Newspaper Obituary - Thursday, December 8, 1927 Sandy Creek News - Sandy Creek, New York - Miss Harriet Mellen, 96, life resident of Richland, died Wednesday, December 7, at the home of her niece, Mrs. Elton(Anna) M. Lighthall, Richland, following an illness of two weeks. Miss Mellen was born April 26, 1831, at Richland and was the last in a family of six. Her family came from Brattleboro, Vermont, and were pioneers of Richland, living in a log house. The vicinity during that period was a vast wilderness of pine trees, only a few log houses having been built. Last rites will be held in the Church of Christ, Richland, at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. J. Brownell. Burial will be in Richland cemetery.
