627 A message from tomlent_1:
I'm writing to everyone I see who has Wanton Green and Sarah Thornton as the parents of Robert Green, 1811-94. Many other people's trees have Robert Green Sr. and Sarah Manning as his parents. Just today I found the 1903 Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois, with biographies of McHenry County citizens. It states that Robert Green, born 1811, husband of Amy Curtis, born 1821, is the son of Robert Green (1762-1812) and Sarah Manning (born 1770) of Schenectady, N.Y. At the time this encyclopedia was written, Amy Curtis Green was still alive, and Robert Green had been dead only nine years! So I'm thinking we should take this seriously. I don't know what, if any, definitive evidence exists that Robert's parents were Wanton Green and Sarah Thornton. This blows up a large and interesting chunk of my family tree. So before the carnage begins, I'm consulting with all of you to get your views.

JOSEPH GREEN, of Green's Corners, represents one of the old families of the town, Robert Green and John Manning, his brother-in-law, having located at the Corners about 1780. They came from Dutchess County. Sarah Manning was Robert Green's wife. She bore him six sons, five of whom lived to advanced age. John M. Green was their second son, born August it, 1792, on the homestead at Green's Corners. He married Mary, daughter of Philip Radley, an early settler in Montgomery County, and located on a farm adjoining the homestead and there lived until December 16, 1883, when he died. He had two children, Susannah (deceased) and Joseph, who owns both his father's and grandfather's homesteads, aggregating 235 acres. I•Ie married Janet, daughter of William Lendrum, of Duanesburgh, and they have one son, John.

628 A Modern History of Windham County by Allen B. Lincoln -
De Witt Clinton Park, displaying the utmost efficiency and ability as superintendent of the Windham County Temporary Home for Children at Putnam, Connecticut, was born in Amboy, New York, November 8, 1856, and is a son of Smith and Harriet J. (Stewart) Park, the father also a native of the Empire state, while the mother was born at Williamstown, Massachusetts. Smith park was the son of Sage Park, a native of Haddam, Connecticut, who went to the state of New York as a young man and became a civil engineer. He was in the employ of the state as one of the engineers in the construction of the Erie canal and laid out several towns in Oswego county, New York, including Amboy, Redfield, 'Williamstown and Constantia. Sage Park was one of the first settlers of Amboy, New York.
Smith Park, the father of De Witt C. Park, was reared and educated at Camden, New York, and in young manhood took up the occupation of farming. He also operated a sawmill at Amboy, New York, for several years. At the outbreak of the Civil war he enlisted at Amboy for active service with the Union Army, Joining the One Hundred and Thirty-second New York Volunteer Infantry, with which he served until 1862, when he was discharged on account of disability contracted in the service and died in the same year, at Amboy, New York. His wife also passed away in 1862. They were the parents of eight children, all of whom were born at Amboy, New York, and two of whom died in infancy. Mary Almira is the deceased wife of Edwin Perry, of Putnam, Connecticut. Harriet Jane became the wife of Asahel Wallace, of Sandy Creek, New York, and has also passed away. Clark Stewart, who enlisted in the One Hundred and Thirty-second New York Volunteer Infantry during the Civil war, being a member of the same company as his father, died in the service. Martha J., who taught school at Putnam for many years prior to her marriage to Samuel H. Bass, of Laredo, Texas, is now deceased. De Witt Clinton, whose name introduces this review, is the next of the family. Fannie Isabelle was a school teacher of Sandy Creek, New York, prior to her removal to Putnam, Connecticut, where she passed away.
De Witt C. Park was reared and educated at Salisbury, New York, to which place he removed after the death of his parents and where he remained to the age of fourteen years. He then became a student in the Fairfield Seminary at Fairfield, New York, where he pursued his studies for three years, after which, he went to Sandy Creek, New York, and there completed his education at the Sandy Creek high school. In 1873 he removed to Putnam, Connecticut, and for a year and a half was employed in the fish market of Edwin Perry. Later he secured a position in the grocery store of Chollar & Davis and afterward was employed in the office of the Moss mill for a year and a half. He next became connected with John 0. Fox, Sr., a lumber merchant, but after a short time purchased a grocery and dry goods business, which he conducted for three years. He then sold his store and was appointed deputy sheriff under Charles H. Osgood in 1885. His loyalty to the duties of the office and his capability are indicated in the fact that he was retained in that position for seventeen years, having been reappointed by Sheriff Charles B. Pomeroy and by his successor, Preston B. Sibley. In 1902 he was appointed assistant jailer at the Windham county jail at Brooklyn, Connecticut, and served in that capacity for eleven years. By the county board of commissions he was appointed to take charge of the Windham County Temporary Home for Children in Putnam in 1913 and has since occupied this position. He displays the utmost devotion to the children and their welfare, putting forth every effort that will advance their interests, and while there were fifty-six children when he took charge in 1913, there are now one hundred and twenty-six children in the home.
At Putnam, Connecticut, on the 10th of May, 1876, Mr. Park was united in marriage to Miss Addle Elizabeth Houghton of Putnam, a daughter of Augustus and Elizabeth (Hawkins) Houghton. They have become the parents of three children, all born in Putnam. Alice E., the eldest, is the wife of John F. Pallor, who is connected with the American Type Foundry Company of Boston, Massachusetts, and lives in Hingham, Massachusetts. They have two children, Alice E. and Ruth D. Clinton A. is deceased. Helen M., the youngest, is the wife of Eben W. Holden, who has charge of the fish packing plant of Prospect Harbor, Maine, for the E. T. Russell Company of Boston. They have one child, Marion Lincoln.
In his political views Mr. Park is an earnest republican, having supported the party since age conferred upon him the right of franchise. He belongs to Quinebaug Lodge No. 106, A. F. & A. M.; Putnam Chapter No. 41, R. A. M.; Montgomery Council, R. & S. M., of Danielson; Columbia Commandery, K. T. of Norwich, Connecticut; and Israel Putnam Lodge No. 33, I. 0. 0. F., of which he is a past master. He and all of his family are members of the Congregational church and in his Christian belief are found the motive springs of his conduct and the rules which govern him in every relation of life.
Park, Dewitt Clinton (I70365)

