| 3155 | Class of 1926 PACS Watertown Daily Times (NY) - Friday, November 16, 2001 Otto R. Lilley, 93, of 608 Lake Road, died Wednesday at the home of his son, William D. Lilley, Manlius. Mr. Lilley worked for 37 years for the former GLF Co. and Agway Petroleum Co. as a supervisor in Trumansburg, Canton and Paterson, N.J., retiring in 1969. Born May 17, 1908, in Pulaski, son of Dexter and Elizabeth Lane Lilley, he graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1926. He married Grace S. Merriam on April 6, 1935, at the home of her parents in Pulaski with the Rev. Robert C. Dunn, then pastor of St. James Church, officiating. She died Jan. 12, 1997. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, a 60-year member of Pulaski Grange 730 and a member of the Pulaski Service Club. Surviving besides his son are a daughter, Elizabeth L. Mitchell, Payette, Idaho; a sister, Dorothy Hastings, Pulaski, and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 6 at St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. Mrs. Drake died on March 5 of this year. Published in Syracuse Post Standard on May 23, 2010 __________________________________________ Mildred Olmstead Drake, 101, of 19717 Loveland Road, died on Friday evening, March 5, 2010 at The Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Carthage. Mrs. Drake was born in Orwell, NY on January 3, 1909 the only daughter of the late Fred L. and Lela Bambury Olmstead, she graduated from Pulaski High Academy in 1927, and from Syracuse University in 1931. On August 15, 1931, in Orwell, she married Francis Wilson Drake at her parent's home, the late Frederick & Ruby Lyons (her step-mother) Olmstead, where they celebrated an outdoor wedding. Mr. Drake died October 16, 1967. When they were younger Mildred and Francis operated a dairy farm in Chaffee, NY from 1931 to 1943 when they moved to Orwell. Mr. Drake owned and operated a dairy farm in Richland, and she became part of the daily operation of the Olmstead IGA General Store in Orwell, which was in operation since 1846. Mildred continued to run the family store until she retired in 1981. Mrs. Drake moved to Loveland Road in 1993. She is survived by her two children, a son, Phillip F. Drake of Pulaski, a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and David Porter of Adams Center; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Janet Durant Drake. Mildred was a member of Orwell Union Church, and the Dalked Class. She was a member of Sigma Nu of Kappa Delta, Syracuse Chapter. Mildred also was a senior volunteer in Oswego County for R.S.V.P. for 20 years, and United Way volunteer in Venice, FL., from 1981 to 1997. There will be a Celebration of Mildred's life with the family in May at the Orwell Union Church with burial in the Orwell Evergreen Cemetery. Babcock, 67, of 7666 North Street, Pulaski passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 19 at the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown. He had been taken to the hospital after work on Saturday. Born on February 23, 1907, Mr. Babcock was the son of Robert and Laura Wilson Babcock. He graduated from the Pulaski Academy in 1927 and took floral training in New York City. He was married on December 8, 1946 to Florence Sheldon at Camden, New York he had owned and operated Babcock's Florists ever since 1938. Mr. Babcock was a member of the Pulaski Baptist Church; Pulaski Lodge 415 F. & A.M. and the Media Temple at Watertown. He was a past commander of the Lake Ontario Commandery; past high priest of the Pulaski Lodge 279, Royal Arch Masons; and a member of the local Chamber of Commerce. He was passed noble grand of the I.O.O.F., No. 648; Salmon River Encampment 31 and the Rising Sun Rebekah Lodge No. 49 I.O.O.F. He is survived by his wife, Florence Babcock who is employed by the Oswego County Office of Civil Defense. He is also survived by several cousins. Services will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 1 p.m. at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Jerry Miller, of the Pulaski Baptist Church officiating. Burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Miss Nichols was a teacher in rural schools in the Pulaski School District and at Pulaski Elementary School, retiring in June 1971 after 43 years of service. Born July 20, 1906, in Pulaski, daughter of Lewis and Gertrude Reese Nichols, she had resided in the same home her whole life. She graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1927, Pulaski Teachers Training Class in 1928 and Oswego State Teachers College in 1932. She was a member of Fernwood United Methodist Church, New York State Retired Teachers Association and Oswego County Retired Teachers Association. A sister, Alice Nichols, died Nov. 15, 1996. Miss McKinley taught remedial reading in Central Square Schools for 40 years, retiring in 1970. She also taught in New Haven and Orwell country schools for many years. Schneider, 81, of 7510 Delano St., former Town of Richland supervisor and legislator, died at 1 a.m. Sunday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s the Evangelist Church with the Rev. Anthony Keeffe, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 this afternoon and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 7385 Park St. Contributions may be made to the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department building fund, St. John’s the Evangelist Church or Northern Oswego County Ambulance. Surviving are his wife, Doris; three brothers, Ferdinand J., Syracuse, Rudolph R., Baldwinsville, and Edwin R., Oneida; four sisters, Elsie Schneider, Kathryn Schneider and Helen VonHoltz, all of Oswego, and Margaret Eron, Camillus, and several nieces and nephews. He was born Aug. 21, 1909, in Chicago, Ill., a son of Rudolph and Caroline Fischer Schneider. He moved to Pulaski in 1928, the same year he graduated from Pulaski Academy High School. He married Doris Clark of Mexico May 7, 1965, at Park Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank A. Halse Jr. officiating. Mr. Schneider was a former supervisor and legislator for the Town of Richland, having served several terms in those capacities. He was also employed as Oswego County highway superintendent for many years, retiring in 1977. Mr. Schneider operated Schneider Sales and Service in Pulaski, selling Chrysler products, from 1928 to 1956. He drove school bus for Pulaski Central School for 19 years, and until recently was an Oswego County court assistant at the Pulaski courthouse. Mr. Schneider was very active in his community. He was a charter member of both the Pulaski Service Club and the Pulaski Lions Club, and a 50-year member of Pulaski Grange 730. A 59-year member and former chief of the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department, Mr. Schneider marched with the fire department for the 59th consecutive time in Pulaski’s 1990 Memorial Day parade. He was a former 11-year member of Northern Oswego County Ambulance. Mr. Schneider was a life member and past president of the Mad River Hunting Club, and was one of the founding members of an airplane flying club which gave flying lessons on Rome Road.
