Newspaper Obituary - Saturday Evening, August 30, 1919 Oswego Daily Times - Oswego, New York - Death of Rev. Joseph R. Hutchins - Pulaski, August 30 - The Rev. Joseph R. Hutchins, 77, for many years an active Baptist minister, died Thursday night at his home in Fernwood, following an illness of about two years. He retired from active ministerial work about two or three decades ago. Mr. Hutchins was born May 18, 1842, in Fulton, where he received his early education, graduating from Colgate University in 1876, and a year later was ordained in the Baptist church at Hermitage, Wyoming county. It was his first charge. He was stationed there three years and then became pastor of the Baptist church at Millport, Chemung county, serving that society a similar number of years. His next pastorate was at Hinrods, Yates county, where in 1890, he retired from active ministerial work, retaining his residence in that place about five years after resigning his charge. In 1895 he went to Fernwood, six miles south of Pulaski, where he had since made his home. Besides his widow, he is survived by two brothers, Warren T. Hutchins of Fernwood and Ward Ross Hutchins of the town of Richland. The funeral will be held in the Baptist church at Fernwood tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. E. Barrett. Interment will be made in the Willis cemetery.
