LAKELAND, Fl. - Betty Arline Kling Allport Whittaker, 89, passed away on July 10th 2016, and was received in heaven by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Betty was born on November 8th, 1926, to Carl & Evelyn Kling in Pulaski. New York, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Pulaski Academy/Central School in 1944, State University of NY at Oswego, where she earned BS/MS degrees in Education and IIT in Chicago, Ill. for MS in Sociology.

She won a government grant to travel to India in 1968 and an NSF grant in 1971/72 and a sabbatical leave to pursue her trip. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an Education Honor Society and Pi Gamma Mu, a Social Sciences Honor Society. She was a much loved and respected high school teacher at Sandy Creek, NY Schools for 20 Years.

She was a long time member of Victory Assembly of God Church, in Lakeland.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and a much loved younger brother, (Walter). She is survived by her loving husband Robert (Bob) and daughter Victoria (Vicki), & husband Rikard (Rik) Lykling, a son Michael (Joanne) Allport and son, David (Diana) Allport. She had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Betty was also a wonderful stepmother to five in Upstate New York. Bob’s daughter Cindy (James) Cough, and sons, Paul (Yolanda (Loni), William (Daun) and Michael Whittaker and Timothy (Suzanne) Powers. Also 9 more grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at The Estates at Carpenters, Lakeland, on Aug. 6, at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Estates at Carpenters, Good Samaritan Fund, or to Victory Church Care Team.

Geraldine R. Clark, age 86, life resident of Pulaski and Richland passed away Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. Geraldine was born February 4, 1926 in Sandy Creek, the daughter of Earl and Olive Campbell Wilder. She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1944. She also graduated from Syracuse Beauty and Barber School. Geraldine was married to Peter Clark, he passed away December 27, 1990. She was employed by the United States Postal Service for 33 years as Postmaster in Richland and she also worked at the Taft Road office in North Syracuse. Geraldine also owned a beauty and barber shop in Richland for 40 years. She was a member of the National Postmaster Association, Christ Our Light Parish in Pulaski and the Elks Club of Zephyrhills, FL, where she spent her winters.

Surviving, one son, Duane and his wife Amy Clark of Pulaski, one granddaughter, Taylor Clark of Pulaski, one grandson, Matthew Malinowski of Clay and her canine companion Paulie. Geraldine is predeceased by two sons, Peter Clark Jr. who died in 2010 and Paul John Clark who died in 1954, and two sisters Gloria Obleman and Norma Schwarzkopf.

Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, with burial in Richland Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral. A reception following the burial will be held at the Pulaski American Legion. It is with sad hearts that the family of Nancy McChesney announces the death of their dear mother. They find great comfort in knowing how loved and adored was this wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Nancy, age 91, resident of Pulaski, passed away peacefully, January 25, 2018. She was the daughter of George and Xira (Wightman) Woods, born on October 7, 1926, in Pulaski, NY. George was a grocer, harness racer, and postmaster in Pulaski. Nancy was married for 62 years to the late Dr. Hugh McChesney, who passed away September 2010. Before making her permanent home in Pulaski, where she lived most of her life, she lived in South Bend, Indiana and Ft. Campbell, Kentucky while Hugh completed his medical residency and service in the US Army.
Nancy graduated from Pulaski Academy in 1944 and then completed her studies at Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Brooklyn, NY. She was a member of the Pulaski Congregational Church and the Monday Historical Club. Her favorite place was anywhere her kids and grandkids were, often at her family cottage at Sandy Pond, where she loved spending her summers, enjoying family and neighbors, and never tiring of the beautiful Lake Ontario sunsets.
She was predeceased by her brother, David Woods and an infant brother. She leaves behind two daughters and two sons, Barbara (Les) of Harpswell, Maine, Janet (Garry) of Colorado Springs, CO, James (Anita) of Oneonta, NY, and Thomas (Jeanne) of Brewerton, NY. She was a loving and proud grandmother of Mia, Dana, Kyle, Jeff, Tom, Elle, Matthew and Jessica, along with three great-grandchildren, Claire, Reed and Lucy.
To the day she left us Nancy was always able to make people smile. She will be missed. Nancy's family wishes to thank all of those who have sent their condolences.
A family graveside service will be held in the summer. Arrangements by Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski.

Jacqueline V. Gallagher, age 87, life resident of Pulaski, passed away Wednesday at St. Luke's Nursing Home in Oswego. She was born February 5, 1926 in Pulaski, the daughter of Herbert and Hazel DeGraw Spath. She graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1944. She also graduated Community General School of Nursing. Jacqueline married E. Gerald Gallagher on August 29, 1947, and he passed away November 24, 2000. She was employed by Dr. Hugh McChesney as a nurse for 20 years. She was also employed by Schoeller Technical Paper for 10 years. She was a member of Park United Methodist Church in Pulaski. She also played Bridge and enjoyed golfing and camping. Jacqueline was a Goldstar Mother since 1968.

