John Vernon Russell, 70, of River Road, Brewerton, died Monday at his home after a long illness.
A native of Fulton, he had lived in Central Square for 33 years.
He retired in 1984 and was the owner and operator of Russell Trucking Co. since 1947. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Mattydale Post 3146, and a communicant of St. Michael's Church Central Square.
Surviving are his wife, the former Aretta Landphere of Central Square; two daughters, Beverly Kelly of Syracuse, Darlean Russell of Central Square; a son, Max E. Russell of Central Square; two sisters, Blanche Kirchbaum of Syracuse; and Thelma Jabot of Lompoc. Calif.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be announced Friday at the Krueger Brewerton Chapel.
Burial will be in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel 9525 S. Main St., Brewerton.
