Newspaper Obituary - Wednesday, September 28, 1938 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Dr. Clayton H. Davis Dies At Home on North Street - Dr. Clayton H. Davis, for more than half a century a practicing dentist in this village, died at his home on North street, early last Friday morning, surviving his wife by a little more than two months. Mrs. Davis died July 14th. Dr. Davis was born in the village of Orwell March 28, 1851, a son of James F. and Amelia A. Stowell Davis. As a young man he took up the study of dentistry with his father and in the early 1870s began practice. In October 1885 he married Abbie M. Brown. In the fall of that year, at the urgent request of his sister, Dr. Lavinia R. Davis, then a student in Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio, he took his bride to this city where he practiced his profession until September of the following year. Then he and Mrs. Davis came to Pulaski and he established practice here which was to continue uninterrupted for the next 52 years. During the many years as a resident of this village, Dr. Davis enjoyed a practice that brought him into relationship with many people of eastern Oswego county, and he made many friends. His skill, quiet and sympathetic nature brought many sufferers to his office, and up to the day before his death he continued to serve a discriminating clientele. As a youth he became a member of the old Congregational church of Orwell. In Pulaski he and Mrs. Davis were attendants of and contributors to the Methodist Episcopal church. He was an ardent student of the Bible and spent much of his spare time reading, analyzing and classifying the scriptures, filling his Bible with marginal references and comments. 9329 Dr. Newell Wright - June 21, 1788 - April 21, 1867. Son of Dennis and Lois B. Newell Wright. Husband of Ruth Sprague Wright & Sarah Gilbert Wright. [Note: Ruth Wright died January 2, 1831 in Cazenovia, New York and is buried there in Evergreen Cemetery.]
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, May 2, 1867 Pulaski Democrat - Pulaski, New York - Died - In this village, on the 21st inst., after a short and painful illness, Dr. Newell Wright, in the seventy-ninth year of his age. He was born in 1788, in Canaan, Connecticut, and with his father's family removed to Saratoga County, New York, about the year 1800. He received the rudiments of a classical education at Ballston Academy, and studied for the practice of medicine at Fairfield Medical Seminary. After practicing medicine for a few years at Charleston, Saratoga County, he abandoned the profession, and shortly after located as a merchant at Cazenovia, Madison county, where he resided many years. During his residence at Cazenovia he joined the Methodist Church there, then under the charge of Rev. George Gary. To this church, its doctrines, its clergy and its prosperity, he became more and more attached with increasing years. In the days of his prosperity no one was more liberal in time and money in promoting the advancement of Methodism. He was one of the founders and trustees, and for many years Treasurer, of the Oneida Conference Seminary. He was for several years, Justice of the Peace and Supervisor of the town of Cazenovia, and chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Madison County. About the year 1840 he removed to this Village, and has resided here since. The deceased had a very high appreciation of the benefits of a liberal education to individuals and to society, and when able to do so, was very liberal in assisting young men to procure an education, and in promoting the cause of learning and religion generally. He considered no contributions on taxation oppressive which aided the building of churches and seminaries of learning. He was an intelligent, kind-hearted, liberal man, a good neighbor and a reliable friend. Of a friendly social disposition, no breath of scandal or slander ever escaped his lips. He was an enemy to no man, and no man his. To the last days, and almost last moments of his life he possessed unusual physical and mental vigor. Stricken down by sudden disease he was conscious that his last hour had come. Suffering from great pain, he died without fear, and in full confidence of the promises of the religion he had for more than forty years professed, and according to the precepts of which had tried, and succeeded as well as poor human nature can, to live. Vastly more than this poor tribute is due to the memory of the deceased, but vain and foolish are eulogy, monuments of brass or marble, if we survive not in the affectionate memory of friends.

EMERY AND FRANK TRYON BROTHERS
Out Looking After Nets Sunday Night - Fairled to Return - Floundered Boat Found

Emery and Frank Tryon have been missing since Sunday night when they took a boat and went out on Ontario Bay (North Pond). These men are well known fishermen, prominent residents and brothers. Emery Tryon, who is some 65 years of age has been a life long fisherman and for many years has owned and resided on the Lake Shore farm in the northwestern part of the town of Richland on what was previously known as the Twitchell place. It is a sightly place and faces Lake Ontario on a bluff just north of the Deer Creek marsh. Previously Mr. Tryon resided on Lake Erie for a number of years and before that in the western portion of the town of Sandy Creek. Both men are sons of the late Alonzo Tryon, Mr. Emory Tryon being the oldest son and Frank the youngest. For many years the latter has been proprietor of the Outlet house and only the other day said the house had enjoyed one of the best seasons this year.