Surviving are one son, Edward G. Gallagher Jr. and his companion, Carol Mills of Fulton; one daughter, Shonnie (David) Bontomase of Pulaski; one sister, Joyce Barclay of Pulaski; one brother, Herbert James Spath of Auburn; one sister-in-law, Sue Brosnan of Altmar; five grandchildren, Michelle (Charles) Dailey, Andrew (Diana) Gallagher, Erin Gallagher, Nicole and Lisa Bontomase; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Megan Dailey and several nieces and nephews. Jacqueline was predeceased by one son, PFC Larry H. Gallagher, who died serving his country in Vietnam on July 25, 1968.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Monday, at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, with burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from noon to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral.

Roberta M. Anderson, 72, of 7475 Morgan Road, Liverpool, formerly of Mexico, died Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center, Syracuse.

She assisted her husband in his medical practice and was a homemaker.

She was born Aug. 27, 1926, at Rome, a daughter of Amos and Loretta Shanley Murtha.

Surviving besides her husband of 50 years, Dr. John R. Anderson, are a daughter, Mary Mowry, Mexico; six sons, J. Mark, Albany, John M., Owings Mills, Md., James F., Charlotte, N.C., Thomas, Skaneateles, Jerome, Baldwinsville, and Paul, Mexico; a sister, Agnes King, Potsdam; a brother, Francis Murtha, Katonah, and 15 grandchildren.

A prayer service will be held at 9:30 Tuesday at Harter Funeral Home, 9 Washington Ave., followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church. Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery.

William Charles Mahaffy, 76, Liverpool, formerly of Pulaski, died Monday in Crouse Hospital, Syracuse.

Mr. Mahaffy served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a manufacturer's representative in the electrical equipment field.

Born June 13, 1926, in Pulaski, son of Yates and Della Babcock Mahaffy, he was a graduate of Pulaski Academy High School and Syracuse University. He married Marjorie E. Clark on Dec. 27, 1947, at the First Methodist Church, Sandy Creek, with the Rev. Herbert Harrison officiating.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Liverpool.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Clark, Constantia, and Richard, Manlius; three brothers, Yates, Paul and Willard, all of Pulaski; a sister, Barbara Wilder, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; five grandchildren, a niece and several nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Joseph F. Heckle III, age 84, resident of Pulaski, since 1940 passed away Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. Joseph was born April 27, 1928 in Syracuse. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1945, and he served in the United States Military from 1945 until 1947. Joseph married Lucy D. Dean on October 6, 1951 and she passed away July 3, 2003. He owned and operated Selkirk Lighthouse for 37 years, retiring in 1986. Joseph was a member of Christ Our Light Parish in Pulaski, the Bernard Gregg Council Knights of Columbus and the Pulaski Lions Club.

Surviving: one daughter, Mary Lee Langley of Syracuse; three sons, Peter J. Heckle of Syracuse, Christopher J. Heckle of Liverpool, and Joseph F. Heckle IV (Maria) of Pulaski; one brother, John A. Heckle of Sun City, FL; one sister, Jane H. Brown of Sackets Harbor; five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Our Light Parish, 23 Niagara Street, Pulaski with a burial in Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski.

Dorothy C. Scharoun, aged 87, resident of Pulaski since 1943, passed away Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. Dorothy was born December 13, 1927 in Watertown, the daughter of John and Esther Yousey Corbett. She graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1945. Dorothy married Robert "Bud" Scharoun on August 23, 1968. She was employed by Niagara Mohawk for 30 years, retiring in 1991. She had previously been employed by Johnson, Drake & Piper Construction Company. Dorothy was a member of Christ Our Light Parish in Pulaski and the Niagara Mohawk 25 year Club.

Surviving are her husband Robert "Bud," one son, Scott Scharoun of Pulaski, two grandchildren, Kourtney Natarelli of Florida and Dylan Scharoun of Pulaski, two brothers Paul Corbett of Oswego and Thomas Corbett of Greenville, SC, and two sisters, Mary Martin of Lyons Falls, NY and Jane Corbett of Florida.

