- STOCK CAR ENTHUSIAST ROBERT LYNG, 61, DIES

Robert G. Lyng, 61, of R.D. 4, Centerville Road, Pulaski, formerly of Watertown, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at A. L. Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton. He had been ill for the past several years.
A prayer service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Watertown, with the Rev. Liam O'Doherty officiating. Spring burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Intensive Care Unit at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Florence; his mother, Stella, Watertown; two sons, Robert M., Pulaski, and Donald G., Theresa; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Kathie) Chapel, Lacona; three brothers, Francis and James, Fort Lauderdale. Fla., and Patrick, Watertown; two sisters, Mrs. Patrick (Diane) Shortsleeve and Mrs. Ronald (Mary) Newman, both of Fort Lauderdale; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Dorothy Karl, died previously.
He was born on Jan. 31, 1932, in Watertown, a son of Gordon and Stella DeRoshia Lyng. He graduated from Immaculate Heart Academy in 1949.
He married Florence Cole on April 29, 1949, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Benoit Dostie, officiating. Mr. Lyng was a self-employed trucking contractor for 40 years.
He was a former communicant at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and an avid stock car enthusiast.

Robert G. Lyng, 61, of Centerville Road died Tuesday at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton.
Mr. Lyng was a native of Watertown. He was a self-employed contractor.
Surviving are his wife, Florence; two sons, Robert M. of Pulaski and Donald A. of Theresa; a daughter, Kathie Chapel of Lacona; his mother, Stella Lyng of Watertown; three brothers, Francis and James, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Patrick of Watertown; two sisters, Diane Shortsleeve and Mary Newman, both of Fort Lauderdale; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
