Whitney, 90, Local Att'y, Dies Last rites for Attorney Frederick Grant Whitney, 90, who died last Thursday morning at the Evergreen Nursing Home, were held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Taylor Funeral Home. The Rev. M. Howard St. Cyr, rector of St. James Episcopal Church, officiated. Interment was in Pulaski Cemetery. Masonic rites were held at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m. Acting as bearers were Attorney Lynn W. Smith, Attorney Edwin W. Warner, Horace G. Farrington and Rexford E. Potts. Mr. Whitney had been in failing health for the past five years and had been a patient in the North Park Nursing Home before entering the Evergreen Home (his former family home) in April 1956. His only close survivor is his wife, Mrs. Honore Haylock Greene Whitney, whom he married in Albany on June 18, 1913, who is a patient at the Evergreen Home. There are also several nieces and nephews. Mr. Whitney was born in Pulaski March 19, 1868, the son of Henry and Martha Smith Whitney. He was graduated from Pulaski Academy in 1886 and from Syracuse University Law College in 1894. He studied law in the office of S.C. Huntington and Son in Pulaski following his graduation from law school and was admitted to the bar in 1894. The partnership formed with S.C. Huntington, Jr. was dissolved in 1904 and from that time he practiced alone until his retirement several years ago. Following the closing of both the Pulaski National Bank and the Peoples National Bank, Mr. Whitney was appointed attorney for the receiver of both banks. He was at one time attorney for the Standard Oil Co., the New York Central and the Salmon River Power Co., in this locality. He was village attorney from 1902-1906 and village clerk 1898, 1899 and also served on the Pulaski Water Commission resigning in 1935. He also served as chairman of the Selective Service Board in World War I. Mr. Whitney was once very active in Republican politics. He served as assemblyman from Oswego county from 1904 to 1908. He was in the Assembly with Senator James W. Wadsworth, Senator Robert F. Wagner and Gov. Alfred E. Smith. During this time he was chairman of the Excise committee and a member of the Judiciary committee and the Public Institutions committee. He was a member of the Pulaski Masonic Lodge, 415 F. & A.M. for more than 50 years and was a member of the Ringgold Fire Co. in its early organization. | 9904 | F.L. Blount, Area Farmer, Succumbs at 82 F. Leland Blount, 82, of the North Ridge Road, Lacona, died Tuesday, March 18, 1975 In the House of the Good Samaritan, after a long illness. Born November 2, 1892, at Pine Meadows, in the Town of Orwell, the son of Andrew T. and Nellie Ackley Blount, he had lived in the Sandy Creek-Lacona section since 1898, graduating from Sandy Creek High School in the Class of 1913. While he was attending high school he was a member of the earliest basketball team from the local school. Mr. Blount attended Cornell University, Ithaca, for two years, majoring in agriculture. He married Doris L. Wheeler of Mannsville, June 26, 1919, and for forty years the couple owned and operated a farm on the North Ridge Road, until Mr. Blount retired because of ill health. In 1928, he was named a Master Farmer by the New York State Farm Bureau for his outstanding dairy records. Mr. Blount was a seventy vear member of the United Methodist Church of Sandy Creek, and a member of the Sandy Creek Grange, No. 127 Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Doris Blount, two sons, T. Richard Blount, Lacona, and Derrill E. Blount, Mannsville; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren. Two cousins, Mrs. Florence B. Parker of Naples, Fla.; and Howard P. Blount, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Renshaw Bay, are also among his survivors. The funeral for Mr. Blount was held last Friday at the Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek, with Rev. Ivan Greenfield, pastor of the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek. Born June 8, 1912, in Sandy Creek, daughter of Gilbert and Frances Weston Stafford, she attended schools in Sandy Creek. She was a homemaker. She married Howard N. White on Nov. 29, 1929, in the Lacona Baptist parsonage. He died Jan. 28, 1990. Surviving besides her daughter are another daughter, Sharon Cordell, Sandy Creek; six sons, Wayne, Phillip and Reginald, all of Sandy Creek, Howard, Sacramento, Calif., Gary, Richland, and Terry, Pulaski; two sisters, Agnes Slater, Central Square, and Pauline Brandt, Syracuse; 29 grandchildren, 41 great- grandchildren and eight great- great-grandchildren. | 9937 | Faron Keith Cronk, 57, of Mannsville passed away in his home on Sunday, November 4th, 2018. Faron was born on August 28, 1961 in Syracuse, NY, to James Cronk and Donna Stowell-Babcock. He graduated from Sandy Creek Central School in 1979, and served in the United States Army from 1979 to 1986. He married Julie Ann Miller on November 24, 1979. He worked for The Fulton Companies in Pulaski, NY, for 30 years. Faron was a member of the Sandy Creek Community Park Association. He was a born again Christian who is now in the loving arms of his Lord, Jesus Christ. He always enjoyed being outside, riding his motorcycle, camping, and going for long car rides, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Julie; children Shannon and Justin; grandchildren Tyler and Alexis; siblings, Jim Cronk Jr, Washington, Terry Babcock, Texas, Christina Babcock, Norwich, Jonathan Babcock, Fulton, and Tracy Babcock, Norwich. | 9938 | FATAL ACCIDENT.--WHITMAN GOIT, of Galen, In., met with a dreadful accident, while felling timber in the woods, near his house, on the 3d inst. He was engaged in getting out timber for rail road ties. Cutting down a tree, in falling, the top became tangled with others, which caused the butt to slide back, catching and crushing his leg. He was there held for some time before he was found, and had become chilled and exhausted. Surgical assistance was procured, and two doses of morphine administered from the effects of which he did not recover, but died on the morning of the 7th. He was formerly a resident of this place, and removed from Pulaski in 1843, he was a brother of David Goit, of Mexico. He was 46 years of age, and has left a wife and ten children. He was the first settler of the section of country where he died, and friends had one by one gathered around him from this county and other sections, by whom he was highly esteemed, and who wore accustomed to look to him for counsel. | 9939 | Father was Nathaniel Haggerty and mother was Cornelia Ann Flint, daughter of Abraham H. Flint and great grandaughter of Robert Flint, the Pioneer. LaMott Haggerty, aka Martin Flint, enlisted in the Army November 26, 1861. Upon going home on leave, he became ill and could not get back on time, so he re-enlisted as "Martin Flint" which was the name of his uncle Martin Flint. He was mustered out of the Civil War and Honorably Discharged on June 8, 1865 at Raleigh, N.C. by reason of close of the war. Mott Haggerty Civil War Commemeration document was presented to his wife Maria and children; Joseph, Frank, Nellie and Charles in July 1913. Through LaMott's mother Cornelia (Flint) Haggerty, he is a descendant of the famed Robert Flint and his sons noted as the "Five Fighting Flints" of the Battle of Oriskany, New York which helped to turn the tide of the war. "SOUTH COLUMBIA ... After months of blindness, weakness, weariness and constant decline, Mott Haggerty's hour of departure arrived at 3 P. M., July 26, 1926. He was one of the seven children of Nathaniel Haggerty and Cornelia Flint, and Nathaniel was one of the 12 children of James Haggerty of 1760 who married Lois Finch in Ballston, Saratoga County. Of their four children Joseph died, Frank with his family resides at Monticello, Nellie married Wesley Purple and has four children Roy, Helen, George and Hazel.