Miss Frank, a native of Syracuse, was graduated from Pulaski High School in 1945. She later was employed as a bookkeeper for Dairylea Company in Syracuse. She retired in 1961 due to ill health. She was a member of the Fernwood Methodist Church. Miss Frank is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Helen Shaw, Mrs. Florence Mowers and Mrs. Anna Pool, all of Pulaski; and a brother, Richard Frank of Liverpool. Margaret J. Crandall, 73, of 3027 County Route 15, Sandy Pond, died Saturday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

Mrs. Crandall lived at Port Ontario and Richland, moving to Sandy Pond in 1946. She was employed at Crescent Corset Factory, Adams, Evergreen Nursing Home, Pulaski, and Hotel Comfort, Sandy Pond, before retiring.

She was a member of the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, the J.B. Butler Women's Relief Corps 127, Pulaski, and the Oswego County Fair Association.

Born Aug. 21, 1926, in Richland, daughter of Rudolph and Pauline Charneski Potish, she graduated in 1945 from Pulaski Academy High School and attended Community- General Hospital School of Nursing, Syracuse.

She married Leon R. Crandall Sr. on Nov. 24, 1946, at Park Methodist Church with the Rev. James Pauley, pastor, officiating.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Leon R. Jr. and Peter J., both of Oswego; a daughter, Susan L. Crandall, Sandy Pond; a brother, Victor Potish, Sandy Pond; two sisters, Sophie Mullen, Blairsville, Ga., and Annie Schryver, Port Ontario, and four grandchildren.

A brother, Nicholas Potish, and a sister, Amelia Potish, died before her.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sandy Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Bell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Daysville Cemetery, Port Ontario.

There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski.

Matthew McArthur Brown Jr., 76, North Syracuse, formerly of Pulaski, died Monday of a heart attack at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.

Mr. Brown was a retired electrical engineer for General Electric, Syracuse.

Born Jan. 2, 1928, in Pulaski, son of Matthew M. and Myrtle Brown, he graduated from Pulaski Academy in 1945, attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Ill., where he took a 10-month course in radio and then joined the Merchant Marine. He graduated from Officer's Candidate School at Fort Riley, Kan., in 1951, and served in the Army as a lieutenant during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

He married Beatrice Mae Hoaglund of Kansas City, Mo., on Feb. 16, 1952, in Stanton, Iowa. The marriage ended in divorce.

He was an accomplished bridge player and had attained life master status.

Surviving are a daughter, Marcia Brown, Severn, Md.; three sons, Mark, Greenville, S.C., Craig, Camden, Maine, and Brian, Syracuse; three sisters, Annie Matacchiero, Albany, Marion Greene, Schenectady, and Lois Tanner, Altmar; a brother, Robert, Sackets Harbor; his companion, Doris Turner Beach, Sackets Harbor, eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.

A sister, Evelyn Janet Darling, and two brothers, Raymond and Archibald, died before him.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church, Cicero.

Matthew McArthur Brown Jr., age 76, died Monday, April 26, 2004, following a brief illness. He was born in Pulaski, New York on January 2, 1928, to Matthew Sr. and Myrtle Brown. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska (BSEE) and retired from General Electric. Matt served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean conflict. He also was an accomplished bridge player, attaining Life Master status. Mr. Brown is survived by: one daughter Marcia of Severn, MD; three sons, Mark of Greenville, SC, Craig of Camden, ME, Brian of Syracuse, NY; eight grandchildren and one great- grandson. He is also survived by three sisters, Annie Matacchiero, Marion Greene and Lois Tanner; one brother, Robert Brown; and special friend Doris Beach. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Evelyn, and brothers Raymond and Archibald. Charlotte F. Vrooman, 81, a resident of Mexico, died Monday at Oswego Hospital. Charlotte was born October 1, 1928 in Pulaski, the daughter of Glenn and Belle Plaisted Vrooman. She resided in Mexico since 1946. She graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1945. Charlotte married Henry Vrooman, April 21, 1947, he died October 2, 2007. She was employed by Cambridge Filter in Syracuse and Birdseye in Fulton for a few years.

Surviving: three sons, Roger (Rebecca) Vrooman of Mexico, David Vrooman of Mexico and Roy (Tammy) Vrooman of Manchester, NH; one daughter, Nancy (Wayne) Johnson of Pulaski; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one daughter, Linda Ackley who died December 2002.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, with burial in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral.

Blanche E. “Twig” Williams, age 87, life resident of Pulaski, passed away Monday at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Oswego. Blanche was born November 1, 1927 in Black River. She graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1945. Blanche married Harry D. “Woody” Williams on September 10, 1949 and he passed away in 1985. She was employed by GTE Phone Company for 13 years. She was a member of the Pulaski Baptist Church. She bowled in several leagues in Pulaski and she also enjoyed golfing at the Elms Golf Club.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas M. Williams and Ted (Mary) Williams, both of Pulaski; and two granddaughters, Maureen and Margaret Williams.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski with burial in Pulaski Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the funeral.
