  Newspaper Obituary - Tuesday, January 27, 1998 Syracuse Post Standard - John H. Filkins, 86, formerly of Richland, died Thursday at Columbia Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Fla. Born in Richland, he lived many years in the Richland and Redfield area. He was formerly employed as a painter with the painters' union in Oswego. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Pulaski Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289. He was a merchant marine sailor on the Great Lakes for many years. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
