- Newspaper Obituary - March 1, 2003 Post Standard - Syracuse, New York - Durward C. Hickox February 27, 2003 - Durward C. Hickox, 93 of Syracuse, died Thursday at Van Duyn Home and Hospital. He was born in Fish Creek, NY on October 18, 1909. He was a World War Two veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and a lifetime member of the Eastwood American Legion Post 12 76. He was a barber in the Eastwood area for 64 years owning and operating several of his own shops. He was a charter member of the Eastwood Baptist Church and Deacon Emeritus. His wife of 66 years, the former Eva L. McGann, died in 1996. Survivors: two sons, Robert of Warners, NY, and Charles of AZ; a daughter, Beverly lanuzi of Skaneateles; one sister: Doris Charbonnier of Leesburg, FL; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are to be held at 2:00pm Sunday at the Eastwood Baptist Church, 3212 James Street, Syracuse. Calling hours from 1:00-2:00p.m. preceding the services. Goddard- Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home at 3111 James St., Syracuse, is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at a future date in White Chapel Memory Gardens, Dewitt, NY.
