- Winthrop: Joseph Mere, 73, died on Saturday (3/23/194) in Winthrop. He was an expert mechanic.
He was born on June 12, 1866 at Huntingdon, Quebec, a son of Michael and Margaret Dulare Mere, both of Canada. He was twice married. His first wife, Miss Justine Bowen was killed several, many years ago by a car, when crossing the road in Massena on her way home from church.
Eleven children were born to them, three of whom died in infancy. After her death he married Mrs. Eunice Hosme Davis. The couple moved from Massena 12 years ago to the Artemus Steenberg farm, which they purchased. Mrs. Mere passed away Nov. 4, 1934
He was an employee of the Massena Aluminum Plant, having nearly completed 25 years there.

He is survived by three daughters and five sons, Mrs. Claude (Lixina) Gary, Winthrop; Mrs. Clifford (Josephine) LeBean, Dexter; Mrs. Maurice (Rose) LaBrosse, Massena; Amie and Oscar Mere, Winthrop; Emery, Alec and Wilfred Mere, Massena. He also leaves several grandchildren.
