    • QUEENSBURY - Vernice M. (Himes) Martin, 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Saratoga Hospital surrounded by her family. Born on May 20, 1923, in Central Square, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Hazel (Allen) Himes. On Jan. 11, 1947, Vernice married John A. Martin at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse, N.Y. John passed away Dec. 16, 2007. Vernice cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She also had a special compassion for animals, and especially loved her dogs. She took great pride in her yard work, and loved gardening and growing flowers while logging many miles on her lawn tractor. She was also a huge fan of Danny O’Donnell, an Irish tenor, and was overjoyed to have recently attended one of his concerts. Vernice enjoyed traveling with her husband and visiting her brother and sister in California. Left to cherish her memories are her sons, John Martin and his wife, Cindy, Thomas Martin and his wife, Patti, James Martin and his wife, Maureen; her grandchildren, Mollie and Adam Martin, Abby, Jarred, and John Andrew Martin, and James and Joseph Martin. Vernice is also survived by her sister, Margaret May and her husband, Russell. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. At Vernice’s request, there will be no calling hours. A celebration of Vernice’s life will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at St. Mary’s Church, 62 Warren St., Glens Falls, N.Y., with the Rev. Liam Condon officiating. Rite of Committal will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Bristol family for taking such good care of Vernice, and also to the 3rd floor nursing station at Saratoga Hospital for its excellent care. Arrangements are under care of M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls, NY 12803.
