- Newspaper Obituary - March 6, 1994 Syracuse Herald American - John J. "Jack" McCarthy, 61, of North Main Street Road, died Friday at his home after a long illness. He was a native of Auburn and lived in the area all of his life. Mr. McCarthy was employed by General Electric Co. before retiring after 40 years. He was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a member of the John Cool Post of the American Legion. He was involved with Little League Baseball and McCarthy Racing. Surviving are his wife, the former Esther Bauder; three daughter, Wendy Cook of Port Byron, Jeri Jo Noga of Cayuga and Susan Dziuba of Auburn; a son, Michael of Port Byron; a sister, Lois Quill of Auburn; two brothers, Robert and Richard McCarthy, both of Auburn; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Church, Port Byron. Spring burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Port Byron. Calling hours 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Plis Funeral Home, 220 State St., Auburn. Contributions may be made to the John J. McCarthy Engineering Scholarship Fund, c/o Wendy Cook, P.O.
