- Newspaper Obituary - November 19, 1997 Watertown Daily Times - Watertown, New York - JOANNE VANRY RETIRED SECRETARY - JoAnne VanRy, 46, of 5852 Route 11, died Sunday evening at the home of her fiance, Rodney Dewey, 135 Lock St., Phoenix. She had been ill with cancer and had been under the care of Oswego County Hospice. Mrs. Wilder was a secretary with North Country Dairy, Pierrepont Manor, for 15 years, retiring in 1995 because of her illness. She had lived in Sandy Creek most of her life. Born June 25, 1951, in Watertown, daughter of Lewis and Margaret Caufield Wilder, she was a 1969 graduate of Sandy Creek Central School and a 1990 graduate of Jefferson Community College, Watertown. She married John P. VanRy Sept. 6, 1969. He died July 4, 1981. Mrs. VanRy was a volunteer at the Friendship Shop. Surviving besides her fiance are two sons, Jeffrey, serving with the Air Force at Shepard Air Force Base, Texas, and Christopher, serving with the Army in South Korea; her mother and stepfather, Margaret and Robert Dence, Sandy Creek; two brothers, Ronald Wilder, Syracuse, and Randy Wilder, Sandy Creek, and aunts, uncles and cousins. A brother, Timothy M. Wilder, died in childhood. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Summerville Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Bell, pastor of Sandy Creek United Methodist, officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born in Watertown and graduated from Sandy Creek High school in 1969. She was a graduate of Jefferson Community College. She was a secretary with North Country Dairy in Pierrepont Manor. She retired in 1995 because of illness. She was a volunteer at the Friendship Shop in Sandy Creek. Her husband John died in 1981. Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey stationed in Shepard Air Force Base, Texas and Christopher in the army in South Korea, her mother and step father, Margaret and Robert Dence of Sandy Creek, her fiance Rodney Dewey of Phoenix, two brothers Robert Wilder of Syracuse and Randy Wilder of Sandy Creek. Services were Thursday Nov. 20 at Summerville Funeral Home, the Rev. Roger Bell officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sandy Creek.
