- Dorothy E. Tanner, age 96 of County Rt. 59, Dexter passed away Monday evening at her home. She had been under the care of her sister and caregivers Dee Wills of Watertown and Judy Sorrell of Dexter.
Dorothy was born September 19, 1911 in Altmar, N.Y. the daughter of Earl E. and Mary O. Obrist Tanner. She attended school in Altmar and Jersey Shore, PA and graduated from Watertown High School in 1930 and in 1933 graduated from Oswego Normal college. She moved to Rochester and then Albany in 1934.
Dorothy was a kindergarten teacher at School 19 in Albany and retired after 32 years. She moved with her sister to Pillar Point in 1974.
She was Teacher of the Year, was President of Childhood Education in Albany and a member of Business and Professional Women, belonged to a sorority, was a piano accompanist for a Quartet, was a member of Order of Eastern Star in Albany, belonged to a women's group on Pillar Point, National Needlepoint Guild, Retired Teachers Assoc., and enjoyed woodworking and making cabinets for her home and hooked rugs.
She is survived by her sister G. Irene Tanner of Dexter and several cousins.
A funeral service will be held Friday 12:00 at the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Gail Parsons, pastor of 1st Presbyterian Church of Dexter officiating. Burial will be in Fraternal Memories Gardens in Albany at a later date.
