Merritt E. Hilton, 83, of 116 Lewis St., died Thursday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.
Mr. Hilton worked for the Pulaski Village Department of Public Works for 20 years, retiring in 1979. Previously, he was employed by the Pulaski Police Department and worked with Leslie Price Contracting for many years.
Born June 12, 1913, in Pulaski, son of Leonard J. and Cecile E. Smith Hilton, he attended Pulaski schools and was a lifelong resident of Pulaski.
He married Bessie R. Barker on Jan. 25, 1941, in Mexico with the Rev. Harold Barnard officiating.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Clifton E. and Ronald M., both of Pulaski; two daughters, Maxine E. Hilton, Pulaski, and Leslie J. Goodway, Richland; a brother, Kenneth, Pulaski; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A son, Wayne, died in 1966, and a son, Gary, died in 1992.
The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Foster-Hax Funeral Home with the Rev. Elizabeth Mowry officiating. Burial will be in Pulaski Cemetery later this spring.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
