Newspaper Obituary - Monday, March 10, 1986 Banner Times - Pulaski, New York - Husband, Wife, Died March 3 - An elderly Richland native and his wife died within hours of each other Monday of apparent heart attacks. Raymond P. Filkins, Jr., 66, County Route 2, Richland, died Monday morning, March 3, 1986, at his home and his wife, Arlis I., 64, died at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, at 9:49 p.m. The Oswego County Sheriffs Department investigated Mr. Filkins's death, but Undersheriff Reuel A. Todd said, "It's believed to have been natural causes at this time." The funerals were at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, with the Rev. Earl M. Smith, pastor, Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Spring burial will be in Richland Cemetery. Calling hours were 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The couple are survived by a son, Thomas J., Pulaski; a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Carol) Martin, Richland, and seven grandchildren. Mr. Filkins is also survived by two brothers, R. Neil, North Syracuse, and John H. of Richland, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Obleman of Richland. Surviving Mrs. Filkins are a stepmother, Anna Bushaw, Camden; two brothers, George Bushaw, McConnellsville, and a stepsister, Sonja Kolonko, Camden. Mr. Filkins was born March 21, 1919, in Richland, the son of Raymond and Florence Coon Filkins. He attended Pulaski Academy and Central School. He married Arlis I. Bushaw, September 25, 1940. The couple lived in Richland. Mr. Filkins worked for New York Central Railroad and Conrail in Watertown as a car inspector for 44 years, retiring in 1979. He was a past member of the Richland Fire Department. Mrs. Filkins was born December 13, 1921, in Pyrites, the daughter of Leonard and Agnes Badger Bushaw. She attended school in Sandy Creek. She had been employed by Curtiss Mills, Richland.