629 A most distressing and fatal accident occurred on the John L. Sage farm in Williamstown, Saturday afternoon, but the exact facts in regard to the affair will never be known.

George Chase the victim, was in the employ of Mr. Sage and at the time was the only one in the field, where he was driving a team on a horse rake. Towards night the team strayed toward home one being found cast in the road, and the other had previously been caught and tied to a barn to await the owner on the theory that the team had got away and the driver would be along shortly. As soon as Mr. Sage learned the team was loose he immediately went to the field where he found Mr. Chase lying on the ground with the horse rake some distance from him.

Mr. Sage questioned Chase as to how the accident occurred, but he simply answered: "I don't know lift me up, for I am going to die" and without another intelligible word he expired.

Upon examination it was found that three ribs were broken and that there was a slight wound back of the ear where a rake tooth had snapped and struck. From the fact that his hat was found only about ten feet from his body it is thought probable some accident had occurred before the team ran away.

it is surmised by the family that Mr. Chase may have had a fainting spell to which he was sometimes subject and that he pitched forward from the rake. In the fall the ribs were fractured, piercing his lungs and causing his death.

Mr. Chase was 67 years of age, a resident of the village of Williamstown for thirty-five years, having always resided in the town, and for 28 years had been employed by Mr. Sage. For twenty-seven years he had sung in the Methodist choir. He leaves a widow, two sons, Rowley and William of Oriskany Falls and three daughters, Mrs. A. L. Pruyn of Sandy Creek, Mrs. William Nicholson of Daysville and Mrs. Emery Gaylord of Oriskany Falls. The funeral was held Tuesday, Revs. Hillman and Grosh officiating.

642 Aaron Slosson Richards - June 21, 1821 - June 30, 1893. Wife of Ann J. Sweetland Richards. Married February 3, 1852.

Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, July 6, 1893 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - Very suddenly in Pulaski, New York, June 30, 1893, Aaron Slosson Richards, aged 72 years. This well known and highly respected citizen was born at Richfield, Otsego county, New York January 21, 1821. He came to this town, Richland, in 1835, and settled at South Richland, making his home with an uncle, J. N. Dewey. Here he lived until his marriage with Miss Ann J. Sweetland, of Jordan, Onondaga county, February 3, 1852. Mr. and Mrs. Richards resided in South Richland until November, 1866, when they removed to Pulaski, where they have since resided. He was baptized and received into the membership of the South Richland Baptist church in December, 1849, when Rev. J. S. Everingham was pastor. He was regularly ordained deacon of that body in 1856, and was made deacon of the Pulaski church in December, 1869. Three children blessed this union, one of whom died in early childhood. Another, Adelbert A., died in 1890, aged 31 years. Sonora A., the only child surviving, is now with her mother to comfort and console her in these hours of sorrow and desolation. Deacon Richards was a man of most positive convictions and he acted strictly in accord with their leadings. In discussing any plan of action, the first thing he considered was not whether the thing was politic, or liable to succeed, but, "was it right." While many may have disagreed with him, all alike yielded to him, his high compliment. "He is perfectly honest in his dealings and acts precisely in accord with his convictions of right." A good man has gone to his reward and his departure is a great loss not only to the church of which he was a member but also to the community at large. The funeral was held at his late residence and the services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. D. J. Bailey.
