| 2479 | Cheney Fleming - November 8, 1865 - October 11, 1912. Son of William Fleming and Electa L. Pitcher. Husband of LeElla C. "Nellie" Williamson Fleming. Married March 22, 1888. Section 5, Row 9. Newspaper Obituary - October 16, 1912 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - It is with heartfelt sorrow and deep regret that we take up our pen to record the death of a former schoolmate and lifelong friend. Cheney Fleming, the subject of this sketch was born in the Manwarren district near Daysville, November 8, 1865. He was the younger son of William and Electa Fleming, and came of good old sturdy stock, his grandparents being among the pioneers of the district. He obtained his education at the district school, and at Mexico Academy, and taught school for many terms both before and after his marriage, with great success, as he possessed in a marked degree all the natural ability of a teacher. March 22, 1888, he was united in marriage to Nellie C. Williamson, of Pulaski, whose acquaintance he made by her coming to the Manwarren district to teach. These young teachers then began farming on one of the Fleming farms, in the same district, which later became theirs by inheritance. Three sons were here born to them, Ray, Bryan and Fordyce Fleming. In 1907 Mr. Fleming bought the Hartwell Douglas farm of Mr. T. Richardson, who then owned it, and removed there at once with his family where they have since resided. A short time after this it became evident that his health was failing, and his physician warned him that he had diabetes and would have but a short time to live. He then consulted a Syracuse specialist and has since made a brave fight for his life, but the disease finally conquered and on October 11, 1912 he sank to rest, having been confined to his bed but a week. Mr. Fleming was a man that was loved and esteemed by all. Cordial and kindly in his greetings to his associates, strictly honest in his business dealings, true to his friends, a kind and helpful neighbor, a man whom the community will miss. In politics he was an ardent Democrat, but always respected the political opinion of others. He was a member of Daysville Grange, also of the local association of the Patrons of Industry and had been a member of the board of registration for a number of years. But it is in the home where the loss falls heaviest, and the sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved wife and sons. The funeral was held from the home on October 14, and the interment was made in the Daysville cemetery, where so many of his kindred are sleeping. | Fleming, Cheney (I31933)
