donation can be made to Paul Valley in c/o Norm Valley, 87 Lewis Street, Apt. A, Pulaski, NY 13142 for the grandchildren, Damean and Robyn Valley.

The funeral for Joseph M. Valley, 50, Syracuse, formerly of Pulaski, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Our Light parish. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery.

Mr. Valley died Saturday night when the motorcycle he was driving on Route 49 in Constantia was struck by a car driven by an alleged drunken driver.

Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park St.

He had been employed as a stationary engineer by Bristol-Myers Squibb, Syracuse, for the past 10 years. He was formerly a union ironworker and was an energy auditor for Johnson Controls Inc. and Honeywell DMC.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church of Pulaski, Oswego County Comets Motorcycle Club and Friend of Vicious Circle Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed motorcycles, music, storytelling, traveling and antiques collecting.

Born Jan. 20, 1957, in Oswego, son of Norman W. and Kathryn Stoffle Valley, he graduated from Pulaski Academy and Central School in 1975.

Surviving are a daughter, Cassidy Valley, Syracuse; his father, of Pulaski; a brother and his wife, Paul and Carla, Aurora, Ohio, two grandchildren and a niece.

His mother died Nov. 13, 1991.

21726 Wolcott: Passed away on Tuesday evening, at age 80. Born in Germany, she immigrated to the United States in 1948. Margarete is survived by her daughters, Ruth (Richard) LaBarr of Pultneyville and Karen (John) Monson of Wolcott; grandchildren, Tracy (Patrick) Bliek, Todd (Tammy) LaBarr, John (Amy) Monson, Eric (Angela) Monson and David (Katie) Monson; 11 great-grandchildren with another expected in November; sister-in-law, Faith (Chuck) Knope; and several nieces and nephews.
Margarete was predeceased by her husband, Anthony R. LeVecchi in 1988 and son, Donald R. LeVecchi in 1995.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 25th, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Wolcott. Interment will follow at Glenside Cemetery in Wolcott. Donations in Margarete's memory may be directed to

21742 Word has been received in this city from Amsterdam of the death at the home of his son, W. H. Tanner, Jr., in that city, at 11 o'clock Thursday morning of W. H. Tanner, aged 84 years. Mr. Tanner, a son of William and Annis Richardson Tanner, was a lifelong resident of Rome, and went to Amsterdam only last spring after the death of his wife, which occurred here March 24, 1912. Mr. Tanner was born in Rome, and practicaly all his life was spent as a boatman on the Erie Canal. He retired from active work on the canal about ten years ago and purchased a small farm at Stanwix, where he resided until about four years ago when he moved to Rome. He leaves one daughter and seven sons, Mrs. Alice R. Gorham of Tonawanda, William of Amsterdam, Eugene of Martinsville, NY, Bert and Charles of New York City, Frank, Fred and Aden of Rome, also two sisters, Mrs. Dewitt Henderson of Oakland, Cal., Mrs Sarah Smith of Demster, NY, two brothers, George of Altmar and Timothy Tanner of Demster. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church of this city. Newspaper Obituary - October 31, 1957 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Raymond Dyer, 30, Dies of Burns Suffered in Fire - Raymond Dyer, 30, died Saturday afternoon, October 26, 1957 in the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown. He was burned in a fire which destroyed his home in Richland October 13, resulting in the death of his five-year-old son, Paul Douglas Dyer, and his uncle, Charles F. Lowrey, 60. The latter for out of the house but went back in to find the little boy. Beverly Dyer, 8, whom her father rescued from the fire is in the same hospital recovering from second and third degree burns of the arms, face, hands and neck. Four other people escaped from the burning building: Mrs. Irene Tilkins Dyer, wife of Raymond Dyer, two other sons of Mr. and Mrs. Dyer, Bruce Dyer, 7 and Daryl Eugene Dyer, who was born last March 17; and a neighbor, Allan Wart, 10. The latter was spending the night in the Dyer home when fire evidently caused by a defective space burner, destroyed the home. Mr. Dyer was born September 26, 1927 at Rodman, the son of Floyd and Aurelia Lowrey Dyer. At the time of his death he was employed by the Winkelman Construction Company of Syracuse. Surviving are his wife and three children; his mother, Mrs. Aurelia Schmitz, and a brother, Stanley Dyer, both of Syracuse. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home in Pulaski. The Rev. Jay Wilcox, pastor of the Richland Methodist church, officiated. Burial was in Richland cemetery.
