- Newspaper Obituary - February 25, 1954 Oswego Palladium Times - Recover Body Of Phoenix Man In Canal Wednesday - Harry Bands, 46, Had Been Missing Since Last December 14 - Harry C. Bands, Spring St , Phoenix, who had been missing more than two months and whose body was recovered from the barge canal at Phoenix yesterday afternoon, was a victim of drowning it was announced by District Attorney Richard N. Donovan upon receipt of a report from Dr. Ephraim Kelderman, county pathologist, of the results of an autopsy. The body was discovered when two large barges at Lock 1 were moved. It was first sighted by James Crosby of Syracuse and later taken from the water by George Plunkett and Donald Potter, canalmen. The barges had not been moved since having tied up near the Lock early in the winter. Bands, according to the officials, was last seen. Dec. 16 crossing the bridge over the Oswego River at Phoenix. It was about 6 o'clock in the evening. After the authorities were advised that Bands was missing, it was learned that he had not collected pay due him at Leo Kellihers Three Rivers Inn where he was last employed. At that time Mrs. Bands reported that her husband had been brooding over matters of health and money. Mr Bands was a veteran of World War II, had resided in Phoenix for 17 years. Besides his wife, Mrs. Velma Loop Bands, he is survived by three daughters, Faye, Cheryl and Verna Bands and a sister Mrs Lillian Thorne. Burial with military honors, will be made in Phoenix Rural.