Sunday night was rough and now those familiar with the moods of Old Ontario wonder that these men who knew her so well should have ventured out that night. Yet such was the confidence of their families in their ability to weather most any gale and negotiate a landing that there was no apprehension as to their safety till they failed to return Monday morning. Then the shores were searched in order to obtain some clew, but none was found.

Tuesday the wind was off shore and the crew from the coast guard station and several other boats were manned and search made for the missing men. On the Carl Island Shore was found their paddle and oar and a fish box; to the westward half way between the island and the sand dune known as Sawtooth was found a steel skiff with one end out of the water and the other anchored to a net; somehow the Tryons were thrown into the water. Every effort is being made to recover the bodies and the bay is being dragged constantly as the weather permits.

Mr. Emery Tryon is survived by his wife and several brothers and sons and daughters. He was highly esteemed by all who knew him and had devoted many years to sturgeon fishing. Frank Tryon was not married and with his mother, Mary S., ran the Outlet house one of the finest located of the several resort properties in this section. It is the oldest and longer than the present generation can recall has been the Laek Ontario resort of this section. Emery and Frank Tryon were half brothers.
The Syracuse Post-Standard this morning gives this version of the finding of the boat:

Late Tuesday afternoon the Big Sandy crew discovered the vote of the two fishermen at the mouth of the channel fully two miles north of the Outlet house, and the oars were found floating in the pond, about a mile from shore

TRYON BOYS FOUND
Bodies Recovered in Ontario Bay-Double Funeral at the Outlet House Friday.
Just before the News went to Press on Wednesday afternoon word came to hand that the body of Frank Tryon had been recovered. It was found within 10 or 20 feet from where the boat upset half a mile east of the sand dunes and half a mile south of Carl Island. The recovery was made about 3 o'clock by the Big Sandy Coast Guard crew who had been dragging the bay that day, as well as the previous day. The men in the boat which recovered the body of Frank Tryon were: Fayette Noble, No., 1, J. W. Dutcher, L. F. Broadhagen. In the coast guard boat on the previous day were: Capt. R. G. Mrton, Gordon Davis, Dennis Colwell, Andrew Cast, Clark Potts.
The body was taken to the Outlet house and Coroner Hollis notified:

The testimony taken by Coroner Hollis showed that Frank and Emery Tryon went out on Ontario Bay at 7 o'clock Sunday night and that the wind blew a gale from the southwest. The watch on the person of Frank Tryon stopped at 8:17 which is thought to be about the time of the accidental drowning by those familiar with all the circumstances. On Frank Tryon's person were found three wallets in which were $258.97.

Thursday morning about 9 a.m. the body of Emery Tryon was recovered near that of his brother. He had on oil skins which made it rather difficult for the grappling hooks to secure a hold. Jay Lindsey and Emery Tryon's son, Milford O. Tryon were in the boat that made the recovery.

Emery Tryon is survived by his wife and five sons, Elmer of Richland, Milford O. of Sandy Creek, Ray C. of Texas, Stephen of Huron, Ohio, Herman of Sandy Creek who is in the Coast Guard service at Ft. Niagara and four daughters, Mrs. Grace Beers of Conneaut, Ohio; Ella, wife of Gleason Weed of Ellisburg; Miss Anna Tryon and Alice, wife of Clarence C. Edwards, who reside at the Emery Tryon home.

The funeral of the brothers was largely attended at the Outlet House on Friday, REb. B. A. Walton of Spragueville, a former pastor of the Goodenough church officiating.

Emery and Frank Tryon were half brothers, sons of Olonzo [sic] Tryon. Their grandfather, Levi Tryon, settled in the northwestern part of the town of Richland about 1800 on the farm owned in later years by Wellington Tryon. He came from Oneida county. The family has owned the shores of Lake Ontario for many years and have always been active fishermen. Emery Tryon owned 300 acres of Deer Creek marsh besides 200 acres of hard land adjoining.
The boat they went out in was a wooden boat not steel as reported and was 16 feet overall according to the testimony of Fred and Earl Tryon who saw them go out on the pond the night their boat foundered.

When found this boat was on end with 6 or 8 inches of the bow sticking out of the water while the other end was embeded [sic] in the mud. Frank Tryon was buried beside his father in Pulaski cemetery and Emery Tryon was laid to rest in Woodlawn cemetery in Sandy Creek.
