- FLEMING - Michael Joseph “Fred” Janas Jr., 44, of Fleming, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 30, 2015. He was born in Auburn on Feb. 19, 1971, the son of Michael Sr. and Margaret Vreeland Janas, and had been an area life resident. “Fred,” as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was a Union Springs High School graduate, class of 1989. He soon entered the Army and was in the National Guard for several years, serving our country proudly. Michael currently owned and operated, Digger Enterprises, LLC in Fleming. He was a very gifted and skilled equipment operator. Besides working most of the time, which he loved to do, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mike’s most cherished and special times were those spent with his beloved daughters and the rest of his family. His life was all too brief, but captured the hearts of many in the time he was able to share with them. He leaves behind a legacy that will never be duplicated again!! His beautiful, blue eyes and infectious smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by two loving daughters, Natalie and Grace Janas; parents, Michael Sr. and Margaret Janas; sisters, Robin (Frank) McKay, Jennifer Janas, and Sarah (Jason) Leszczynski; brothers, Benjamin and Frank Janas; nieces and nephews, Nathan, Sarah, Joshua, Emily, and Anna McKay, Peter Kowaney, Jack Scharick, Mariska and Jarek Leszczynski; grandmother, Teresa Janas; great-aunt, Lorna McLean; as well as several other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and close feline companion, “Cassie.” Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at 10 a.m. this Saturday in St. Mary’s Church for Michael’s Mass of Christian burial with the Rev. Frank Lioi as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn, NY 13021. Contributions may be made in Michael’s memory to either the American Heart Association, or to the SPCA, 41 York St., Auburn, NY 13021.
