- Newspaper Obituary - April 4, 1995 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - JOHN A. SURPRISE, PULASKI, DIES AT AGE 70 - John A. Surprise, 70, of 7519 Maple Ave., died Sunday at Oswego Hospital. The funeral will be at a later date at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Oconto, Wis. Burial will be in Oconto Catholic Cemetery. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Summerville Funeral Home, Sandy Creek. Surviving are two daughters, Cindy Caufield, Sandy Creek, and Tina Marie Surprise, Syracuse; two sons, Michael, Pulaski, and Gary, Syracuse; a granddaughter; a sister, Lulu Mareks, Oconto; three brothers, Cordy and Clement, both of Oconto, and Francis, Almira, Wash., and several nieces and nephews. Born March 21, 1925, in Oconto, a son of Mitchell and Mary Brunck Surprise, he was educated in Wisconsin and served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. He married Mary Therisa Caufield on March 31, 1953, at Sandy Creek. She died Sept. 19, 1977. Mr. Surprise was formerly employed by the town of Sandy Creek Highway Department and lived at Richland and Sandy Creek before moving to Pulaski 18 years ago. He was a member of NE-OS-CO Horseshoe Club.
