- GRANBY, Mass. - Robert L. Allen, 77, of Granby, Mass., died peacefully Saturday evening (Aug. 4, 2007 at the Renaissance Manor on Cabot in Holyoke. Born in Hornell, Jan. 9, 1930, he was the son of the late George H. and Marcella (Burdick) Allen. He attended and graduated schools in the Almond and Hornell area. Robert worked as a food service purchaser for Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass., until he retired. He was predeceased by his brother, Jerry Burdick. He is survived by a brother, Russell Allen and his wife Virginia of Almond; two sisters, Vicki Ide and her husband Bill of Canisteo, and Bonnie Allen of Memphis, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. A committal will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday evening in the family plot at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the charities that he supported would be appreciated, Salvation Army, 306 Taylor St., Granby, MA 01033; the Heifer Project International, 1 World Ave., Little Rock, AR 72202; or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
