Military Service Civil War: Enlisted June 7, 1861 at New York City, New York; Mustered in June 7, 1861 as a Private in Company I, 37th New York Volunteers Infantry; August 19, 1861 promoted to Corporal; June 30, 1862 was wounded in action at White Oakes, Virginia, Mustered out June 22, 1863 with Company at New York City, New York; Enlisted December 25, 1863 at Richland, New York; Mustered in January 8, 1864 as a Private in Company L, 14th Regiment New York Volunteers Artillery; Mustered out August 26, 1865 with Company at Washington, D. C. Son of Lawrence and Selinda Hughes Wolcott. Husband of Sarah Wolcott & Lydia Wolcott. [Note: Sarah Wolcott died June 4, 1884 in Albion Township, New York, place of burial is unknown.]
Newspaper Obituary - Thursday Evening, December 15, 1927 Syracuse Herald - Syracuse, New York - John Wolcott, 92, Civil War veteran of Company I, 27th Heavy Artillery of New York, and member of J. B. Butler Post, G. A. R., of Pulaski, died this morning after a lingering illness at his home, 339 Seymour Street. He is survived by a son, John Wolcott of Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs. Willard Thomas of Buffalo; a brother, Sylvanus Wolcott of Pulaski; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Robbins of Aurora, Illinois, and a grandson Hubert Wolcott of Syracuse. Funeral services will be conducted at the undertaking parlors of A. C. Schumaster Saturday morning at 7 o'clock with burial in Richland.
